Hi Mike, I finally got to watch all four of your chess piece turnings. I always enjoy seeing the process you each use. I have to tell you though that your process fits my style better than the others do. I really appreciate the in-depth historical information as well as the detail techniques you describe. I used to teach and have used the “informative” instructional technique in business. That’s probably why I appreciate yours so much. It could be though that I’m just hard headed and require multiple exposures to the information. Keep up the good work. Don’t telll the guys that you’re my favorite. 😊 Thanks. Tony

Mike, so nicely done. Your pieces are the only ones that are close to a classic chess set. Thank you so much for being part of this 4Ways group. I always learn so much from each of you. Thank you!

Very nice video …. Nice lines on your pieces! I thought your comparison of learning to use a skew chisel to learning to ride a bicycle was the best I’ve ever heard. Tomislov did a great video on the skew chisel that really helped me. The four of you that are involved in the four way projects have helped my turning learning turning curve tremendously. Thank you 🤠🇨🇱

Lots of useful stuff for making your first chess set. I really like the way you mount the blanks on the mini screw chuck whilst making space for the weight.
@MikePeaceWoodturning
@MikePeaceWoodturning 8 ай бұрын
Thanks, Richard. Certainly grabbing with a chuck maybe a bit faster but does not provide for that extra weight. Aand as you have shown in the past, a screw chuck can be a great way for chucking a variety of projects.

Very interesting 4 ways project this month. Yours is the third I've watched so far and each of you have taken very different approaches to the project -- I love that! Now off to watch Sam Angelo's entry. Thanks again to all of you for this extremely engaging set of videos.

You can't beat a story board ( stick). I use them when making multiples. I think it was you from a few years ago.. I also have a cheap set of spanners ( wrenches), which I use very frequently as my set size callipers. Now on to no#2 of the challenge partners.

I suspect some posting error or inventory is out on the Woodturning Store site. Highland WE has them. www.highlandwoodworking.com/record-power-sc1-mini-geared-scroll-chuck.aspx I prefer the direct threaded SC2 with slightly more jaw traverse.

Your appearance is frozen; sound is OK but the picture doesn't follow the sound. Gremlins? As the video progressed, sound and visual were much better. That is one big pawn! Edit #2- Were the designs on the chessboard done by pyrography? If so, I have a project for my wife and her new pyrography set. Thanks for the video.

The project is great. However it is distressing to see you wearing a watch and ring while you are turning. It is a potentially dangerous practice and not responsible to demonstrate.
