I recently purchased a security system from Ebay. To my surprise, it was a 2G GSM transmitter to alert my cell phone anywhere in the world, however AT&T no longer uses 2G, and the alarm was worthless as a long range transmitter, and Only an expensive local alarm. Alfred and an old cell is PERFECT! Thank you so much. The alarm is to protect our R.V., when we are not in it, but want video evidence for prosecution.

I think you glossed over an aspect of this topic, all the discussions of using an old functioning phone, but to do what you say, you would also need an account for that phone. I had read years ago that you can configure a phone to be controlled remotely by another phone, so if the two phones are within Bluetooth range, you can video with one phone, and get the picture remotely.

Some things you should mention 1. Alfred has a free mode with ads in a very cheap paid mode which is ad-free. 2. The phone still need restarted about once a week to keep them running proper. 3. It's wise to use an auto run program to reinitiate the camera software every 2 hours this prevents freezing and keeps it working well
@maartendeville81805 жыл бұрын
I used to run the free version of Alfred, but didn't like the lag, ads or resolution. Then switched to the free version of AtHome (the app he deleted at the beginning of the video) and it is better in every way. Sharper, better framerate, more responsive, and less obtrusive ads.

I like this tutorial. I have tried to do the same thing (different app - iVideon on Android because it gives full HD resolutions). The issues with any of theses is the constant charging of the phone when it's plugged in. I had brand new battery in my phone (galaxy S3) and it swell up and opened the phone within a week. Batteries just don't like to stay warm and be constantly charged. I even looked for software to limit the charging, used a timer outlet, but none of it worked well enough.
@ViktorGazo6 жыл бұрын
HangingMike I tried with my s3 and it wouldn't even turn on. What phones let you do that?
@mestizoboy6 жыл бұрын
If your smart phone continues charging after the battery's at 100%, the phone is faulty -it's not an issue of being left plugged in.
@ViktorGazo6 жыл бұрын
You're absolutely correct. The thing is the phone will start charging as soon as the battery goes to 99% and then stops at 100 and then again and again at 99% and this happens pretty often if you have an app running that is analyzing the camera feed for motion all the time, to be able to start recording and then send notifications.

you forget, that this is about using the WiFi feature... which therefore does not need any SIM. Now, I have only used Alfred (with 6 Samsung phones as Cams. Never used the other App as yet. Alfred comes Free, which is why there are heaps of Ads. Subscription eliminates ALL Ads. Alfred can be Subscribed to (which I recently did too) although if you go Free, the system does all the basic Motion Detection; low light; 2 way audio; and a more recent new feature, the Alarm bell that you can send back to the Cam phone. The advantages of going the extra and Subscribing: Cloud Storage increases from 7 days, up to 30 days. Image quality goes up from the basic 6408480, up to HD when suscribed. Subscription in Aust for example is about $30 per year.

The video didn't address a couple of key issues which I've noted a number of people asking about on google play store (and other) reviews but never getting simple/direct answers... 1) is it REQUIRED the old repurposed phone have a SIM card with an active cellphone account to perform a JUST camera monitoring function? Forget all the messaging. 2) Does the Alfred or AtHome setup allow for direct OldPhone > local WiFi /router > NewPhone and/or OldPhone > local WiFi /router > Computer connectivity, or does everything have to pass through a 3rd party cloud storage server? 3) Does the "new" phone technically have to have a SIM and be active on a mobile carrier just to receive video from the "old" phone in this kind of local setup? Do ANY security camera app tools provide a means of setting up the old phone as a live streaming video source for the new phone (or an on-network computer) without going through a cellphone carrier and without requiring the video data be sent to a 3rd part cloud service? Specific example, one has an old LG D500 (Android 4.4) phone that does NOT have a SIM card and is NOT associated with any active cellphone carrier/provider. All functionality works fine, just can't make non-911 calls or send messages via a phone carrier with it (e.g. cam, wifi, internet via wifi, bluetooth, etc all work fine without having a SIM card and without being connected to a carrier) The network is an local Arris SBG6900ac modem/router (and/or any number of other WiFi high-speed routers one might use) and, The "new" phone is an Galaxy S7 (Android 8.0) that is on an active cellphone carrier account (e.g. Tmobile), and 2 PCs running Win7-64bit Pro, and Win10-64bit HOME.

I think the phones stop charging the battery at 100% and use the power cable from then on... You can turn on your phone with NO battery as long as its plugged in. Also, ive left phones charging for days and nothing has ever happened.

Even on high sensitivity, Alfred misses some motion events. It does not record the entire time that motion is in view. It has an "algorithm" that determines what is important. I'll try the other app you are using here. Also, a clip on wide angle lens is pretty necessary to get a good view because sometimes the phone does not have enough in view. Lastly, the heat caused two of my galaxy S4 batteries to swell (factory reset so no junk running in background) , so I run the app in my garage without the battery door.

I know this comment is old but old samsung phone batteries actually swell on their own kzbin.info/www/bejne/hZewYXqnqK51bMU

Is that phone still on and working?
@vasekvi Жыл бұрын
@@alykkt no but the phone still works but I got scared it would cause a fire in the garage with the battery taped in. I have nest aware now so I just bought extra cameras for that since it doesn't add to the monthly cost to have more cameras

Does it work without SIM card - subscription or do you need it for each phone?
