how to unclog sunroof draining

My wife's Lesxus had become an E300 Swampmaster when the sunroof started draining into the cabin. I watched many videos on KZbin telling how to unclog the front drains, but this was not helping. Our driveway is sloped so that water runs to the rear and I knew clogged rear drains were the problem. I found your video and flawless victory! It happened exactly like you documented. Nothing at first, a tiny drip, and then it opened up. Now both of the rear drains are clear! Thanks for the tip about pouring the two chemicals separately. That is important to activate the foam down near the clog.

I did this on my 2014 Nissan. The bottle says it is safe for plastic. Great tip about raising the front of the car to make sure the liquid gets to the rear drains. I used a turkey baster and some 3/8” clear tubing and snaked the tubing to the rear corners. Worked great.

Could not find a thing on my E70 BMW X5 sunroof drain problem. Was a little iffy on trying this but after reading the comments here from others "I said what the heck"!! It says it's safe for plastic but I'd still rinse it real well afterwards. Also good to maintain those drains and pour some hot water through it every 4 to 6 months or so to make sure it's draining and clear out any junk.

Hoy me dijeron que tenia que pagar $150 para diagnosticarlo. Voy a intentar esto y le dejo saber. Edit for results: I did this. Nothing was even dripping out of the drip tray. I used paper towels to soak up the water in the drip tray and did this same technique. Gave it 30 mins and when I flushed with the hot water it started pouring out! Thank you Nestor!!!

This is what I was looking for. I was like there has to be something to drain it without removing the bottom covers. I just couldn't think. I put oxiclean 3 in 1 deep clean with hot water before I saw your video. I'll wait a week or few days before trying the drano if oxiclean doesn't resolve the issue.

I like your video and subscribe to your channel. I have a 2016 Honda HR-V that is getting water under the front passenger side. I was able to insert about 4' of string trimmer line but it would not go any further. I poured water and the water did come out under the car. However, when it rained, the water is still getting in the car. Do you think the drain is still clog or can it be another reason? I've ordered the Drano Dual Force from your Home Depot link and will give this a try. Can you answer the following questions too so I can make sure I follow your instructions correctly. 1. How much Drano liquid to use? 2. Which Drano liquid side to use first? 3. How long to wait before pouring hot water? 4. How much hot water to use and how hot does it have to be? Should I let boiling water cool off? Thank you in advance for your advice.

Are you dealing with a Toyota product? The front drains go into a body cavity. The "drain" holes in that body cavity - a pinch weld seam between outer fender and body - get clogged up too. And the sunroof drains then fill that cavity up to a point where the water overflows an opening into the interior footwell. Soaking the carpet. I sure wouldn't want something like Draino going into that cavity where it might overflow into the interior. Especially because those openings are filled with electronic connectors! Water alone is bad enough. But introducing harsh chemicals to the connectors.........

@@tharais 2013 infiniti G37, I had a home mechanic fix it for me. From what I was told the clog was that plastic cap that the tubing connects to just before exiting the front body frame to drain to the floor. He replaced the fitting with an extended metal tube.

Hello. I just tried ur remedy on my 09’ Nissan Altima. Water continues to leak into the inside, back console, that leads down by the back windows? When I poured the drano in., it seems as if the drano just came into the inside back console, window area? Cld my drain valves be loose possibly? I’m trying to understand, and fix, without taking things apart. Yet, I’ll do whatever needs to be done. Ur input wld be so greatly appreciated.

Your tubes were probably already full of water. On an Altima you can reach the rear drain tubes by taking the roof liner off. Just remove the handles (where you might hang clothes) and the liner pops right off like legos. Then the drain tubes are just stuck on the sunroof and pop off

No this will not damage the tubing , there will not be a paint contact with this , every sunroof has a plastic trade ,,

For anyone else reading this these years later who is worried, flushing with water will work, but you can also pour vinegar (which is acidic) down the tubes to neutralize the drain cleaner (which is almost always basic, check and see)

Great video, thank you. My Highlander is getting water inside the car when it rains. I'm not sure if the weather stripping needs replacing or if its due to a clogged drain. But i'm gonna try this first before replacing the stripping. I would like your own personal opinion on this. Do you think it is more than likely clogged drains or worn stripping?
