I am a family doctor in the UK and see acne patients all the time, and our guidelines are similar to these. We have also added azelaic acid into our guidelines for people who are trying to conceive/ pregnancy. My brother found Epiduo effective. We use oral lymecycline rather than the two tetracyclines you mentioned, as i think it is safer than minocycline.

What di you think about Dutasteride as an acne treatment? It works the same way as topical anti androgens like clascoterone but only by stopping Dihydrotestosterone There’s only a single study on it so far, but i tried it and it shutdown most of my acne.

@@maalikserebryakov We actually do not use that in the UK, also Spironolactone is another we don't use as both are unlicensed here for acne.

@@lavayuki I’m in the UK, my 13 year old daughter has acne that strangely can be fairly well controlled on her face with Epiduo, BUT her body acne is a different story. It effects her chest, back and upper arms. Given that it’s nice summery weather in England right now (for once!), it’s heartbreaking to see her upset and covering up in t-shirts, not wanting anyone to see her skin, so no vest tops like other girls and when we go on holiday she wants to wear a t-shirt over her swimwear. We’ve tried every topical available on her body, erythromycin and lymecycline antibiotics, which helped a tiny bit but not much. So we paid to see a private dermatologist but she said things like Spironolactone and the contraceptive pill weren’t a good idea where she’s only 13 and still going through puberty, told us to wait til she’s 15, so 2 more years of something that’s effecting her mental health! Then she mentioned roaccutane but she’s too young for that as well, said that it would be best to ask our GP to refer her to the NHS dermatology clinic now because of the waiting times. Apparently you now need 2 Drs to assess and sign off roaccutane treatment and she said it would be easier via the NHS route. I don’t understand why there’s nothing available for severe body acne in younger teens? Can you shed any light on this?
@lavayuki
@lavayuki 3 ай бұрын
@@Bea_Rosy I never heard of the two doctors assessing, as far as I know thati s not true. The requirements for referral are having severe acne and having tried at least two different oral antibiotics. Girls will also need to be on two different types of contraception and one must be hormonal like the coil/pill/implant etc... the other can be condoms. Also you need regular blood tests and counseled on the side effects, as there are a few mental health ones as well. This initial thing can be done in advance by the GP who then refers. You only need one GP to do it. The GP cannot prescribe roaccutane, but they can refer to a derm to do it. Bloods would need to be done in advance by the GP ideally, and then derm usually do regular bloods whilst on it. Body acne is difficult to treat and I think it definitely needs a derm review if antibiotics and topicals are not working

I have had acne for 30 years. I have tried every single thing listed on that video. The only thing that solves the problem long term is dietary changes. Cut out simple carbs, sugar, processed foods and dairy

My dermatologist told me around 3-5 minutes. I smooth the PanOxyl cleanser over my skin at the beginning of my shower then continue with washing my body. I keep my face away from the spray. After a few minutes, I rinse it off.

An honest comment from a very long acne sufferer: no external treatment will help your acne visibly (unless it's really light). Don't waste your money and hope. Go for isotretinoin or birth pill. One more note: topical retinoids are so harsh and not that effective. I only use topical treatment (antibiotics and retinoids)for an already developed "pimples" so they go away quicker but I haven't noticed any preventive effects. PD I really don't think isotretinoin is a controversial issue. It works wonders but fear mongering is just horrible.

Sometimes you have to just try it to know. Always do a skin test. Salicylic acid (SA) is supposedly gentler than benzoyl peroxide (BP) but my skin doesn’t seem to tolerate SA well. BP is more effective for me and my skin tolerates it better. However, I can’t use it everyday compared to my teen years. I’m nearing 40 and my skin is now more sensitive and eczema prone. It causes dry skin and irritation if I use it for a few consecutive days. My main issue with BP is the bleaching effect. It lightens my hairline, towels, bedding, shirts etc.

I’m 42 and continue to get whiteheads and pustules. I use PanOxyl 1-2 times per week. I alternate between it, Differin salicylic acid cleanser, and Prequel’s Glycerin cleanser.

I want more products and videos on alternatives for treating/preventing acne. There should be more research on natural alternatives such as aloe vera, centella, mugwort, green tea, propolis/manuka honey, turmeric, neem, tamanu oil, cucumber, etc. I don’t always want to use benzoyl peroxide (BP) although it’s the most effective for me so far. BP can be harsh, drying, and it bleaches my hair, bedding, shirts, towels, etc. I don’t like Salicylic acid because it causes too much purging, itching and redness. Most acids or retinoids are irritating for my eczema prone skin. I’m unsure how I feel about sulfur. I think the smell turns me off. Unsure how I feel about clay either. Felt drying and made my skin irritated but might be wrong brand. Thank you for this video. It is organized and informative.
