I love the way that this woman gets right to the point. I came here to specifically learn something and she did an excellent job of educating me. No silly music or camera tricks or trying to entertain; just the facts!

Thanks. I'm going to try this. I always find so many on my pool cover. Last summer I flipped my cover to the side and an earwig went down my shirt. I screamed so loud! Lol

I made an earwig trap using a shallow container. I added 1/2 inch of canola oil and left it for a couple of days. The trap worked really well. Then raccoons ate the earwigs and licked the bowl clean.

After burying the plastic can in the garden, place a large rock or brick on top of it to help secure it from being removed by larger animals.

These earwigs have been eating my plants in my raised beds. I see that it works but my dogs and something else like maybe a possum get into the traps and spill them all over.. Now I'm trying Neem nut I know your idea works. Thanks.
@healingchannel112 жыл бұрын
It shouldn't be spilled if you bury the container as she did and make sure the lid is on securely. Maybe bury it further down and forgo making holes in the sides?
@rickmandigo66734 жыл бұрын
Poke the holes in the sides so that rain and sprinkler water does not come flooding into the trap and ruin it.

Placing your plants on a glass table will also help, since the earwigs have trouble crawling on glass.

i put out little bowls of oil and soy sauce. i have gotten literally thousands of them this summer and my plants are doing well. thanks so much for the tip. it's just kind of gross having to get them out of the bowls. i use a fly swatter head to do that.. yuck. but it's worth it.

Would it be better to not have holes in the lid so watering or rain doesn’t get in.?
@jasonberezny97053 жыл бұрын
I understand you should change it every couple days anyway. Change it after a rainfall I guess🤷♂️ I’m trying it out tomorrow. We got them bad.

They have some benefits like any other insect does, unless they become an infestation. That's what she's addressing.
@KlatuBaradaNicktoe11 жыл бұрын
No need to buy traps. Pieces of damp newspaper on the ground of your garden, rolled up or folded, will also attract earwigs. Just throw them away every few days and drop new ones. Also, I doubt a yogurt lid would be much of an obstacle for any raccoon. Nice video though.

You do all realise Earwigs are beneficial insects which consume large numbers of pest species, e.g. aphids etc?
@x_millerboi_x75432 жыл бұрын
And there’s too many of them, plenty of other nonpest species do the same

I made 3 of the traps for indoors where I had an infestation Oil and tuna juice.. Earwigs ran all around them. I would check at night and the earwigs would be out and walking around. Not one went in. Not one ever went in the traps. ????
@GorgeousRoddyChrome8 жыл бұрын
Darla Elliott Yes it had a lid. I used a translucent container. Regarding the outside, they wouldn't go it the traps there either. My garden area is overrun with them. If I set a damp cloth on a lawn chair and check it around midnight there will be a half dozen of them on the cloth. So, I just made a new trap a couple days ago with oil and soy sauce and placed it outside under the lawn chair. The next morning there were 2 in there. I expected far more. I can't figure this out. Maybe the clan of earwigs in my yard and house don't like oil? Or they can't smell? Or they have evolved and can recognize traps? :O I kill a few every couple of days on a wall or clean counter in my bathroom or kitchen. Traps stay empty. One even crawled into a screw hole underneath my WaterPik on my bathroom counter and laid eggs. What???

They are an omnivore. In high numbers they can strip plants over night. Had it happen to a second year cherry tree this year.
