I went to Italy with my sister years ago for 2 weeks, she packed 3 pairs of knickers, three dresses (one on, one in the wash, one drying), some makeup and toiletries and 2 pairs of light shoes. She put it alll in a small zip up bag and that was it. Mind you, it was prior to mobile phones and digi cameras and so on, in the 90's.

I have memories of dragging my overweight rolling luggage over the cobblestones and stairs in Rome in the late 90s, I wish I would have traveled like your sister back then. 😂

Great video! Tip #1 (you can buy some things at your destination) is the one that set me free from worrying about packing for every possible problem. Yes, I can confirm they sell toothpaste in the Netherlands and flu medication in Paris. Tip #10 (packing retrospective) is one I've started using after every vacation, though I extend it to my schedule and logistics as well. The older I get, the more I want to build in relaxation time instead of cramming my schedule full. Plus I want to make sure that my travel logistics work for me instead of against me.

Just this last week while at the Seattle airport my Delta app stopped working. I have no idea why, but I was happy I still had my boarding pass printed out and with me. No hassle, and no standing in line trying to get another one when I was at the gate. It was well worth the weight of a piece of paper. I had to laugh as my niece had just texted me and told me no one prints boarding passes anymore. Technology is great except for when it is not. Oh, and as far as not having meds with you and buying them on your trip, when you are laying on the bathroom floor sick from both ends, the idea of going out shopping somewhere for a med that might work is not feasible. Hard lesson I have learned multiple times. I always carry a small med bag that will cover me for most situations.

Good point! Maybe I should have mentioned that in the video, but I am too paranoid to rely on one app. I usually save the boarding passes in my wallet or take a screenshot and save it with my photos or save it in my emails or in my travel planning documents (and those things I can access from anywhere). And regarding the meds, that sounds like an awful experience! But as I mentioned in the video, I usually bring enough to survive a day or until I can get into a farmacy (when I am in the middle of nowhere) and then restock at the next opportunity. And actually, diarrhea pills I always bring a lot, because I have allergies and intolerances and food while traveling often doesn’t go to well with me. 😂

@@MaggiFuchs Mine is usually for that same reason. I found the best med to deal with that from an Italian pharmacy. Worked great and when I got home to the U.S. I bought more of them. Then found out lately, that it cant be sold here so a friend was in Austria and I asked them to get me some. They brought home 6 boxes for me. LOL. Now I have my stash. Hope your husband is still on the mend.

Mom & I are meeting up in August for a trip, and I am taking carryon only! We are both trying to travel light. (I bought a Kånken 13" laptop backpack as it fits under the seat on RyanAir & most airlines, and will use the duffel as my carryon. I am going to try to take a packable duffle for things we buy as we plan to go to some thrift stores and I want to look at cloth for sewing, but I need to go back and look at some of your old videos on staying connected. That is the thing I am trying to get a grasp on. After last summer when the plan our provider had did not work at all in the US, we had to borrow my mother's phone for wifi/local calls as I could not find a sim to fit our old and obviously non standard phones! & I am more concerned re data safety too now. Sooo.... I am going to be upgrading to an iPhone (like Kleenex, can be found everywhere so should be able to find a SIM if needed), I bought an SSD, I learned a little about eSIMs but not how they really work, and a little about the Skype/Phone account and getting local numbers.... I tried Nordnet, but it really slowed us down, and we could not stream videos from our regular in country services, so strange! So, it is the staying in touch and data piece that has me scratching my head right now. I find myself thankful for KZbin! And it seems so strange that once upon a time I travelled to Europe with a paper ticket, paper money, no phone and a paper map, no hotel reservations, just went!! How did that even WORK?! But I did and it was fun... oh and I had a big backpack, my friend said 60 liters would do 😂😂 Wow... the Olden Days for sure.

Great video Maggi. We did our first carryon only trip in March and it was not as difficult as I thought it would be but we flew U.S. domestic and weight is not an issue. When we travel to Europe, I’m less confident. I’m happy to hear your husband is doing better every day. You both continue to be in my thoughts.

I love your travel ideas! I am incorporating more of them into my packing practices. Sadly, I can't see me becoming a minimalist, but I have reduced the amount of items I carry as well as less bulk. Thank you for the guidelines. I'll do my best using them! Keep smiling!

What brand are your normal looking athletic shorts?
@MaggiFuchs
@MaggiFuchs Жыл бұрын
I always go for hiking shorts. I have them since a few years so I don’t know the exact models of all of them, but one I have for example is the Arcterxy Creston Shorts (4.5). If you google them, you can still find pictures. They look like normal shorts with pockets, but they are out of quickdrying materials. I usually check the hiking brands (Arcteryx, Patagonia, Salewa, etc) at the beginning of the season to see if they have any normal looking shorts in decent colors, because they usually sell out fast.

Zip off pants😅👖🪄🩳 the “legs” don’t take up as much space as pants and are quick to put on in the evening when mozzies start to come out or any other occasion when you don’t want to change in a public toilet🦟🕌🍴🌦️so great when we traveled from Denmark in winter and came to Dubai🥵😅 Hope to see the both of you travelling soon🛫🩷🩵

I totally agree, this sounds very useful. I am trying to find comfortable zip off pants since years, but I have “strong” legs and so far, I found the zippers on the leg rather uncomfortable… 🤗
