I just used it occasionally to clean the system. You could feel the difference, even in the low rider Datsun truck I had.

Did a lot of research on gasoline when I was racing stock cars and learned that air craft fuel was NOT good to run in automobiles. Air craft fuel is made for high altitude...DUH...and is formulated different so it is not as dense as automotive fuel and does not make as much power during the combustion stroke. There are less fuel molecules being ignited so less power being made vs. auto fuel. With that being said it was OK to mix air craft fuel with auto gas to raise octane for use on a street car but for pure racing it was not a good choice.

@burnerjack016 жыл бұрын
Higher octane, by itself does NOT equate to increased power. It does, however, ALLOW for increased compression ratios and/or advanced ignition timing. It also allows for hotter exhaust valves before pre-ignition occurs. These aspects of engine design DO equate in greater power. Too many people are under the impression that "higher octane" equates to Specific Energy Content, i.e. How many btu of energy per a specific amount of fuel. Quite often the two go hand in hand such as gasoline and diesel fuel. Diesel has both greater specific energy content as well as a greater ability to resist pre-ignition. Once again, these may go hand in hand, but are actually two separate functions entirely.
@chrismontreuil22066 жыл бұрын

@jrozelle93886 жыл бұрын
many people don't realize higher octane fuel is actually more resistant to combustion than lower octane. In high compression engines the relative easier combusting lower octane fuel will/can combust before the piston has reached the precise point at which combustion is supposed to occur causing pre ignition and knocking. High octane fuel in a low compression engine may not burn completely because the engine doesn't have enough compression to cause complete combustion. The unburned fuel can reignite at the wrong time during piston stroke causing engine knock and even dieseling . Typically naturally aspirated engines with higher compression make more power than lower compression engines; not directly because of high octane fuel but because there's more energy/power released from the combustion of the more highly pressurized fuel air mixture. For naturally aspirated engines use lower octane in lower compression and higher octane in higher compression to get the most power and longevity from your engine. Trump 2020

Yes !! Octane has one use and one only ... as an ignition suppressant under compression ... Once you have enough for the given compression ratio adding more reduces power because it suppresses flame propagation ... Few people understand it makes the fuel burn crappier but higher compression requires it to stop preignition ... It’s a necessary evil as compression goes up
@mikemcmikemcyeahok49772 жыл бұрын
Everybody is wrong pre ignition and detonation are two completely different things. You get detonation from too high of compression it ignites the fuel air mixture before the plug fires and it ignites all at once, the same way a Diesel engine ignites diesel fuel. The high compression creates enough heat to ignite lower octane gasoline. High octane gas is harder to light on fire so a high compression engine needs high octane. Detonation will destroy the top ring lands on a piston faster than you can say wtf was that

Higher octane doesn't give you more horsepower. Octane is a measure of a fuel's ability to resist ignition due to high compression. IOW, you don't want fuel to ignite prematurely in a high compression engine, so you raise the octane. In a regular compression engine (factory, stock vehicle), octane does NOT add horsepower or efficiency. In fact, it could reduce horsepower through incomplete burning.

mt skill you know ethanol produces less vapor then gasoline at the same temp and pressure by a long shot. That's why they put a little gas in e85, if they didn't flex fuel engines would have a hard time starting in colder weather. I highly doubt that ethanol was the reason for vapor lock on those airplanes. I've been running solely on e85 in my 1998 Buick Riviera for years with no evap problems ever. My car was not even a flex fuel vehicle from the factory. For stock power all it needed was about 30% more fuel in the tune and advance the spark timing for better efficiency. Please don't spread misinformation.

alcohol fuels are hard on fuel systems ie rubber (deterioration) and metal (corrosion) , most spark ignition engined aircraft were and are made to run on leaded gas some can run a small percentage of alchy but not much (so basically production aircraft have fuel systems that cant handle alcohol) , nothing inherently wrong with running it as aircraft fuel (just worse consumption, more expensive fuel systems, and more frequent oil changes)
