Nice video ! Just one question … why do we need to manually save the settings for Autotune ? In my OSD i always see the “settings saved” message automatically after landing in the flight summary screen. (I have continuous trim aircraft setting on) Do i still need to manually save anything by stick commands ? Thx, Florin

That *is* a great question. Two related advantages come to my mind. First, the trim will be consistent on every flight. This helps make the plane more predictable - it will fly the same today as it did yesterday. A related advantage is that I can check the trim and make sure it's good. That it's trimmed *right*. Once it's good, with the switch off it won't change (and therefore can't get messed up). On the other hand, continuous auto-trim WILL change the trim - and sometimes you want that. If you switch between different sized batteries, the battery is installed in a slightly different position, or you add some accessory the trim needs to change. Continuous auto-trim will automatically take care of that. On a racer, I would want consistent, predictable performance - so I wouldn't want continuous auto-trim. On a experimental plane on which I'm changing things around, I might want continuous auto-trim to keep updating the trim as I change things around.

I'll probably wait for iNav8 before manually tuning PID. I recall you suggested to increase I gains before the maiden. I did and it worked but wondering if you usually reduce it back to the "profile 1 default" values after

Thanks for your great assistance for beginners! I didn't understand well how to use the autotrim, when flying acro, do you have to push or pull the stick to maintain the altitude before to switch autotrim then wait 2 seconds and release the stick? what is the proper sequence? I am also confused with acro mode, as it is not supposed to act on pitch axis to maintain altitude...when I first trim a new model to fly strait on manual mode, then switch to acro mode, then, the model pitch down...what did I miss?

Hi could you provid some help? I did my first inav 5.1 flighrt 2 years ago...I just tryed auto lounch, no auto trim no auto tune done. After using Mr. D. tool to migalrate to version 6.0, I don't know why, i was not hable to do the migration. So I tryed inav 7.0, finaly it worked. But am I missing somthin? Because on message line it shows: unable to arm, disable navigation first. I have all my swichs on neutral position. I can not accese the osd menu using sticks. Ehat have i done wrong? Can you use quad fpv flight controller for fixed wing? I have a f7 aio
@adilsongoliveira7 ай бұрын
Sure. It may be slightly harder to wire but there's no issues with that.
@FPVUniversity7 ай бұрын
Depends on FC. It has to be able to drive motors and servos on available outputs. Not all can
@blueskyfpv7 ай бұрын
Many can, but you need to check to be sure. As long as the motor outputs can be changed to output servo signals it should work. Check to see if there is a target for your board available in INAV or for information on the manufacturer's website.

You say autotune will determine the correct PID's and the rates. I thought PID's are no longer tuned just rates and feedforward?

Let's say it's a simplification as it sets default P and I gains and then determines FF (part of PID process) and rates

I have to say I'm wary about the iNav I term. I keep it at zero and just use P with a touch of D. In other words I go completely against the advice of this video. I fly scale. My planes have wheels and they take off and land on the ground. I sometimes get the impression this is very rare among iNav users. I'm concerned that the I term can get into a "wind-up" problem -- I mean where it attempts to correct for (typically) pitch while the plane is sat on the ground. The elevator control can end up at maximum travel and will take time to return to mid position. In my opinion this could cause a crash the moment the plane leaves the ground. Am I wrong? Always open to advice and ideas!
@skupper6723 ай бұрын
Good question thanks- I am flying scale also with a tail dragger. My approach will be always take off and land in manual than switch to acro in flight. Return to manual for landing. I see no other way because the autotune function really helps with flying characteristics. Thoughts? Whats your setup for a scale maiden with inav?
@stevep41313 ай бұрын
@@skupper672 My setup for a scale maiden is manual with some guessed PID, FF and rate values. I set I terms to zero to avoid wind-up. Then I'll put it into "cruise mode" (angle + auto level) and do a one-off auto-trim (I avoid continuous auto-trimming because sometimes I want to change trim manually for landings etc). Then I'll put it into acro and do an auto-tune. After the maiden I mostly fly in manual but often use acro for takeoffs and landings when the wind is gusting across the runway (exact opposite to you with the modes!). If its particularly gusty I might just stay in acro. (Acro can save a small model near the ground on a gusty day but can also get in the way of aerobatics.) I like and value iNav but finding the right PID, FF values for your model is just trial and error over a long period of different wind conditions.
