How to turn off shower that will not turn off

After a very long day pulling double duty at two jobs, going home to a refreshing shower was the only plan. Yet upon getting out of said shower the handle decided it had other plans. After a no call no show from maintenance it was time to investigate. So after playing the worst game of where's Waldo trying to find a shut off valve I decided to wreck it Ralph my shower and get to the bottom of it. Enjoy hope it helps.

Currently dealing with this exact issue in my apartment. The hot side is still leaking even though i tightened it. My water bill was crazy last month 😔 I know I have a bigger problem because this is an old building and I've really been trying to avoid dealing with my landlord. I literally discovered my water meter outside of my apartment complex was in a sinkhole yesterday. I wonder if that's somehow related I know there's crazy issues being a renter and broke simultaneously is a struggle for real 😔

“Instead of adding a main shut off” I assure you that you still have a main shut off somewhere. Every fixture is supposed to have shut offs for hot and cold. There will be a shut off by the meter, by the hot water heater, under the sinks, behind the toilets, etc. Some showers will have an external shutoff, but most don’t because it is more difficult to do than for other fixtures (there is no external access to the shower’s pipes without opening the handle cover).

There called internal stops they come on certain brands of tub and shower valves there convenient but they do restrict pressure only down side.

That's normal. All shower valves have that shutoff. They didn't "decide" to do this

Didn’t work -so strange that everywhere else has a turn off valve -tried turning off water to the sink in the same room. I have to take to the bed before trying again

Are you sure about that? Typically Those two screws attach the shower valve and the pipe to the structure. If it were a shut-off valve it would be a 1/4 turn lever of a ball valve or a round gate valve handle. On multi family buildings usually do have individual valves located below the shower valve

Yes I am, was confirmed by the maintenance manager the following day these apartments don't have a typical ball valve.

No he’s right. I had an issue with my shower not shutting off. I removed the handle cover and found those 2 screws inside. Sure enough. With a screw driver it shut off the water.

That's how it was when I moved in man. I have tried everything known to man. The tub is a fiberglass unit and it's permanently stained. I have since moved from those apartments.
