I used Furan-2 and E.M erythromycin for pop eye with my betta. I did 100% water changes in QT with IAL extract, and 10 minute Epsom salt baths. I saw improvement within a day, and more so as the week progressed. Also, after a week of treatment I removed the medications and only added IAL extract, and replaced Epsom salt for aquarium salt. I feel like the salt would create an extra protective layer to seal it off and avoid the bacteria from coming back- just my theory though.

I have two 10 gallon tanks with 4 bettas, separated with your dividers. I bought a new snow white betta last week (Used to have 3) and as of yesterday, he and my other little guy (2 years old) now have popeye! They reside in the same tank. They both developed it so quick, it went hardly noticed until I took a second glance. I also noticed the white betta's fins are starting to turn a little grey. Water parameters are 100% fine. I treat the water with prime and add a bit of aquarium salt every water change. I did however put a new ornament in a few days ago. I only submerged it in water for a couple of hours and then waited for it to dry. I did not add any bleach. I ordered some Furan-2 as recommended from a friend. I've never used any epsom salts or erythromycin. This is my first time dealing with a sick betta under these circumstances. I'm starting their treatment tomorrow.. UPDATE: I treated them with Furan-2 for 4 days. My betta's popeye is gone. :)

Thanks so much for sharing your pop eye success! have been treating my boy for pop eye for a while now. I’ve tried several products in Australia but while the pop eye hasn’t got any worse, it hasn’t got any gotten better. He is showing not other sign of sickness except the swelling behind the eye. I gave up for a couple of weeks just focusing on keeping the water clean until I found a website that I can get products from the US shipped to me including kanaplex.

Poor guy. I'm battling some strange disease in my community tank that came with the balloon mollies I added several weeks ago and I'm treating with seachem paraguard. The main symptom they have is flashing, but no other outside obvious signs of any disease. Fish diseases in community tanks are unfortunate 😟

Yes they are. When you have more fish in a tank you have to be more vigilant in checking them and watching their behavior.

I have a blue betta fish with red fins just like your Theo! My little guy jumped out of his tank last week and lay on the floor for some unknown amount of time but not more than a half hour. The pH in the tank turned out to be too high (testing showed the pH of water straight from the tap was abnormally high, so something must have gone amiss with the county water supply...), so I made that adjustment and the water quality has been good since. But a few days after his land expedition my little fishie developed a modest case of popeye. Not bulging nearly as badly as yours, but definitely noticeable. Not sure if it is physical damage from the fall and flopping around, or if from some bacteria he may have picked up from the floor. Or possibly a bit of both. After noticing it, I did a full water change in his tank and have been adding Imagitarium Bacterial Infection Remedy every other day. His eyes are slightly better, but not as much as I had hoped for. Fortunately he can still swim around and eat and gives all indications of being able to see just fine, but I am still worried about long-term consequences if this doesn't get better quickly. He does spend more time than normal resting, but his appetite is actually much better than normal. I've long been worried he doesn't eat enough (funny for a betta fish - they are notorious for over-eating! I also have an orange betta fish who is of the sort who does not know when to stop eating and would happily stuff himself to death if given the chance), but the past few days he has been absolutely voracious, which I take as a good sign. But after today's third and final dose of that bacterial remedy, if things are not showing any further signs of improvement after another two or three days I'll need to figure out something more effective.

If you haven't done it before, I would love to see a video about a betta first aide kit with an explanation on what the different medications and treatments do. That is something I would like to get better at. I work at a petshop but I'm not the fish specialist. I do have and love my bettas. A couple of weeks ago woman brought back a betta she had had less than a month, he was super skinny, had torn fins, what looked like maybe ammonia burns (?), and was completely washed out. I couldn't even tell he was supposed to be a mustard gas looking betta just looking at him. He was gonna be put to sleep, so I took him home to see if I could save him and what I can learn from it. He is now getting color back, scales healing, developing an appetite again, and slowly getting confidence and strength to swim about the tank. But I realize I would be hard pressed if something went wrong tomorrow. I don't feel like I'm knowledgeable enough, or properly equipped to deal with sick betta as well as I would like. I lost one to dropsy a few months ago. I wish I had known what to look for or be aware of before he had pineconed. And not much later one of my fish that seemed perfectly healthy suddenly spazzed, started swimming erratically, and died a few hours later. I don't know what went wrong but I started cleaning fish equipment with salt and the one bacterial medicine I have. Everyone seems ok now, but I want to be better at treating sick fish.

My betta fell out of his tank about equivalent to the Empire State Building if I was his size.. I used a credit card to gently slide under her and put her back in the tank. This morning I noticed he had a pop-eye. I don’t want to stress her out anymore. He is eating the worms and betta bites. The other fish are leaving him alone too ( white cloud minnows and black tetras). Do I need to use the medication or do think it will heal itself as it was mostly caused by stress and maybe the fall but not some bacteria? I does not have as much swelling as your little guy maybe about 1/4 the swelling..

This has been going on over a month. I do have Erythromycin but I am scared to used it. Did this cure your fish? Did it hurt your plants or your cycle? Sheila, I'm so glad you posted this video! I was in Corey's live stream the other night and saw you moderating. I was asking for advice on just this topic. My dumbo halfmoon lives solo in a 78 degree heated, heavily planted, 10 gallon with 35% water changes weekly. He also has popeye with that little pimple on just 1 eye. I put him in quarantine in 10 gallons and did a 4 day treatment with erythromycin followed by a 10 minute epsom salt bath. His eye bulged even more and it kind of had me guessing my treatment since he's my first and only fish (for now). I researched like crazy which led me to the treatments I did. Do you have any advice on what I should try next? Another round erythromycin?? Thanks in advance for your time! I'm a worried fish mama!
