Thanks for sharing Mike. I appreciate the fact that thin is an exercize in skill and patience. I was pleased that you didn’t go super super thin but kept it too about 1 to 2 mm, a little more practical. That gives us less experienced turners something to strive too. I really enjoy your style of turning and easy manner on the lathe Mike.

Another very interesting 4 ways project. Very interesting to see the different take each of you has on this. I still need to watch Sam's video to see his take. It was kind of amusing to someone from the desert hearing the words, "... my shop humidity has gotten down to 21%" when we would be saying how humid things have gotten when the humidity gets up to 21%. 😀

😂Yeah, I did some military duty in Utah and was shocked that at 100 degrees I did not sweat and it was far more comfortable than the humid South at 90 degrees.

I've watched 3 of the 4 videos now and am learning something from each. The Bradford Pear really moves when thin. Tom's Ash moved very little. The wetting of the wood was a big take away from your method. This is something I will try. Just have Sam's video to go. Thanks for the 4-way series. I'm learning a lot from you guys.

Hi Mike, having watched this 4 way I do not think I will be turning a thin bowl any time soon, unless it is by accident! I was pleased to see that you use Record Power chucks and gauges. My lathe, chucks, Cam Vac etc are all RP, I have also just ordered a Sabre 350 bandsaw, a 70th birthday present to myself. Most of what I have learned about turning has been by watching videos such as the 4 way series. Keep the videos coming. Thank you, Edward.

Glad all 4 of the demos were under an hour. I was able to watch them all in a row. I find that useful and fun. Thanks for a great explanation. I've not thought about wetting the bowl as I turn. Great idea. Thanks for another fun, informative video.

I use a leather strop 1.5 x 3 to support the wall. Runs smoothly, preventing vibration and heat build up. P.S.: Learning a lot from your challenges. Thanks to the four of you.

I find it easier to make an entry cut and hollow out by running the lathe in reverse and cutting in the far side. Of course, the chuck must be locke on the spindle (and the adapter insert if used).

I love this and all your videos, Mike, they are very informative. Regarding the homemade screw chuck holding a little too well: I've never tried it, but do you think lightly filing the threads would allow it to release more easily?
@MikePeaceWoodturning9 ай бұрын
No. The strength comes from the friction of the wood blank against the wood backing plate of the wood screw chuck.

I always learn something from your videos. I am surprised that y’all 4 way-ers use spindle gouges lots on your bowls. I was taught this is a big no-no. I am a bit afraid to try.
@MikePeaceWoodturning9 ай бұрын
Great point! Think of a spindle gouge as shallow fluted gouge. You do not want it to extend it as far over a tool rest as an equivalent sized BG. Which none of us did.
