Kellin is the best human. Did a feature on one of my tracks and went above and beyond helping promote it. Such a gem. Always looking out for the smaller artists 🤘🏻

Not fair, Kellin Quinn has an advantage over me in that he's actually a talented vocalist all joking aside, I really appreciate this video cause I've been trying to use melodyne more and yes, it does have a steep learning curve. I'd love to see more content from y'all on how you use melodyne, even creatively. I'd like to learn more about how you get that auto-tune-y effect you mentioned in the beginning. Awesome work as always, Miami! Also, I'm gonna cry cause you didn't auto-tell me to hit that bell and melo-like button and subscribe so I can tune in for future videos;-; I know the transition game is still legendary, though, so I'll let it slide

Auto tune’s new algorithm is much more transparent (on by default, have to select that “classic” button to get the old less transparent sound). I would just use the graph mode which is exactly like melodyne. You can auto import the corrected notes like melodyne and then fix what sounds off manually. Saves a ton of time so you don’t have to correct the whole thing by hand. Im more comfortable with it so prefer it over melodyne as I think the learning curve is lower as you said. Though I’ve done the melodyne/auto tune combo in the past.

Great video, and happy as a Cubase user that I have Variaudio for free that is fully integrated into the DAW and has the power of Melodyne. Cubase also has an audio alignment too for lining up backing vocals too

I can never get the audio alignment to sound right to help with doubles and backup. Vocalign works well for me 95% of the time. There are still times where I do have to fix stuff manually.

@@joeymusicthis could be great, I’ve noticed melodyne doesn’t seem to like it when I perform pitch screams or sing a pretty distorted vocal part. Which leads to (sometimes hours) of cutting things and moving them in it.

Seems like all of this could have been a lot easier just by being a little pickier in melodyne? Snapping note by note and making cuts and manually setting some of those notes would have been way simpler. Kellins dry vocal was definitely a perfect candidate for a transparent clean melodyne fix for everything. The automation and autotune pro were not necessary here imo, but definitely interesting to see another approach.

You could do it that way, but you lose some of the sheen of Autotune by only using melodyne -Miami

The real problem I'm having is that the vocals doesn't sound consistent at all They don't sound 'glued' no matter how many compressors I use - they still sound 'live' Someone suggested Vocal Rider but that didn't help too

As someone who is not very experienced with tuning vocals, how do you know what note a part of the vocal is supposed to hit? Like, how do you know when a vocal is out of tune? That’s the part I’ve been struggling with as a beginner to music production.

There are ways u can train ur ear for pitch, but I honestly recommend learning how to sing, just with a couple lessons to learn the feel of matching pitch, and then work more on just ear training for pitch
@joeymusic
@joeymusic Жыл бұрын
It’s difficult because there are times when two notes are next to each other and can both be acceptable. It will then depend on notes from the singer. It helps to be in the room during tracking for this kind of thing to know what they were going for -Miami

It's something that takes a lot of practice doing. Understanding scales, such as major or minor, can help. Once you know what key the song is in, it can fall into place as you edit or listen to the song. Even trying to sign the song to yourself can make it a bit easier to edit to know where you want the notes to land that either autotune is not catching or the dry vocals itself is not hitting.

Just ear mainly man. You can hear the pitch either go down or up. The first bit really stood out to me... when I hear people singing and they go out of pitch I can hear it and it urks me or when I play the wrong note it just sounds bad... its hard to explain haha. I think because I have been listening to music before i even came out of my mums womb I can hear it? I dunno

Man, I am totally in favour of using Melodyne/auto-tune this way. You can see the guy clearly practised and has overall a good tone and pitch, but focusing on performance with a tiny bit of pitch correction afterwards can really save up money instead of hours in the studio to get that one perfect take. If pop artists (who actually make the big bucks) use pitch correction, why should we poor metal heads be so purist...
