Thank you!!!! Finally a solution. The pool shop had me check chemicals, didn't believe the chlorine was ok. Then it was the ph level and then shock after shock. After 2 days it was back. This solved it!! It comes off so easy, just moved your hand in front of it, that I became complacent. Now its solved permanently.

Finally someone on the Tube who I can tell understands things like PH and how it can be manipulated to make chlorine more effective. I've left my PH at 7.1 all season after my cya add, which dropped it slightly. After five weeks with no PH recovery, I added borax and increased PH to 7.3. It was at that point when my little mustard problem got bad enough to show up as cc's on my FAS-DPD test even though I've been keeping fc between 5 (min) and target as high as 9 with cya at 60. I think this slight rise in PH let the mustard get a better hold.

I know some pool stores say to do this. I personally don't do this in the pools we care for. The main reason is that the phosphates don't turn into algae, they are just food for the algae once you have an outbreak. But the Yellow Treat kills the algae anyway.

Is it possible that mustard algae may be harder to remove from vinyl liners than other surfaces? Everything I'm experiencing follows what has been said everywhere I look except that I'm struggling to get it off my liner floor with a standard pool brush. All sources state it comes off easily. I follow the Trouble Free Pool Care system of pool care, which from a chlorine and cya management standpoint, makes much more sense than the "plan to drain" system taught by pool stores, however, the TFP people can sort of get stubborn and not very open to any new chemicals or ideas other than chlorine and SLAM. Mustard outbreak requires a slightly different SLAM procedure. My pool has cya at 60, so TFP says that to shock my pool I need 28 ppm of FC and maintain until three tests pass, but since it's mustard, on the last day, I have to raise my FC to thirty something. I'm worried that, since my algae is not noticeably consuming chlorine, and cc's are only 1 ppm that, I may bleach out my liner using their special SLAM procedures for a mustard outbreak. Anyway, it also worries me putting in this sodium bromine, because I know that chemical companies are notorious for making and marketing products we should never put in pools like copper sulfate, and also, any product with the word bromine in it worries me, as I'd like my chlorine to be effective in the future so I don't know which way to go.
@truelightpoolsllc4441
@truelightpoolsllc4441 4 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure why bromine would worry you and why you would be concerned about putting it into your pool. The Yellow Treat product is the algicide we use on the pools we care for if we have an outbreak of yellow algae. When cleaning residential pools we can't make multiple trips and raise the chlorine up to a 30 for a slam method, the customer wants to keep using their pool. So we shock the pool and use the sodium bromide solution for great results in getting rid of the yellow algae.

Thank you for the video. I currently have this problem with my pool. 13’x30’ 4’ shallow end and 9’ deep end. I’m assuming around 30000 gallons. I have superchlorinated my pool several times and resorted to adding yellow algaecide. Removed some of the top algae after scrubbing. Have cleaned filter as well. The algae seems to have died off, but I have horrible stains on the plaster itself around the shady areas. Could this be the phosphates still left behind?
@truelightpoolsllc4441
@truelightpoolsllc4441 5 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the question. You say that you removed some of the top algae after scrubbing. If you have to scrub it and it only removed the top layer I would think you still have some green algae on the walls. You want to sustain the free chlorine level at a 5 for about 3-4 days, with the pH balanced to about 7.2. Check and treat in the morning and check and treat again in the evening. The chlorine has to have time to kill stuff that is stuck on the walls and in suspension. I recommend brushing every day during this process and keep the filter running 24/7. This is my best guess of what's going on with the limited information I have and not seeing it myself.

If you have a ton of yellow algae in the pool, you can switch to recirculate on a DE filter to circulate the chemicals and kill the algae. Once it's all dead, switch back to filter mode to clean out the dead algae out of the pool. If you have only a little bit you are treating, then you can just leave on filter mode.

So, the algaecide that I got says chlorine needs to be between 1-3 ppm when adding it. But when you shock, you shoot your chlorine up through the roof, way above 1-3 ppm. You say to add it right away because the algae will come back within a day or two if you don't. So it's fine to actually add it when your chlorine levels are closer to 10+ ppm still? Thanks!

Hi, I was having trouble getting rid of yellow algae and that was why I searched online and found your video. Thanks for the help. I purchased the Yellow treat as you suggested and my yellow algae is gone and my water is crystal clear. However, I have another issue it seems, My test strips now show that the pool has no free or residual chlorine, and also show very low bromine. I thought it was maybe the sunlight and water temp of 90 degrees (Live in Dallas). So I shocked the pool and increased my chlorine tab in the pool floaty however my chlorine and bromine still register off the charts low. This started when I used yellow treat. The pool water looks great however the test strips do no reflect that. Also my total hardness and alkalinity now see high also. Before yellow treat they were in normal range....Could yellow treat cause these readings ? Any ideas?
@truelightpoolsllc4441
@truelightpoolsllc4441 11 ай бұрын
The yellow treat does help it burn through the chlorine at a faster rate. Make sure your stabilizer (CYA) is in range with minimum being about 30-50 or the sun will be burning off the chlorine also. I wouldn't think the YT would affect other readings, but can always balance them after you get chlorine stabilized.

Hello, thanks for the helpful video. I subscribed to your channel and I also just ordered Yellow Treat. My pool is in Dallas Texas. Can you explain what a water clarifier is? or does? Is a clarifier or some algaecide something I should do weekly as a preventive maintenance measure, and add yellow treat if yellow algae appears ? I guess my question is in addition to shock and chlorine tablets (and Yellow Treat) should I be using a water clarifier chemical or a phosphate remover on a weekly basis to round out my pool maintenance? Thanks in advance.
@truelightpoolsllc4441
@truelightpoolsllc4441 11 ай бұрын
A clarifier helps clump particles in the water together so a sand filter or cartridge filter can pull them out more easily. A DE filter does not need any help with a clarifier. So if you have cloudy water a clarifier can help with that. I personally don't do anything to phosphates in pools, but according to some pool stores you should. I just think it's an extra expense that is not needed. The water stays fine with proper balance of chlorine and balancing your pH.

Thank you for this! I was hitting my pool with 15-20ppm chlorine almost weekly to keep the yellow algae away. It was unswimmable as much as it was swimmable, and a severe pain to keep in balance. Once I used the sodium bromide, I was able to keep the yellow algae away for about a month and a half with the first treatment. It just came back this week, so I hit it again, but for the last 5-6 weeks keeping the chemistry in balance has been so much less of a pain. Question: is there a regular schedule for using the sodium bromide I should follow, or should I just use it on an as-needed basis? I have a 25k gallon pool, so I get a little more than 2 treatments out of a bottle. I just want to know if this is something I should plan on keeping in stock on a regular basis. Thanks again!
@truelightpoolsllc4441
@truelightpoolsllc4441 4 жыл бұрын
Glad this was helpful! I would definitely recommend keeping at least 1 bottle on hand at all times so you can treat when needed. We use the Yellow Treat (YT) in the pools we clean professionally on an as-needed basis. We don't treat with it until we see the yellow algae, but as soon as we see it, we shock and use YT. If you want to use a liquid algicide on a weekly basis, that would be fine. A maintenance dose of an liquid algicide that is a Poly- type algicide will work to help inhibit algae growth (look at active ingredient and it starts with Poly). But that's still no guarantee you won't see yellow algae again.

I was referring to granular chlorine shock but liquid shock will do also. You just have to use a lot more liquid shock than you think to get the same results as granular.

Which algaecide besides yellow great can I use
@truelightpoolsllc4441
@truelightpoolsllc4441 3 жыл бұрын
Yellow Treat is great because it's sodium bromide and will kill any type of algae whether it's yellow, green or black algae. You can also use a polyquat algaecide, look for a liquid algaecide that the main ingredient starts with Poly... Get the highest concentration like an Algaecide 60. This will also target algae and can help with preventing growth.

I don't understand the part about added shock that had yellow algae. But anyway, if you have some yellow algae, hit it hard with plenty of shock and yellow treat to knock it out and you should be ok, you shouldn't have to clean the filter again.

So this is partly true however in my experience algaecides are not needed ever! You do have to follow up your powder shock, cal hypo or granular trichlor. You must follow it up with your liquid bleach and you will be good. Haven’t used an algaecide in years. Gimmick I like the yellow treat for clearing up the pool but I’d rather use an oxidizer. I own a pool company so do lots of pools. Consider making your pools an algae-stat pool by using borates in your pool. Try it out, whether you shock with dichlor or trichlor just follow it up with liquid.
@truelightpoolsllc4441
@truelightpoolsllc4441 10 ай бұрын
Good thoughts, but some pool stores recommend similar to what you said as in just add more chlorine. It doesn't work where I'm at in this extreme environment in Texas. The yellow algae just gets worse and won't knock it out. I will look into borates, have heard of people doing that but haven't done it myself.
@sbrave

Do you add this into the skimmer ala "Perfect Pool", or pour it over the algae areas? I've tried both a regular and steel brush, and the algae will not come off my steps or the corners of the shallow end, where it seems to be the worst.
@truelightpoolsllc4441
@truelightpoolsllc4441 2 жыл бұрын
Throw chlorine shock into the pool and then throw Yellow Treat on top of it. Brush the algae off the plaster as much as you can, but it may take a couple of treatments to chemically kill the algae so you don't see it anymore on the plaster.

Yes. But usually yellow algae is so light it will brush off easily while you are standing on the side of the pool. If you have a lot and it's been there a while, even when you brush it not all will disappear. It will only get knocked out when you treat with algicide and shock together.
