psulse We had one back then in our area called Turbo Blue. I don’t remember the exact octane rating but I know it was 105 or higher. It ran around $2.75 a gallon. People would add it to drag race. I just used it occasionally to clean the system. You could feel the difference, even in the low rider Datsun truck I had.

Did a lot of research on gasoline when I was racing stock cars and learned that air craft fuel was NOT good to run in automobiles. Air craft fuel is made for high altitude...DUH...and is formulated different so it is not as dense as automotive fuel and does not make as much power during the combustion stroke. There are less fuel molecules being ignited so less power being made vs. auto fuel. With that being said it was OK to mix air craft fuel with auto gas to raise octane for use on a street car but for pure racing it was not a good choice.

115 Avgas or purple Avgas, has a LOT of lead. Even cars without converters or 02 sensors foul out badly on the stuff after a short time. Ran 100LL for a period of time in a classic car and it started to have lead issues after about 1000 miles

The dyno pull was to show that their high compression engine made to run on 93 octane could run on the 87 with the additive. If the additive didn't work it would have most likely made less power and wrecked the engine by pre detonation.

@@mannys9130 If you were at all paying attention to the first comment, which I was replying to, he implied that the engine would have been damaged. That's not the case with knock sensors. Higher octane, by itself does NOT equate to increased power. It does, however, ALLOW for increased compression ratios and/or advanced ignition timing. It also allows for hotter exhaust valves before pre-ignition occurs. These aspects of engine design DO equate in greater power. Too many people are under the impression that "higher octane" equates to Specific Energy Content, i.e. How many btu of energy per a specific amount of fuel. Quite often the two go hand in hand such as gasoline and diesel fuel. Diesel has both greater specific energy content as well as a greater ability to resist pre-ignition. Once again, these may go hand in hand, but are actually two separate functions entirely.

many people don't realize higher octane fuel is actually more resistant to combustion than lower octane. In high compression engines the relative easier combusting lower octane fuel will/can combust before the piston has reached the precise point at which combustion is supposed to occur causing pre ignition and knocking. High octane fuel in a low compression engine may not burn completely because the engine doesn't have enough compression to cause complete combustion. The unburned fuel can reignite at the wrong time during piston stroke causing engine knock and even dieseling . Typically naturally aspirated engines with higher compression make more power than lower compression engines; not directly because of high octane fuel but because there's more energy/power released from the combustion of the more highly pressurized fuel air mixture. For naturally aspirated engines use lower octane in lower compression and higher octane in higher compression to get the most power and longevity from your engine. Trump 2020

Yes !! Octane has one use and one only ... as an ignition suppressant under compression ... Once you have enough for the given compression ratio adding more reduces power because it suppresses flame propagation ... Few people understand it makes the fuel burn crappier but higher compression requires it to stop preignition ... It’s a necessary evil as compression goes up
@mikemcmikemcyeahok4977
@mikemcmikemcyeahok4977 2 жыл бұрын
Everybody is wrong pre ignition and detonation are two completely different things. You get detonation from too high of compression it ignites the fuel air mixture before the plug fires and it ignites all at once, the same way a Diesel engine ignites diesel fuel. The high compression creates enough heat to ignite lower octane gasoline. High octane gas is harder to light on fire so a high compression engine needs high octane. Detonation will destroy the top ring lands on a piston faster than you can say wtf was that

They use the word "points" and he says it will raise the octane a full "4 points". I am pretty sure you need 10 points to make 1 octane. So if you had 93 octane in your fuel tank, you would have to raise it a full 10 points to make it 94 octane. 10 points makes 1 octane. About 19 years ago when I started turbo charging engines the need for high octane became a concern.

Higher octane doesn't give you more horsepower. Octane is a measure of a fuel's ability to resist ignition due to high compression. IOW, you don't want fuel to ignite prematurely in a high compression engine, so you raise the octane. In a regular compression engine (factory, stock vehicle), octane does NOT add horsepower or efficiency. In fact, it could reduce horsepower through incomplete burning.

I am aware of no true 120 octane gasoline-type fuels. Even by 118, it doesn't burn exactly like gasoline. The correct A/F ratio moves from the high 14s to the low 15s. At 13:1, 100 octane gets me all the timing I want during a tune. How much race gas have you purchased in your life, Robby?

Wow. I never would've thought about putting a different label on ACETONE and calling it Racegas and marketing it to the masses. . I guess that's why I'm never on Shark Tank. Now you know. 2 ounces of ACETONE does the exact same thing.

Where is the science. Where is the control group. Do it with 87, then 93, and the 93 created with this product. Lastly do the Dino test with the 100+ octane game from this product. As outputs, measure horse power, torque, knock, acceleration, and other relevant engine parameters. Then this will have meaning. Thus far, all you have shown me is that you can make the Dyno guy make a face.

Better way ! Just ad 20 percent kerosene to 1 gallon of gas and youve got a very good race gas. Been doing it for years.

98 RON is common in Australia at the pumps. Several years ago a some outlets had 100 RON fuel and my bike loved it but it's no longer available . I've wondered if adding a little E85 to 98 fuel to bring the octane up would do the same thing ?

How is that racing grade fuel? Isn't race fuel 120 or higher? Aviation fuel that we used to buy for go carts was higher than 105. And probably cheaper.

It is designed for street cars with a few upgrades .i.e more compression and little nitrous. Its not for a full blown motor.

Why not start with 91, then mix up a blend of this and see how much timing you can add?? This doesn’t really prove anything to me.

@@Marshall-v3f I was mocking the shade tree mechanic method of making an ethanol emulsion by adding water to the fuel. Pretty sure you add water to the gas just as much as you remove water with the ethanol.

mt skill you know ethanol produces less vapor then gasoline at the same temp and pressure by a long shot. That's why they put a little gas in e85, if they didn't flex fuel engines would have a hard time starting in colder weather. I highly doubt that ethanol was the reason for vapor lock on those airplanes. I've been running solely on e85 in my 1998 Buick Riviera for years with no evap problems ever. My car was not even a flex fuel vehicle from the factory. For stock power all it needed was about 30% more fuel in the tune and advance the spark timing for better efficiency. Please don't spread misinformation.

alcohol fuels are hard on fuel systems ie rubber (deterioration) and metal (corrosion) , most spark ignition engined aircraft were and are made to run on leaded gas some can run a small percentage of alchy but not much (so basically production aircraft have fuel systems that cant handle alcohol) , nothing inherently wrong with running it as aircraft fuel (just worse consumption, more expensive fuel systems, and more frequent oil changes)
