As a casino dealer myself, I'll make this short and sweet. Understand you more than likely will lose. Do not play what you cannot afford to lose. Learn to walk away. Just have fun. And don't forget to tip your dealer :)

Daniel Williams employers depend on low wages so the can hire more staff. If they were to give more money at the start and allow them to still accept tips there would be less workers which would lead to less people employed. Also remember it is illegal for an employer to pay you less then minimum wage if they do not receive at least minimum wage with the tips the employer legally has to pay whatever they did not make. “Living wage” is also a vague term that can’t be legally defined getting rid of the system we have now will kill family owned businesses and start up companies leaving everything to big corporations who can afford higher wages.

Always remember to let them blame the dealer when they lose as long as they blame the dealer when they win! That mentality is the cultural dynamic that leads players to tip. Also it should be noted that some of these dealers have unfortunately been trained that they are supposed to shut up and deal too much. If a player threatens that they know where you live or anything else along those lines, please call the floor. For everyone's sake, please don't let that go.

I'm a tables dealer at a casino in northern Ontario and we have a zero tolerance policy for abuse towards dealers or players. Players can complain all they want when they lose, including cursing and swearing, but they are NOT to direct any personal comments to the dealer themselves. And that is strictly enforced. Dealers are just people working an hourly wage to pay their living expenses and have a legal right to not be subjected to abuse of any kind. Period.

I always was nice to dealers , I liked to play really late at night or early in the morning 4 am is my golden hour. Dealers are tired and bored , they make mistakes sometimes flashing cards , I think if a dealer makes a mistake, they should call pit boss over , but at 4 am they are sometimes dealing with other things , so dealer always lets the bet ride again. the few mistakes could add up to $50 to $100 , my goal was $150 to $300 , and free breakfast , love steak and eggs. Here’s my philosophy on tipping. I look up the states where people are paid below the minimum wage because it’s assumed that their tips will cover the rest (I think there’s like three left in the entire country). Then and only then will I tip a reasonable amount, and the cap is like $50, depending on the situation. So, for example, if I bought a bottle of wine at a restaurant in one of those states and the bill came out to over $1000, all due respect but I’m not giving more than $50 just because of my bottle of wine. Not my job nor is it an obligation on my part, the tip has to be earned with genuinely good service. But that’s just for waiters. Bartenders, valets, dealers (I suppose, although I don’t gamble), etc. Sorry, but it’s crazy to think they deserve more than a few dollars.

I was playing blackjack in Vegas. It’s an easy game but I was nervous since I’ve never played in a casino before. My dealer was really helpful and when I hit 21, she took a tip from my winnings without asking. She just said “I’m gonna take this.” I think it was a $1 chip but I’m not sure. After another hand, I left the table. Then pit manager who saw everything went over to the dealer and I think she got in trouble for it. I felt bad that the dealers are under such strict rules. But I guess she shouldn’t have just taken a tip like that. I don’t know how to feel about it really.

I'm a dealer and we would get fired asap for that. We can't even hint at getting tips. But if a dealer helps you win bevause you don't know what your doing tipping is a mind gesture.

Tips ARE NOT given for service. Tips ARE given for good service. YES... If your dealer is serving you well you should tip even if you lose. A little over what one would normally give is good policy after a winning session for a good dealer providing you with good service. Someone's position doesn't earn them a tip. the quality of the service they provide does. I've got NO ISSUE stiffing a putz.

Period.

People who have worked for tips are the best tippers. A stiff (somebody who doesn't tip) is a stiff. If you don't tip, you're a stiff. Don't think your friends won't notice that you're cheap. They do. That's a reputation you'll have to live with. Don't be a stiff.
