This is incredible. Thank you for taking the time to create the checklist! I’ve dealt with this pain for quite some time. I’m an avid runner and this has held me back. I’m absolutely getting this taken care of. I’ve been icing, foam rolling etc. I’ve moved a lot for work and I feel like I have to start the conversation all over again when I find a new primary care provider. The checklist is precisely what I needed!!! 🎉

I had a Haglunds bone spur removal and Achilles debridement 5 years ago…..best thing I ever did. I’d been in an immense amount of pain for 2 years prior and no amount of anti-inflammatories, physio or steroid injection was going to work. I’m now pain free 99% of the time. The rehabilitation is pretty grim….foot in a cast and non weight bearing for 2 weeks, then a boot for 8 weeks and crutches, no driving for 12 weeks etc….. but 100% worth it if you can get yourself a good orthopaedic surgeon…..luckily I’m in the UK and although a wait, we get the best Drs for free….well we pay our taxes for it lol….I would do it all again if I had to.

Considering this surgery for chronic spur pain. It is effecting my daily life to a point where any walking is painful. How would you say your recovery went in terms of did you feel you got it back to just as strong as before? Im an avid hiker and am worried that it will mean my hiking days are over (daft i know as im struggling anyway now so not much to lose)

Sounds similar to me, had Haglunds for 4 years now. Triage confirmed surgery is only option left as have tried physiotherapy. MRI scan booked for early September. How long did you have to wait afterwards for surgery? Any issues since from surgery?

Hi Dr. - I had the surgery in 1982 - the past 5 years Ive had PT, PRP injections, anti inflammatory, in a walking cast for 3 weeks (didnt help) and recently more PT - the mri shows some micro tears, inflammation, etc. Im now scheduled for a 2nd surgery in Annapolis next month. I cannot live with the stinging pain anymore...so I feel like this is the best scenario at this point...

Your stinging pain-- how would you rate the pain from the scale 1 to 10? 1 the lowest, 10 the highest. I have the bumps since 2013 for playing basketball then heading straight to work. The pain I have is bearable but to me it's better to feel nothing at all. Currently, my right heel/ calf feels strange. In 2021, I talked to a foot doctor but she gave me the impression of a butcher, ready to cut me open, than a doctor. She was like, "oh, we gonna slice than tendon off so we can cut and scrape off that bump." I'm like is there no other way of NOT slicing my tendon??? So yea. I back away. But now, I'm deciding to go back to the same doctor. My right heel feels strange. 😥

Hi great information thank you, I’ve had these on both heels for about 5 years now but they are massive and go around side due to swelling as there so big I’m on lots of pain relief including morphine as I’m in excruciating pain, I can barely walk now;I’ve had X-rays and scans and physio, I’m 59 and doctor won’t do surgery due to my diabetes not being as well controlled as they would like I’ve had different diagnoses off different doctors, I feel as though I’m always going to be in this pain and don’t know where to turn, pain relief doesn’t always help the doctor offered injections but said it will hurt and may not help.

Thet is calcification. Your body need more k2 , d3 and magnesium to lead calcium to the bones. When you are in deficity of those vitamins kalcium ends up in soft tishue where he suppost not to be like kydnes, tendons. So make shure first to have enough of those vitamins. It is not the shoes like evrybody thinks. If you have anxiety your nerveus sistem pulls a lot of vitamins to survive and thet leads do deficity of vitamins for other proceses in body like storing calcium in right places like teeth and bones .

I've suffered from Achilles Tendonitis in my left foot for about 15 years. Well, lucky me....I now also have it in my right foot. So both feet! Extreme pain. Can hardly walk. I just recently found out that these are also called Haglunds. I wish I could explain the pain i'm in. I have tried everything. Walking boot, stretching, icing, heel lifts, open back shoes, Steroids, NSAID's....I don't know what else to do. I have an appointment with a new Podiatrist soon, as my previous Dr. Suddenly passed away. The thing is....I cannot get through a surgery. I am a single Mother to a Son with Down Syndrome, so I have a full plate, FILLED with challenges and that can't include a cast and crutches. It just can't. Has anyone else experienced this? Thoughts? Suggestions? I welcome any and all input. I am so tired of the constant pain.
