I just got this plant so I’m learning how to care for it. Please make more videos on Nepenthes/pitcher plants. You are the only one that actually shows how to trim it. Thank you so much for showing how to properly trim the pitcher plant!

Hi there, I have a Nepthenes that I’ve had for about 8 years now, repot every few years when necessary but it was getting long and spindly tendrils so I cut it back by half and it’s now doubled in size, similar to what yours has done at the base, it loves a bit of care every few years.

What if the leaf is half green and half dead. Do you just cut half the leaf? And if you do cut it in half. Will the same leaf grow? Or no?

Awesome! I was wondering about cutting off the drying pitchers on my nepenthes but I figured that I shouldn't since they still have digestive juices and bugs in them. I guess I'll leave them be.

Hi! It won't grow back, but you still have the leaf base for photosynthesis. Thanks for watching

If you cut the pitcher off from a leaf that’s color green will the pitcher grow back eventually on that same leaf?
@venusflytrapworld3 жыл бұрын
That would be nice, but the answer is "No". Once the pitcher withers, the leaf won't grow a new one.

I have a very very large Nepenthes pitcher plant. When I first got it, it produced tons and tons of new pitchers but now, it just grow lots of leaves and no new pitchers thus, the old pitchers are also dying. I keep it in half shad half sun. And I give I distilled water. What should I do? I have fed it some big bugs so I think that is the problem. Oh and if the pitcher dries up, do we have to fill it with RO water ?
@venusflytrapworld3 жыл бұрын
I think skipping the feeding for a bit might be a good idea. Also, could it be lacking enough light/ humidity?
@venusflytrapworld3 жыл бұрын
There is no need to fill up the pitchers with water. The plant will produce its own liquid. Here is more info venusflytrapworld.com/should-i-fill-my-pitcher-plant-with-water/

Cutting back the top of the pitcher is really only good for aesthetics, what it does it makes it harder for the pitcher to hold its water. Keeping the top allows it retain humidity inside the pitcher and retain all that water. The pitchers have the ability to fill the pitchers by themselves, pulling in water from the roots and adding enzymes that break down bugs. This dries up faster and doesn't refill much when you cut the top. It needs to be able to retain the humidity and moisture.

Thank you for the info this happened to my pitcher plant recently a new pitcher was forming and all of a sudden I see it drying up turning black Might be due to the summer weather in my area

Do I bring inside during winter ?, am I supposed to cut the plant back so it can go dormant?
@venusflytrapworld2 жыл бұрын
This variety doesn't go dormant
@monke19192 жыл бұрын
Nepenthes don't go dormant and they are indoor plants

So, I'm not a plant guy. I got a pitcher plant, it's pitchers are green and kind of pinkish around the rim. The pitchers are dying, or withering or whatever you want to say. Certain parts of the leafs, and random spots look like they have burn marks. I don't want it to die, and I don't know what to do.
@samanthashoner52452 жыл бұрын
It may be that your plant is either getting too much direct sunlight or not enough water. Try moving it to another spot or watering it more and see if it helps
@rockingredpoppy9119 Жыл бұрын
The pitchers are supposed to age over time, and turn brown. Just cut the pitchers off when they are completely brown. Your plant isn't dying. Water it with distilled water and spritz them in between waterings. Keep the moss moist at all times.

i have a really small pitcher and my main concern is that what should i do if there are too many bugs? do i cut the pitcher off or do i use something to remove the bugs inside? also, do i need to put water in the pitchers sometimes? ty
@AndreasRP.4 ай бұрын
Don't put water in the pitchers and leave the bugs inside. If you think its getting too many bugs, just move the plant to a different location. These plants do not like being touched and if you start removing bugs from the pitchers they may die.
@venusflytrapworld4 ай бұрын

I don’t cut the dying/dead pitchers or leaves at all, because I just let the plant do its own thing, I don’t really intervene with that kind of stuff, my big ventrata has a lot of dead leaves and they are staying, becuase that’s how it is in the wild,
@venusflytrapworld3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for sharing! I agree that trimming is not required. Trying to recreate the conditions in the wild is always a solid approach.

@aididdat17492 жыл бұрын
I think that cutting the dead leaves has more with the plant not getting too much nutrients once the leaves decompose. But yeah, plants in the wild can survive (but how long?)

Why does the leaves dry? And the pitcher get brown like this
@venusflytrapworld3 жыл бұрын
Good question. It really depends. Some dried up leaves are just part of the regular growing process. Other might be due to low humidity levels, or improper conditions. This article has detailed info about dried leaves venusflytrapworld.com/easy-guide-to-prune-nepenthes-trimming-guide/

is the top part of the pitcher going to grow back when cut off or is just going stay short?
@vids595 Жыл бұрын
It will stay short and eventually turn brown and die. It is a normal part of the plants growth pattern.

Can you plant pitcher plants in potting soil?
@vivimannequin2 жыл бұрын
No
@samanthashoner52452 жыл бұрын
Regular potting soil has a lot of nutrients in it that most plants need, but carnivorous plants like pitcher plants naturally grow in soil that is very low in nutrients, so regular potting soil will kill them
