Steering assist has to be one of the most dangerous safety features I've ever seen. Do people even test this stuff before they release it?

I totally understand and wondered about this for sure.

Me 2... The number of time it had jerked my steering.... Shoves it into the lane... I need to fake use indicator lights to let it do what I want to do!

Tried it today don’t work… just buy a Tesla or some other car that does it better and it’s absolutely safer in my opinion

It would be hard to make it any worse than many human drivers. Meh.

@@alankwellsmsmba that’s my point some of the cars drive better then most of the idiots we got on the road

Dear Toyota - I just bought a 2022 Avalon Touring - There is not option under that menu to turn off Steering assist - i would like to disable it as i was able to on my 2019 CamryXSE, the steering assist appears to work even when the cruise control isn't active. I have lane tracing turned off but no option to turn off steering assist.

GAH! Thank you! It kept registering tire tracks in the dirt road as painted lines!

Thanks, now how do I turn off the annoying beeping?

I turned off steering assist on my 2018 Sienna, but it still beeps when I cross the line, which I do intentionally. How do I turn that sound off?

I had to dislike this video because I had to displace my frustration somewhere lol. This feature is trash, not useful, cannot believe my car tries to drive itself on the freeway without any warnings. Anyone who has driven for 10+ years will likely HATE this feature. Please share your experiences with me if you agree or disagree.

It's more like flying a plane than traditional driving. Much more information. Adjacent lane changes, safe follow distances, warnings, configurations, autopilot. I like my new Prius, feels like a 737 cockpit. (I have flown a commercial 737 sim...) Rather than have eyes on the road 100% of the time which no human can do in practice, you can go to 50%, potentially less which allows you to scan the systems and indicators as well as pay better attention to the road in general - the work moves from muscle to mind. I find I monitor the entire environment more effectively and with less stress which results in less exhaustion and better safety.

The steering “assist” is THEE most idiotic “safety” idea ever. It’s unnecessary and dangerous.
@alankwellsmsmba7 ай бұрын
For some drivers that's doubtless true and you can turn it off. I'm an engineer, I love it as I understand it.😁

Can’t find it on the 2019 Camry SE
@steves801417 күн бұрын
I just test drove a 2022 Camry SE but was repulsed by the car trying to correct what I was doing by moving the steering wheel! It also beeps constantly when merging. I guess I'll be replacing my Accord with another older Accord without all this stupid interference that I consider dangerous.

Struggling with this. There's nothing in the index of my Yaris manual under the letter L.

Hello, thank you for your inquiry. The Toyota Yaris is not equipped with the Lane Departure Alert (LDA) or Steering Assist safety feature. ^EA

Did all that and my 22 Avalon still wants to drive itself. I guess I'm going to the dealer for an answer, or it's getting traded in for something completely different and more user friendly..

This feature is super dangerous and the opposite of a safety feature. You should remove this from all vehicles.

My car steers itself. Scary! My car just about completed a hard right turn without me touching the steering wheel. I would prefer the older model without this added feature!🤐😬😶

Hi there, for any concerns you experience, we suggest taking your vehicle to your local Toyota dealer to get a proper inspection. You can find your nearest dealer here: www.toyota.com/dealers/.

Toyota has quit making products customers want and instead have created internal goals for themselves which require building stupid features like this and like the ridiculous engine start and stop. I will not be buying a Toyota. I don't want a hybrid and I don't want a CVT transmission or active cylinder management either (Honda). I want a simple car that will allow me to drive it; I don't need Toyota to drive the car for me. I also want a car that any mechanic can work on. I don't want to have to service it at the dealer because nobody wants to touch the thing.
