I had a table come in around 4pm the other day, and after about an hour, asked for their check… I was cut at 5, meaning no new tables, but they ended up sitting there until I finally had to clock out at 6 (because 8 hours), and weren’t sure if they planned to order anything else, but still didn’t want to close… I eventually had to transfer them after investing 2 hours with them (so no tip), and because they asked for their check, I wasn’t allowed to pick up any new tabs, which as a Bartender could have easily been 4-5 in that hour…
@susannpatton28935 ай бұрын
Yes indeed. You are not able to flip the table to make your much needed money - yet they sit for 2 hours for the same tip. If any.

I work at a brunch place that tip pools, and is server rotation only, no sections. It's so much nicer. I really don't care if you want to camp out for 2 hours, as long as we're still open. Most of the servers pull their weight with tables, there's one or 2 who don't. The couple that are not great at waiting tables, end up doing most of the shitty side work like vacuuming. Usually works out pretty well.

Had to deal with an awful patio table the other day. 2 older ladies, had cashed out over an hour before close. We close at 2, and they're still there at 245. It was a train wreck day, so there was still stuff to do till like 230. I had already closed down the rest of the patio - pull caddies/salt/pepper, close umbrellas, sweep. At 245, decided to go out and act polite. "Excuse me ladies, let me grab these." *Grabs table stuff* "just to let you know we did close at 2". This lady snapped at me "we know what time you close!" I proceeded to walk inside, clock out, and let my manager deal with it. Apparently his way of dealing was the same as mine. They stayed till 320.

@@VioletRing77 I “inherited” a table of 4-5 older ladies a while back when I came on dinner shift. The mid ended up in another section (as she was obviously going to leave first), and she dropped the check on the table. A half hour goes by, and they still hadn’t closed out, so I politely asked if they were ready to pay, and they said yes. I grabbed their Server, who immediately closed them out. Another 30 or so minutes goes by, and they’re still chatting away… Meanwhile, during all this time, I’m pulling plates, I’ve introduced myself as the one taking over the section, ask multiple times if they need anything else… Over 2 hours later, they finally decide to leave… Meanwhile, I had to be passed over for larger parties because they were taking up a half-booth that could accommodate 10… Another time, a woman comes in, and asks if we could accommodate a party of 15ish people, in about 15 minutes, since everyone was on their way… So, we had to put several tables together, and wait… Meanwhile, the woman said she needed to run to the grocery store across the parking lot “really quick”, and we all assumed it was to pick up a birthday cake or something… Literally over an hour passes, about 3/4 of the group finally shows up, and of course they want to wait for the rest (another 30ish minutes)… So, for over 2.5 hours, on a Saturday night dinner shift, I had no tables… And, of course, they left less than 10%…
