Good video, I learned some stuff. I am from the US, and my kit came with chest seals, feel more comfortable with them now. Yes, this pandemic has stopped many training classes.

Thank you for your excellent First aid session on life saving chest compression training. Very audible, coherent, and professional, useful demonstration using the nightingale kit to seal the chest/air vent for multiple wound/s technique. Have a blessed day and week

Thanks for this video - I really like how you've explained everything and it does make sense to me. Can I please just ask a quick question though? I've got a few different first aid manuals and have watched various videos (total first aid geek I know!). When it comes to basic first aid they often say not to use the three-sided dressings anymore, but instead to leave the wound OPEN and ask the casualty to lean TOWARDS the side of injury to help take pressure off the heart and the good lung - i.e. the trapped air has to work harder against gravity. This is obviously completely different to what you've just mentioned. By any chance do you have a link to the study you mentioned and know what should be the current practice taught on first aid courses (FAW)? I'm also a first aid instructor (so I hope you don't mind me asking). I just want to make sure that we're all on the same page and teaching the correct protocols. Thanks in advance. :-)

If you have applied a vented chest seal then is it necessary to burp the wound? Won’t the chest seal allow the air to escape? If they’re breathing is distressed should we remove the vented chest seal and then reapply it?

Hi, soory we missed your comment. The vents should allow air to escape, but if these became blocked, for example by blood, they may not work so well. Most chest seals are that sticky that you could if needed peel them to reveal the wound and then restick, but hopefully the vents will do their job and this won't be needed.

If you were to apply pressure to the wound or use a non vented dressing and it had punctured the lung would it suffocate them? Or is it just better to hold pressure down anyway
@lazarustrainingltd88503 жыл бұрын
Hi, remembering that this is basic first aid advice, we would say "seal the chest and treat the consequences". So seal the wound, but monitor the casualty, and if their breathing is becoming more distressed check you haven't missed any others wounds- and if you haven't temporarily remove the seal/cover from the hole and then replace it. This is sometimes called "burping" the wound. Sorry for delay in replying- an overseas trip distracted us!
