Thanks for sharing, I just learned that my truck may have clogged drain tubes or a leak in the rear cab brake light. I only recently discovered that my floorboard behind the driver's seat is damp: I thought I either left my door ajar or the seals in the door frame or rear window was leaking. I was conversing with the guys at O'Reilly's and one guy inquired if I had a sunroof - yeah I do have a sunroof! It is making sense to me because I started having a sagging headliner 2 to 3 years ago. I thought it was Florida humidity, but Geez Louise, I pray that the inside of my cab roof isn't rusting. Last night I checked my sunroof and I noticed the plastic parts are cracked - I hope I can fix my water leak problem.

These instructions worked great! I used a long flexible brush that's meant for cleaning water supply lines in refrigerators. My vehicle is a 2015 Toyota Sienna XLE and the drain holes are completely hidden from view, even if you stick your head up through the open sunroof. I located them by pouring a few ounces of water into the trough around the sunroof (with it slid open) and probing carefully around and under the tracks that the sunroof slides on. When I found a spot that seemed to be an opening, I worked the brush into it until I was able to slide almost three feet of the brush into the hidden spot under the sunroof track. After pulling out the brush, I tried pouring water again, and this time the water drained away, emptying out behind the front tire well. I repeated the same steps on the other side with the other drain hole until water was flowing out. I'll update with another comment the next time it rains to confirm the drains are working! Thank you for your help!

I was warned specifically by the dealer NOT to use compressed air - if there's a stiff clog below, the pressure can blow the plastic tube off the metal one in the frame, and then you've got a leak until you completely disassemble the door frame. If it's persistent, better to find the exit in the wheel well and blow air up that from below. I used a piece of tubing over the exit and blew through it by mouth, and got a big plug of black glop to fly out. Good luck.
@eldigitom96804 жыл бұрын

Years ago (1964-1965) I owned a 1963 Austin Healey 3000 Mk II - this was the first year with a "pull up" convertible top. My parking place was on a slight downgrade, and when it rained my passenger side floorboard would fill up with water, sometimes 2-3 inches deep. It ruined the carpets. I looked and looked for the problem, and one day I noticed a small rubber drain tube, about 4" long, above the right rear tire. It was connected to a small trough that collected the rain runoff from the convertible top. Inside the tube was a small rock, undoubtedly kicked up by the tire. I worked the rock out, and it solved the problem.

BTW Compressed air is a good way to possibly blow the drain line off of the fitting (the drain hole) at the top. I used air on my 2007 Cadillac DTS, and it blew the drain line off. So be careful when using compressed air! 👨🏼🔧 🔧
@TSPhotoAtlanta3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the good quality no nonsense video. I'd be careful blowing air through from the top of the drain. As good an idea as that is, some cars like the E 90 series BMW, have a very weak attachment above the headliner where that drain tube goes into a fitting. At that point, the tube can come off and then all the draining will be into your headliner and passenger compartment. It may make sense in some cars, (all or most BMWs, I don't know) to try to check that, or if you can't or don't , then be real careful about any pressure you apply on or through that tube! If you can find the weep holes (below the car but above the trim usually that's directly under the car,) usually identified by rubber grommet type fittings, that would be a good place to clean out because the dirt & debris that drains down to those often hangs up and forms form clogs. So clean out above and below, if you can!

careful. I wouldn't use air. Those hoses have been known to blow off if they're getting old. Just clean the drain hole then pour some windshield washer fluid down the drain. Just a little, like half a cup.

I agree with that, I've emphasized it many times in the comments below--that air is not necessary for cleansing the hoses. But it's also an exaggeration that it will damage them, definitely should not be done before the clog is removed though.

I’m gonna try this. I was going to buy a long wire brush/pipe cleaner on Amazon. But I’m gonna try this first!

@@dadthefixerflorida good luck, my friend! I hasten to add that 90% of the time the only thing needed is to scrape the muck away to expose the drain hole opening. Hardly ever is it necessary to run a line down into the drain tube. Hope this helps.✌️

Air pressure can actually cause damage to the grommets or rupture the tubing. Canned air may be better.
@eldigitom96802 жыл бұрын
It will not damage the drainage tubes as long as they are (cleared first)-as per the video. It’ll be a straight through shot.

2017 rx350 soaked inside. Trimmer line fixed it faster than it took to dig out the line. Should be on the list of preventative maintenance.

what pressure did you use with your air attachment?
@eldigitom96803 жыл бұрын
Whatever shop pressure is, probably 90-120. As per the video, if air is used, it is only after clog is cleared and water running through the drain. Compressed air is not a necessary element and only as a final flush.

As you can see folks all it takes is knowledge to DIY (Do it Yourself). This is just 1 DIY. DIY is what manufacturers do not want and discourage as it extends the life of what you paid for, preventing or delaying further sales and profit for their pockets. DIY discouragement is a fact not a conspiracy. They limit access to knowledge (eg. Tesla) limit access to diagnostic tools and make things harder to open and service to increase premature wear.

Mine is clogged at firewall on passenger side. There is a filter at the end. What's best way to punch through the end. 2008 Altima. Weed eater cord didn't work. Heard 3d filament cord works good.

In the video, I only addressed simple clogs, which are mainly at the entrance of the drain hole because that’s what 90% of clogs are. If you have a clog that you’re convinced is that far down in the drain tube, it may be something you’ll need to take to a body shop. Otherwise it’s going to probably require removing the kick panel and or glove box door and evaluate it from there.
