I once was in a bar in Paris with my sister and my cousin and she went out quickly for a smoke while I stayed inside. Obviously she wasn’t going to smoke inside, then I got this text from her saying the bouncer wouldn’t let her back in, I went to the bouncer and started trying to tell him to let her back in, sure I got a little persistent but I was nice throughout it all and was never condensing in any sort of way, I even talked to him before while waiting to go to the bathroom and till that point I thought he was a nice dude, but then after trying to let my sister back inside because obviously I wasn’t going to let her stay outside, this dude suddenly snaps, grabs me by my neck and pins me to the wall and started cursing at me in french! This 6’5 buffy fat black dude had me against a wall. I was just so shocked that he did that and obviously didn’t put up a fight he would’ve shredded me, I just left and went to another bar. This just shows the level of respect they have towards other people, especially towards tourists. Bouncers in Paris are the absolute worst, not only that guy I had another experience with another one, their ego is all the way to the top to the Burj Khalifa. And yes, trust me, I don’t feel entitled as a tourist, but I do expect respect everywhere I go just as I show respect towards others, I had great experiences with bouncers in Madrid, Rome, etc, but Paris is just the absolute worst cesspool of bad and disrespectful bouncers. In conclusion, f!ck bouncers in general

Long story short dude came back with his homies and he barely made it out alive. Cause I call pd the dude look to be in a gang and when I heard say that I kinda had a feeling he wasn't kidding. in the security world that's what they call a "Cooler" honestly one of the best kind of bouncers in my opinion... Less fights.. everyone generally has a better time because there's not this aggressive presence lurking in the corner.. my best friend was my co security and he was the more aggressive type so we ran the place with an approach I handled 99% of the interaction and 1st contact unless a fight physically broke out he just sat at the door and checked IDs.. very rarely with that kind of a combo does the more aggressive bouncer have to come out of his corner.. and while I was a cooler myself I never ran into a situation(unless it was multiple guys I was trying to coral) that I couldn't handle it solo.. Just talking and mutual respect definitely ended most conflict.

Lol. Not really. Bouncers can't have the mentality of American police officers or rent-a-cops. American police are trained to escalate and aggressively assert authority "until people comply". Most bouncers get their start after a club or bar owner runs into them on the street, sees how they hold themselves and interact with hostile people, and offers them a job pending they can qualify for their guard-card. I'm not joking. A bouncers job is to not get pushed around, not allow people to get pushed around, but also to stay fk'n calm and descalate even when people are intoxicated irrational confrontational assholes.

(In Denmark) I was once rejected from a bar after the bouncer asked me for ID. I showed him my drivers licence and my passpork, he told me I had no proof that it was me, I then showed him my student ID, my health insurance certificate and even a credit card that matched my name. He said it was all fake and that I looked like a polish refugee. I responded "so I'm a polish refugee, with a danish name, that speaks danish, lives and studies in Denmark?" Then he pushed me down a flight of stairs where I hit 8-10 other people. He then came down the stairs to put me in an armbar and punch me in the stomach. I was nothing but civil and showed absolutely no aggression. Ive also gone out from a bar to smoke a cigarette, and then not being allowed back inside for no reason what so ever. Wouldnt give me an explanation - and my coat, wallet and phone was inside the bar, which I was not allowed to collect either. So many bouncers are legit powerhungry psychopaths.

If you ever get denied at a bar by a glorified doorman DO NOT ARGUE just walk away. It drives them insane that you don't argue back at them and don't get upset walking away totally takes away the fun of making people as miserable as they are. I've often got denied for absolutely nothing (I'm really a quiet person tbh I barely even speak) in a group as they love picking one person in a group to not let in, if your friends walk in without you they're not your friends and you're better off getting some that'll stick with you. If the bouncers give a bad vibe outside its a warning of bad vibes inside as well. Bouncers are literally the number one reason I drink at home instead of out at bars/clubs I wouldn't disrespect myself giving bars that enable them money!

Flawed logic, dress codes are for various reasons that are completely unrelated to someone puking who has been over served. So many obnoxious patrons forget that it's not a free place to chill, it's a business and typically, reasonably dressed spend more and cause less of a scene. Based on that premise, if you look like you just rolled out of bed wearing the same pjs you've had on the last 4 nights, I won't let you in. Not because of some power Trip or whatever bullshit you wanna think up to throw blame on me, but because you may come in and snag a couple beers and meanwhile that group of nicely dressed people going out to spend plenty of money after work/some event decide to go elsewhere because half the people look like bums. Nobody walks into a venue, sees people decently dressed and decides it's sketchy, let's leave, but people absolutely have walked into venues I've worked and walked back out because everyone was dressed in some mix of uncaring college senior/crack addict/ pants sagging visibly to their knees. Dress code isn't to turn a club into a black tie affair, it's to ensure that you don't get the rep as the shithole bar that no decent person goes to. You get that rep and it becomes reality and before long every customer is either the type to come buy one 3$ beer and nurse it for 4 hours or ready to cause a scene with the first person to bump into them.

Worked a New Years Eve at one of our biggest hotels as a security guard. They posted me as a bouncer in all but name, and it's one of the craziest nights I've ever had. It's literally the first time most of my group ever worked at a hotel so the rules weren't clear to us. Cameras were there to watch us, NOT to watch the customers. That's probably the most pressure I've ever had on the job, and it went well considering we were forced to do unpaid overtime so most of my coworkers weren't happy. From my position I got to see actual bouncers do their work, though. Boy did they have it rough. Lots of hotel clients that I had clearance to allow into the open bar didn't understand why the bouncers wouldn't allow them into the VIP bar. Now c'mon, it's New Years Eve. Lots of high-rollers here. And we still had some BS rules to enforce but that's what we're paid to do. I was allowed to let people in even if they were naked, while the bouncers had to stop people with the wrong kinda shoes. Had nothing to do with us; the moment we allowed even one in, we'd have a suit soon come over and that meant losing our biggest payday of the year. The owners put the rules, we're just hired muscle.

I am a professional bodyguard and security bouncer and that is what our job entails. I do not know why these security guards think they can make their own rules. Safety is ALWAYS the number one priority. You MUST be very patient, alert and friendly to some extent. If you do not have patience, safety is not your concern and you’re making your own rules you should not be in the business period.

as a bouncer myself as a side job all I ever ask of the patrons is "Be respectful and I'll respect you.. and follow the rules and we won't have any issues but by all means have a great time" I've never had an issue with a patron coming up and talking to me and being friendly.. long as they understand that if there's something I have to go take care of that I may have to cut the conversation short and that I'm always going to be scanning the room and not making direct eye contact all the time.. I can multi task so will happily carry on the conversation. If you see me outside of the club? come over and say.

I agree with you 100% what mean about bouncers. I met bouncers at the nightclub entrance that are rude, disrespectful and unprofessional. I'm happy to assist the bouncer by reporting brawls taking place. I hope I get an entry to the club if the manager or yourself don't object to male single entry.

I've worked in clubs as a doorman a few times, more as a KJ, and I totally agree -- just act cool and most bouncers won't give you a hard time. The only time I dealt with d-bag bouncers was at a college watering hole -- they were football guys who liked to brawl and acted like anyone with a drink at 1:59 a.m. was a potential threat to democracy and told them to drain their pints at 2 a.m. or basically get tossed out on your ass. But for the most part I've been treated well. I figure a bouncer is like the bar's guard. If I'm not there to cause trouble, he'll let me drink in peace.

@@stingray4real I've worked the door and I've worked the floor... the management prefers women(because it boosts sales) but as a bouncer I just prefer a crowd with a somewhat chill but fun vibe nomatter what their gender or relationship status is.. lol the more relaxed the atmosphere the less I have to do.. normally I walk around cracking jokes the whole night. I prefer to look at my role in the club as Customer Service(Making sure everyone is having fun) first and Security second.. however obviously if there's a situation brewing that swaps in a heartbeat. But this attitude has helped me calm people down so that fighting didn't happen.. we aren't all out here jerkin off to Roadhouse.. :D

@@emmetrobert4425 well part of that 2am thing is moreso laws.. We do last call at 1:30am so that we can start calmly ending things at 1:45 because if we have people in there drinking after 2am it's a fine.. obviously that depends on the state/county a person lives in how serious that can be.. In Oklahoma(The bible Belt) fines can get pretty stiff and end with loss of liquor license that's why SOME take it super serious.... But... atleast at my club we try not to be a douche about it.. I'll normally just start walkin around and letting people know "hey..just so you know we have to have all customers out of the building in about 10 minutes so if you can finish off your drinks I would really appreciate it.. after you guys leave I still have to stay for about 45 minutes to do cleanup and such so the sooner I start that the sooner I can sleep" 99% of the time that's enough... I give politeness and respect as long as that's what I'm receiving.. now don't get me wrong I've had a Dbag or 2 try to tell me to go f myself and that he know the owner and will have me fired.... I have no issues draggin that guy out by his foot.. had 1 guy 1 night try to sit down in a private reserved booth and talk threateningly to the patrons that had reserved it when they asked him to leave.. Most of the time just me approaching is enough even though I'm not an overwhelmingly big guy.. I walked over calmly.. sat down next to the guy.. asked him to please sit elsewhere after asking the rest of the table if they'd invited him in.. they said no.. he said "I think I will just stay here" without raising my voice I just looked him right in the eyes and told him "You can either sit at any of the open non reserved seats in this club or you can sit outside.. choice is yours" that was enough for him to stand up and find a new spot..

@@Eliath1984 Oh I have no problem finishing a drink before closing, what I hate is when bars serve you right before close then tell you to "drink up!" all while claiming they're against drunk driving. What they should do is make last call at least 20 minutes before close so people can enjoy their last drink and not just gulp it down. I'm glad you end at 1:30, that's seems very reasonable.
