💯 Keep it stupid simple. A lot has changed in 35 years and I feel like some of the "New ways" of doing things and setting bows up over complicates it. I want a durable bow without all these fancy drop rest that I would assume need to be timed. I dont care for D-loops since I have a ball-bearing wrist release give me a basic nock point. I dont need a bow built like a tank but some of these sights sit way to fat out and as a treestand hunter all i really need is my antique pendulum sight. LOL I like to keep it super simple. Great video.

I like how much you put into this video and I agree with you that the proper arrow spine can be the answer to “bow tune”. I have found that mock tuning each bare shaft makes the bow shoot much more forgiving. I shoot a 330 spine Easton Hexx with a 175 grain ethic archery insert and a 100 grain FP or BH. Once I have nock tuned each bare shaft to bullet holes at 7-8 yards, I can shoot any broad head with no fliers. Granted I make sure both front and back of each shaft is square.

All four look like quality bows, since I don’t have a press I may lean toward the Elite Kure if I could find one at a shop around here in West Virginia. Dan’s ready for August Archery 🏹 Antelope Adventures. Hopefully I can do the same in a couple years.

Why are your adjustments for broadheads and bare shafts different? The physics is exactly the same.
@EastmansHuntingJournals3 жыл бұрын
Bare shaft tuning it actually tuning your bow. "Broadhead tuning" is getting your broadheads to group with your field tips. It's not actually tuning the arrow to your bow. The rest adjustments for broadhead tuning are so minute that it shouldn't affect your point of impact of your field tips. - Dan

@EastmansHuntingJournals3 жыл бұрын
Yeah from the sounds of it, you should be spined about right but maybe you need longer carbon to weaken it up. Its acting overspined but shouldn't be. Check your grip. I would suggest you try another 400 spine arrow with at 26" of carbon.

Man this was awesome information. I have a question if you do not mind answering? I shoot the V3 27" 70# 28" draw. Im shooting the 350HD Daysix arrows with the 50grain insert with 100 grain broadhead at 28.5". So am I shooting to low of a spine or is this the right setup? I can group decent, but I have the 5 pin slider from black gold and its adjusted all the way to the left. So is my arrow setup the problem? Thanks for your help. I have asked many bow shops and I keep getting told its because the riser is wider than normal bows, to me it doesn't seem right.
@nickblake58243 жыл бұрын
The riser is fairly wide, but the bigger issue is your bow shop “tuning” your bow by moving the rest instead of the top hats. If you look down your arrow shaft, it’s more than likely kicking way outside, which requires you to move your sight way outside to match that as well
@nickblake58243 жыл бұрын
If your sight is pushed far to the left, that indicates you were getting a tail right tear through paper so the rest was moved away from the riser or outside. The appropriate thing to do would be put the smaller top hats on the right side instead of the left and bring the bow back into center shot.
@EastmansHuntingJournals3 жыл бұрын
From the way you are describing it your arrows are too stiff for your setup. But reading your specs, I wouldn't think they would be. My guess would be its your grip..which is fine as long as it is consistent. Mark from Mathews said the bows are made so about 80% of people don't need top hats. He also said the V3 likes weaker spined arrows. So, need a weaker arrow or like Nick said, needs smaller top hats. The whole "riser is wider than normal bows" is silly. That's not right.

If your arrows are too weak why didn't you crank the bow down a bit to about 65 lbs? Could help also.
@EastmansHuntingJournals3 жыл бұрын
Yes that would help but modern compound bows tune the best and are most efficient with limb pockets seated into the riser. I would consider cranking down the bow as a last resort.
@v.n.68863 жыл бұрын
@@EastmansHuntingJournals That's right, but 5 lbs are about 2 turns on a modern bow. Not much above seated in and be most efficient and if it helps it's worth the little loss in efficiency.

So you keep stating that having a 50gr insert and a 100gr tip is "A Lot of Weight" for a 350 spine. That is what every bow shop is going to install on almost any arrow unless you specify otherwise. What else is there to use? Should you just stiffen the spine to say 400 and run the set up with 50gr/100gr? I enjoy the videos and will continue to watch. Also, this year is the first year I have really seen everyone bare shaft tuning. Is this new to the industry or have I just been under a rock?
@EastmansHuntingJournals2 жыл бұрын
When I say "a lot of weight", this is compared to what was the norm 10 years ago. 150 grains up front is substantial and the more weight you have up front the stiffer arrow you need. So that means a 300 spine for me with 150 gr up front. I would probably shoot a 350 spine if I had 115 total up front. Bare shaft tuning has always been around but folks are seeing how much more important it is to finish tuning your bow. -Dan

Not sure I agree with “tuning the arrow to your bow.” Sounds backwards to me. However, bare shaft tuning the way to do it. Most people don’t and wonder why they can’t find a broad head that flies well.
@teddibiase53323 жыл бұрын
Tuning your arrows is the correct way to do it. Do you bend your gun to the ammo you like or do you find ammo your gun likes?
@Erick-ie8ll3 жыл бұрын
@@teddibiase5332 guns and bows are completely different so you can’t use that analogy. When a bow is drawn and fired by a person, that individual inputs his or her own pressure on different contact points on the bow. That affects the power stroke of the string which can affect arrow flight. A rifle has a rigid barrel that is only fired by squeezing a trigger. The shooter has little to do with how the bullet travels out of the gun. The shooter of a rifle only has to worry about aiming for point of impact. 2 people can shoot the same bow with the same arrow completely different. A rifle can shoot a bullet out of a barrel the same way if fired by different people. In this video the archer kept getting nock left bare shafts and blamed it on a weak spine. Compound bows are shot with a mechanical release aid and have center cut risers that use rests. Weak/stiff spine won’t show as left to right errors. That’s a power stroke alignment issue that is corrected by adjusting the bow. Whether it be through yokes, shims, cable guard, rest, etc. just make sure you pick an arrow that is stiff enough and well built. Tuning a bow is not complicated. What makes it complicated is when the wrong information spreads and people get frustrated when they apply it.
