I'm playing an amazing 1992 Marshall model 6101 30th Anniversary 1x12, 100W combo using a 2008 Gibson Les Paul R9. These can be tweaked to so many sounds both good and bad ones. I guess that's why it's still affordable, at least in Sweden. Here's how to tweak it!
Penthode vs Triode on the 6100LM:
• Pentode Vs Triode Mode...
More clips with the 6101:
• Marshall REALLY should...
Here is a video of the Head version 6100:
• I bet you didn't think...

Thanks Johan! I own the 6100LM head (the variant with 5881 tubes instead of EL34) since 1997, and I Iike the crunch A+B modes most for classic rock and blues tones.

Alex lifeson used these on Rush 1994 counterparts Tour and the 1996/97 Test For Echo tours .. He also startes using Gibsons again onstage at the same time particularly his 1970 Tobacco Sunburst Les Paul Deluxe/standard . It was one of those deluxues that was factory routed for full size Humbuckers and had Gibson T tops . One of the most underrated Les pauls ever in terms of tone . Lifesons tone with those amps and his 70 les Paul can be heard on the 1997 Rush different stages live Album . The pro shot footage from Auburn hills in 1994 and The Pro shoot footage from Toronto in 1996 at Molson Amphitheater.

I got one of these because of your video from 6 years ago, Johan! 😊 I love it. The cleans are heavenly (you didn’t really do them justice here…), and the amp performs excellent at bedroom volumes. Mine has a Jensen C12K speaker. Never had any heat issues, btw. Thanks again, Johan 👍

Johan I'm using one of these, I can make it sound like a Dumble ods. On the subject of your upcoming ZZ Top vid and Sharp Dressed Man I reckon he could have used a broadcaster or Tele on that riff when you listen closely it's quite twangy. The solo is open G with a slide as I'm sure you know, maestro.

humble video idea: Yngwe Malmsteen said years ago on his Premier Guitar Rig Rundown that the fact his DOD 250 Overdrive didn't have a tone control (like a vintage fuzz wouldn't) was very important, as the tone control implied losing signal before it reached the amp. maybe it's interesting

@@heggy_69 @JohanSegeborn Correction: it was on his interview for Music Radar (11 March 2019).I thought it had been on Premier Guitar Rig Rundown. My bad. "I find that it's best if you *start clean* and *end clean in your guitar chain.* You don't want your pickup sound to be distorted; it should sound clear. Not quiet, but clear. "The first boost comes from my Fender overdrive, which is *more like a DOD 250 than a Tube Screamer...* "Let's get technical for a minute: it's really important for an overdrive pedal to have *no active electronics.* Most others aren't true bypass. They have a tone circuit... that stuff is shit! Get rid of it. "Anything with gain and level, don't bother with. If you took my pedal and went straight through the mixing board, *it wouldn't be distorted; it would just be louder. The tubes have to do all the work* - it's very important." His DOD 250 does have gain and level controls, but he always puts both on 10. I guess his point is a booster pedal without a tone control is the most neutral type of overdrive for pushing a tube amp into distortion.
@heggy_69
@heggy_69 Ай бұрын
@@endlesscurrent that's fair but technically the gain control on a 250 also cuts bass as it goes up. But that's just being pedantic I know what he means lol I appreciate how simple a distortion pedal with two knobs is tbh, I'm still on the hunt for a distortion+ at a good price. I will say tho if he's putting a 250 on full straight into a mixing board and it's totally clean then I think it might be busted lol

I had a TSL-100. It reminds me oof that. Clean channel = Dull, Crunch channel = good, Lead channel = garbage. I used to max out the crunch channel, and use the controls on my guitar. I also pulled two output tubes, to crank the shit out of it.

Had this amp a couple of years ago, as an step up from my JCM800 single channel combo. Wrong: clean channel never used because there is no mojo going on, lead channel never used because the crunch channel with a pedal was still a better lead sound. So what you then have is a very complicated crunch channel amp with 3 stages of gain. There was no real advantage over the JCM800, so I sold it again.

I think that you can probably blame the speaker, I don't know what you like, but I use a Fane Axiom AlNiCo in mine, and only play clean, but it does my thing with that. I didn't get to try out the fat Celestion, mine came with an EVM12L. But I didn't work that too much, I would have switched to an EVM12S, which is more my bag, but I am already doing an AlNiCo thing with four Jensen Blackbird 100s under my 6100lm and I was planning on going that way with this.

When it comes to sound one of the best and the most versatile amp Marshall ever built (only 410 series comparable to it). But… Constantly broken total service nightmare (I own two heads and one combo). Midi electronics that was stupidly put in it (that I never ever used) is making the whole circuitboard unnecessary complicated and extremly unreliable. There is modification that removes whole that midi crap and makes it nice 3 channel (reportedly) amp that I plan to perform on it.

@@JohanSegeborn It's a fairly complex design with a lot of components stuffed into a small chassis. Several pcb boards, some directly above the four power tubes. Heat dissipation can be a problem. Also, one of the midi switching chips is basically obsolete if I'm not mistaken. Great tones, but I wouldn't buy one unless I knew an amazing tech (and I don't).
