All i can say for the last couple of years i have been resiting pressure going to heal. and my game sucks. I will apply your preference Thursday in hopes it will improve my impact and finish positions. Ball goes everywhere and my finish is completely out of balance. So disappointing. Tks again

AWESOME!!! You have mentioned in your other videos that the golf swing starts from the ground up. I asked several of my golf buddies, how do they shift their weight in the downswing. No one gave me a solid answer that helped me. So, this is what the DR. ordered. Your analogy of the CLOCK GEARS is the UNBELIEVABLE. That one move started everything in motion. I never heard anyone mention this before. This is unfricking believable. I would like to say.... Thank you DR. MILO!

Your instructional video's have unlocked the golf swing for me! I've been sharing your channel with friends. It's been like a capstone course I've been taking over the past two years of studying on KZbin upon returning to the game after about a 20 year hiatus (no KZbin in the 80's/90's, just well meaning friends). There's lot's of great stuff out there, and I'm so glad I finally got here (thanks to your collaboration with Be Better Golf). So right now, I'm working on incorporating the highly biomechanically efficient "golfletic" swing movements into a scaled back effort level (~80% as I feel it). After the initial thrill of experiencing better striking with the driver and the longest driving of my life, I started focusing on the irons, and that took some adjustment. Turns out, the adjustment was to back off the swing "intensity" (by which I mean how hard I intend to hit the ball) and focus on the biomechanics. The ball being teed up gives some slack to the driver that isn't there with a ball on the ground. Well, the efficiency compensated for the "lower intensity" and ball striking with irons is now more repeatable, and the iron distances are about the same, perhaps a half club longer! For me that's about 145-150 8i (20 yr old clubs). Monday I hit my first sub-par 9 at -1, and the coolest thing about it was that there was nothing spectacular going on (it was a planned 9 hole outing, had other obligations). Just hitting fairways with enough length to approach greens with 9i and lower, and hitting greens/fringes and two-putting. Piece of cake :-) Thanks Milo, and here's to hoping you reach more golfers and subscribers with your instruction.

The clearest explanation of the pivot I have seen, and I've searched for years, and watched countless online.... Your instruction is great, echoes a lot of George Gankus, without being so technical. He did a video analysis of my swing a couple years ago, and gave several things to help with my stalling, early extension, lack of pivot.... but I just couldn't get how to initiate the movement of the hips in transition. My left leg just doesn't want to initiate anything. I saw a video you recorded a video with Eric Corgorno on how to move the lower body in the downswing, and at last, after years of struggling with this, the lights started to flash on. The two things that struck me the most, (1) the left hip initially moves in a downward direction (or stays down), and (2) quickly followed by right-side bend. The motions seem to flow one into the other when done correctly. The feel may be different for different folks, but for me it definitely is the left leg following the left hip. I don't even think of the left leg, it just seems to do the right thing if the left hip takes lead. Makes me feel like I'm sitting my left cheek down on something slightly behind me to get the whole thing going. Thank you so much, I think this is going to transform my whole game to a new level if I can ingrain these mechanics.

this explains what i have been looking for perfectly. i’ve just been searching for the best way to put my feet at set up so i can do this powerfully and stay balanced all the way through. i needed some work on my left leg stability and most people do because it allows for a more powerful swing. I suffer from multiple ankle injuries and flat feet so finding the most efficient foot placement for me has been tough. I’m constantly dancing on the tee box until i find a sturdy starting place n it messes w my head pre swing. i almost never feel entirely comfortable unless i’ve been consistently training lower body at the gym. Otherwise my take away has to be slow enough to hit the marks or i sway or my arms come back too fast and it pulls my body off the ball and good luck finding center from there

Untill i did that drill with One leg up to feel the right thing. I realised i was moving weight to the right, TURNING My hips but there was never any pressure on the inside of my back leg or back glute. Nothing was loaded, immdiatly realised how much easier it is to get the downswing right if you do this correct in the backswing. THANK YOU

If you think about what your right arm (UPPER BONE-HUMERUS) does during the swing, everything takes care of itself automatically. Your arm goes up and your arm goes down as you rotate your chest back and through. It's two movements blended into one coordinated movement. This thought makes everything really simple. Arm goes up. Arm goes down. It takes about three minutes of doing this for your brain to "click". You'll feel what you have to do and then everything becomes automatic. Once you blend the chest movement and the arm(s) movement into one timed movement you will be astonished at how well you hit the ball.

Also I don't replace my spikes as I should...and this video just explained the importance of that.. because if not.. you'll use your back and or slide too much..just not to slip..that's why Hogan had an extra spike in his right shoe..it all makes sense now.

I took an online lesson from Milo a couple weeks ago and I'm making progress. But today I tried starting the transition with the clockwise rotation of the trail leg. F me! That is hard to do! Wish there was a drill to work into this move. By the time the BS is complete at P4 my trail leg is pretty damn straight, trail butt cheek back, and lead knee turned in or bent, it is hard coming up with the energy to turn the trail leg some more from that position. IDK, maybe I'm missing something. ML, keep it coming I love your stuff, but if you can help with this one it sure would be appreciated.

Hello, very good explanation of what is happening in the downswing. I have a question regarding your clip starting around 6:15. It seem to me that your right forearm is rotated a lot clockwise till P6, shaft at second parallel right before impact- probably beyond that point. Does that help you to control the release point? I have the assumption that the earlier the right elbow straightens and the sooner we turn our forearms or humerus bone counter clockwise, the earlier we release the clubbed into the ball.

Great video Milo, exactly the topic I needed guidance with. Can I ask if you have a specific swing thought or trigger that relates to this movement at the transition to kick off the downswing? Currently mine is to try and open the hips as fast as I can and leave my arms up, which I've had some success with but also a too severe in to out path (10°+) when I get lazy with it. A lot of your swing philosophy is in tune with where I have managed to get to in my own swing 'journey'. Do you offer online lessons? I'd love to get your opinion on my swing.

The drill to turn the back foot using the piece of cardboard was very helpful for me (Counter Rotating Force to hips). Just practicing it in the living room you can feel your hips want to turn faster and more in-line with the club path (I do not feel out of control or spinning off the ball). I know Milo is a ex baseball player and I read Hogan's swing was influence by his brother that was a baseball player. So I watched Bryce Harpers homerun derby clips on you tube and you can see his back knee/leg coil by watching the line on his baseball pants rotate as he shifts his weight in the coil. He is getting like 20-30% more turn by the coil in his back knee......the line down his pant goes from pointing straight at the catcher to 20-30% past the catcher........ He is definitely not doing the squash the bug technique so many of us learned in the 90's playing baseball. Very interesting take on rotation for maximum power & accuracy. I think there is similarities to Milo's technique and Bryce Harpers Technique to get max power.

Well done! Can you explain ball position related to target line. I’m guessing my position is wrong in relation to my target line. Great lesson. This point of the right leg needing to turn CLOCKWISE (away from the target) at the start of the downswing is leading edge stuff. This necessary movement is certainly far from intuitive for most golfers when the rotation of hips/upper body, etc. is required on the downswing in a counter-clockwise (toward the target). I think for most of us - the right foot/knee/leg wants to move counterclockwise when we start the downswing. And as you say - this causes all sort of problems.

Proper rotation of the hips to avoid back issues is what I am after however doesn’t the loading of the back leg as shown with the cardboard drill put excessive pressure on the knee since there is that twisting motion? Kind of like I saved my back only to now have a knee issue?

Our knees and hips are designed for force absorption so we want to use them where possible.

When you land on the lead foot on the downswing should you feel that you are pushing the foot towards the target line and rotating the toe towards the target (the exact opposite of what you're trying to make the lead hip do)? So in other words, from the ground up, are you pushing your lead hip into rotation?
@MiloLinesGolf Жыл бұрын
For the lead foot, I prefer pressure fall into middle/ball of foot with heel if anything arriving closer to target initially than toe. Many try to cheat rotation by spinning their left foot. This creates pressure shift issues.

Great lesson, I have been playing golf for 44 yrs and still try to master the hip movement. I tried your card board on the right foot and drill on pushing left leg in order to help my right hip to turn, the problem I am facing is that my right heel has lift up ( toe pointing to the ground similar to when finishing the swing) which elevated my right hip. Are there gonna be a problem swinging like this? Please advise

The feel you explained with the cardboard under your right foot was a lightbulb moment for me. I have been trying to replicate your lower body motion in the downswing to try and achieve your amazing rotation and tow the club into impact and this was the missing piece for me.

Is your trail foot intentionally turning counter clockwise on the cardboard or is the transition move on the lead side making it do that??
@vanceweber40946 жыл бұрын
I have to concur with another person who commented that this may be one of the most elucidating videos I have seen on this topic. Great communication. Quick questions--should one practice these motions completely sequentially? and ....is the movement you describe -- using ground force to rotate the pelvis--is that the "Torque" that is described Swing Catalyst tracings? I had not understood that previously. (Hope your answer is yes!! ) And what about the "Vertical" force measured in Swing Catalyst? Is that part of the final left leg rotational part you describe? Awesome.
@MiloLinesGolf6 жыл бұрын
Vance Weber I’m happy this video was elucidating (nice word by the way). Yes The torque measured by swing catalyst is what I have described here and yes the way your legs push up and away as the club goes out to the ball is the vertical force measured by swing catalyst as well.

@@MiloLinesGolf Thanks so much. I minored in English a long time ago. Haha. Just discovered your channel and you have helped me immensely in short order. I did ask another question in another video about hands steepening. If you would be kind enought......Look forward to reviewing all your content and perhaps hook up for online lesson or however you do it.

You know it’s good advice when you can get me to say “ooooohhh”. I’m guilty of one of the faults mentioned at the beginning of the video. The cardboard example got me to understand.

Like the video but does your right hip not move forward as your left hip rotates and left leg straightens? Another key that has helped me is on the downswing getting my hands in front of the quads of my right leg. At that point I feel my hips rotate( left hip moving back right hip forward(?))and left leg straighten.

I tried this swing thought and started making amazing contact. However, I started to baby slice the ball and I've never had an issue with slicing. Any idea why this swing thought could possibly cause a slice? Thank you!

Hey Milo, Hi from Dublin Ireland. Love the vids and info. My hip movement is of my biggest swing problems . I tend to loose my spine angle in the takeaway and my right hip moves towards ball a little then a little more in the downswing. My CHS with driver is 110 approx. I took your hip move straight to the course and swing felt more powerful for sure. My hips are sore from rehearsing the move 😎My posture at address is usually balanced. Even if i put my weight in my heels i still move away from the ball and lift when youd think id try and move forward or increase my spine tilt to find my balance. My left knee moves in lowering my left hip in the takeaway but i still manage to lift my spine angle. Long story short could you do a vid on right hip in backswing. Looking at movement from when the club starts in the takeaway. Thx a mil for everything. Best, Adam.

milo - make a video explaining why long drive champions don't have trail foot on ground through downswing. how are they sourcing their power?

It's counter-intuitive to the way I learned but it really makes sense. I think it simplifies, not complicates the move.

I have seen so many vids about hip Rotation and how it should look...blabla. Nobody told how to do it. They all just showing the move. YOU were the first and as far as i can see the only one who ever told how it actually works and what to do, what to feel. To turn the right leg counter ClockWise is "the Golf secret" for the correct hipturn Great Video. Since the hiprotation is the key in the golf swing, 1 mio thumbs up for you! Helped me alot.

Is it safe to say, you can feel as if your left leg turns counter-clock wise whereas the right leg is clock wise? I struggle a lot with getting the left leg to react correctly.

Nicholas talked about the club head beating his shirt buttons to impact. I seem to do better keeping my chest pointing right of the ball on the downswing. I’d like to hear your thought! Thanks.
@MiloLinesGolf6 жыл бұрын
That may have been his feel but his chest was as open or more-so than most. Just speculating but his feel was probably to keep him from just spinning out of the top and loading as I described in my athletic transition video. If you seem to be better with your chest facing behind the ball it is probably due to a need to flip the face closed at the bottom. I’d have to see video to be sure of the root cause.

I use a hip bump and it works for me . I start opening up naturally. The only problem with it is that you will eventually have hip pain if you start trying to hit the ball farther after so many swings. This way of moving your hips is much more safer on your hips

I find myself at the same time as my hips rotate I make a conscious effort to focus on my hands and how they turn to make sure the club face is square and compress the ball and it feels like i lose speed ... when i do it correctly the ball feels like it explodes off the club face when i do it wrong i hit it thin but far straight ... not enough practice or muscle memory yet
