Hang in there. I suffered acne in the 70's when there were no effect treatments. I am going to save up for some sort of in office treatment to hopefully minimize my uneven texture due to scarring.

I completely agree about Microneedling. During the years I have tried almost everything to resolve my acne scars and look younger, anything from face exercises (That's for sagging), vitamin C serum, Fraxel, collagen supplements and of course Retin A (7 years straight). However, nothing made any real difference compared to the high-quality derma pen I purchased for under 100 bucks. Within 3 months of use, my skin has improved DRAMATICALLY. Acne scars from childhood gone by 90% which was the main reason I started doing it however, that's not the only benefit, My fine lines have disappeared completely, and my nasolabial folds are way less prominent. I don't look like I'm in my 20s again, but definitely not 56 either. People often underestimate the power of wounding and the revolutionary effects it can have on the skin.

+1 for kora beauticaIs. I've been doing microneedling since it started 12 or so years ago. Nobody believe I am 55. They all say I am in my 30's or early 40's. As you know, as we get old, our skin gets thinner therefore creating wrinkles. But the wounding kept my skin still thick and youthful. Your comment will help so many women to restore their skin..

Unfortunately the scar got bigger and my skin texture didnt improve. Please be carefull with threatments, and check your mental health before undergoing any kind of treatment. It causes a lot of mental health issues if it doesnt work out and you only have skin. Be carefull💖

I’m noticing that the texture of my forehead seems to be getting a little “rough” … not scars, not acne (but some of them look like they could be popped(kinda a sorta) and am wondering if this could be caused by lack of estrogen. It’s really starting to bug me because I’ve always been blessed with good skin.❤😮❤

best way: moisturise and sunscreen. my holy grail is a lightweight moisturiser ( i use invity microemulsion ) and then i use spf 50 sunscreen! try not to use any harsh acids if it is active. stay away from tret, or retinol or retinoid. focus on healing acne first and then the scarring. it is hard to do both at the same time.

I honestly recommend just going on accutane. I had acne from 10 -29. Accutane was the only thing that worked. I experienced clear skin for basically the first time in my life. I really wish I’d gone on it sooner and not been so afraid of it. I didn’t realize how much of the marking on my skin was permanent until I stopped getting pimples.

I used Accutane when I turned 30 (I’m now 60) and it definitely did clear up the acne for good. My skin, nose, eyes became very dry, red and uncomfortable and there was some nasty purging that left a few mild indented scars but no real texture. These side effects could have been much less had I been given instructions on how to care for my skin while on the medication. Looking back, if I had been given the option, I would have used prescription tretinoin first. I’ve had some professional micro needling which has made some improvement.

I'm in my 40. Took me 30yrs to find out what I'm doing wrong to get acne. Over 10yrs now of no more acne just mini red scars. What I did that works: It all comes down to what you consume. Stay away from bad oil specially hydrogenated oil like vegetable oil; dary products and process food. (Read your food labels of ingredients) Stay hydrate, exercise and eat clean. Check your liver. Clean your colon. Clog colon leads to build up of toxins coming out to the surface. (Look it up) All the products will only help from the outside but the main cause is within. I pray for everyone get theough this stressful battle. Keep fighting and never give up!

What really worked for me was applying a dab of the Skinlyte natural kojic acid soap right after I pop my pimples. When it dries up and heals, there is hardly a mark left. Usually, at my age, those dark spots and scars remain for months. I have allergies and I sometimes get the hives that cause me to scratch constantly until the medicine kicks in. So I rub some of the soap on the places I scratch to prevent hyperpigmentation. I am very impressed by how well it works. I got it from Amazon. Don't get the other brands because they contain synthetic chemicals such as dyes and fragrance. Those will aggravate your condition and may cause irritation that will lead to more inflammation and hyperpigmentation.

I am not an acne girl and never been one when I was a teen BUT I did experience few pimples throughout my 20s (few breakouts) and 1-3 of them turned into a red spot. So I believe you don't need to have had a face full of acne for years to develop few acne marks, just one pimple can become a mark. Also, I am the type who seriously enjoys to pop them so don't do that since it"s majorly because of that it can leave a nice mark 😉

Hi Dr. Idriss I would love for you to do a video on CLOSED COMEDONES. I've watched your videos regarding Fungal Acne vs. Closed Comedones and the one about Blackheads, Whiteheads, and Milia. I've been following your advice for a while and my skin has improved but these damn closed comedones are not budging. I'm using salicylic acid face wash 1x day, AHA x3 a week, BHA x3 a week (I worked up to this), micellar water in the mornings to get the overnight gunk off, and oil-free moisturizer. The closed comedones are around my mouth area so I can't use retinol and I'm going crazy I've been dealing with these for probably 10 years. The rest of the closed comedones on my face disappeared, but the ones around my jaw won't go. I've had my hormones checked by the doctor, and the doctor said my hormones would not be the reason for my acne. I have this all month long and sometimes they combine with each other and form pustules UGH I'm losing hope :( If I count them there are probably 20-30 little comedones all around my mouth, chin, jaw lower half of my face. I want to resolve my acne scars but this needs to get under freaking control first.

I developed a reaction to the benzoyl peroxide prescription, so I stopped using it, but I now have blackheads and cystic acne again. My pores are very large, and I would assume I have oily skin because of the blackheads, but my skin is really dry even with moisturizing. I have tried La Roche Posay effaclar duo and it is not irritating like my prescription when buffered with moisturizer, but it has not been effective on my pimples or blackheads. I have also used Paulas Choice Salicylic Acid exfoliator a few times a week (not with the effaclar duo) and I haven't seen any difference with it. I would love to see a video about skin with acne and blackheads but is dry as well. The best way is to prevent it in the first place - but unfortunately until the internet we didn’t have access to information and had to depend on dermatologists who said things like,”well you won’t get cystic acne when your 80” or “your diet doesn’t matter for your skin”. 😡🤦♀️ I guess I was lucky that I didn’t get pitting but I am 49 and I still have purple spots on my chin from my late twenties. I have been treating it actively for a year now - no results. I finally stopped getting hormonal cystic acne when I found info from gynecologists on the internet that suggest DIM for detoxing bad estrogens. Totally stopped getting cystic acne when I took it daily for about 5 years, now I take it occasionally.

Thank you for another great and informative video. Would be great if you could also make a video about the in-office treatments with the latest technology and what are they good for, how efficient they are, etc. For example Morpheus, CO2, Velashape, etc. There is a lot if misleading info online and I would like to be more educated about this topic. Thank you!

Can you pls tell us about kids and their skincare. At what age do we start kids with sunscreen? And some are very sensitive and have itchy skin. Please do make a video on this.

Dr. Shereen, can you explain the process (steps) for textured scars for those of us who do not live in the US? Most dermatologists ive seen recommend to go directly for CO2 laser

Hi! I am a big fan of yours and fully agree with every view of yours about the today’s cosmetics! That’s why I am starting my own cosmetics company right now. Will be in Connecticut, close to New York next week with my family for a week and I will be really grateful if you have the time just to meet and speak. I am with a car and can come to your clinic. Thank you for your time. Wish you a wonderful week :)

thank you for being so informative💗 I am 18 and have seen you talk about not products from your brand on young skin. can you tell what I should and shouldn’t use for redness and pigmentation? I struggle with severe acne and have been prescribed medications which include topical tretinoin 0.05%

this video is awesome! i have some condition (no idea what it’s called) where scars take ages to fade. like i have dark scars from cuts on my knees and legs i got as a kid to this day (i’m 22). while it has faded over time i’m wondering there are body care products that could speed it up?
