I'm russian and I lived in the US for about 6 years. During my last years there I was able to read all kinds of books including scientific ones, I would understand all kinds of movies and documentaries, and I felt absolutely free to express myself in English. I even used to think in English more than I would in Russian. Came back to Russia 12 years ago and completely stopped using English. And now I realize that I've lost my fluency, I keep forgetting words, especially those that are not used very often. And now I'm frustrated about it and I want to get back to the level I was at. I still can understand pretty much anything, but I think my speaking skills is what has suffered the most.

Hey, Thiago, First of all, I would like to apologize for not commenting on your first Podcast. I forgot, I'm sorry. I would like to tell you that I have been following you since you made that video teaching English with Top Gun: Maverick. I'm studying for IELTS right now, and believe me, my vocabulary has increased a lot following your videos through RealLifeEnglish and certainly all your videos that I found on KZbin. Because your story was a great inspiration for me, I'm Brazilian too and learning English in Brazil is a great task... I pay a lot of attention to your videos, your pronunciation and everything. Believe! I understand a lot of what you say in English. And now I follow your Podcasts on Spotify. I am very grateful for being able to learn about your life journey in learning English. I'm certainly learning every day from your videos. Lots of light on your path, absolute success is what you deserve my friend. Believe me, your Podcast is a class with great knowledge. Thanks.

Some days ago a friend who is an English teacher sent me an English Test to see what my English level could be. I happily took the test, sent it back to him and He sent an Email telling me "Congratulations.. Your English level is C1". I'm not into English levels and stuff like that but I know I'll keep on improving my English skills day after day.. Because learning a new language.. It is like walking a road without ending 🌟 Thanks so much for your Video.. Which I found very well done and helpful : Greetings from Spain 👍

Hi Thiago, my contryman! I'm proud of myself for watching your video and understand a quite thing in English. I'm 17 I've been studying English for 1 year and 5 months, my goal is to be able to use the language without struggling, therefore, I think I will be happy reaching at b2/c1 level. I think it's a good feeling when you notice that you can understand something in a language that it's not yours. I think my current level is A2 or B1, one thing that I have some trouble is in Speaking because I'm shy and never practice enough before, hence, i have been talking with chat gpt for a few months ago. I talking to him for ten minutes almost every day.

Thank you Thiago for your videos. I am 63 years old and my journey with English is a bit like yours. Coming from a poor family, in the beginning, I also did not have enough resources to study in language schools or with private tutors. Fortunately, I had a friend at work who helped me improve my level with some magazines and tapes, the technological resources available at that time. However, despite these humble beginnings, my patience and determination led me to have opportunities to travel abroad to work with native English speakers, which did not require me to have very sophisticated English. Although I can understand almost any audio, video or written material I come across, my English level, in terms of conversation, is not advanced, I have struggled to improve it for decades without any substantial results. Sometimes I feel stuck and the right words do not come to my mind while speaking, I would like to improve it. My goal, nowadays, is to be fully prepared to give presentations in my field, ERP Systems (IT). Thank you for your encouragement. Your story is fantastic, congrats!

As same as you are.My goal is to achieve a c1 level or even more.At the time i am writing this comment.I guess maybe i am a b1 or b2 right now.My reading, skill is my best skill in English, and listening is lower than it.but, both of two are hightly above my speaking and writing level.Sometimes,i found it is difficult to express my meaning in a decent way by using a decent word or construct a wonderful sentence. The worst thing is that when i was in some situation that need me to truly communicate with some natives.I usually almost can't throw a single word out of my mouse. That is very frustrating😢😢

I recommend combining the private classes you have with your teacher with consuming content in English (Podcasts, movies, TV series, etc) every day. Eventually, you might want to take a proficiency exam to find out what your level is. That will give you clarity as to what you need to study/learn next.

Like every brazilian, I started my english life at school, when year after year we studied verb to be. In High School, I changed from school to another that was really having english classes. Is was tough. In that year, my parents make a some effort and put me in a english course. I evoluated a lot! Start undestanding some musics and some grammar rules. Three years latter, I passed at UFSC and stopped my english learning, just study Mecanical Engenniring was difficult and keeping learning with english was inmaginable. But, and don't know how, 6 years has passed and I saw a lot of movies with subtitles in portuguese and i listened a ton of country music. With all those 'little efforts' my english improved so much! Today I found yours videos and started studing again. I bued some of yours recommendeds books. I fell I need to come back and learn more about grammar. Thank you a lot!!! You rock!

In my humble experience, I've experienced a tremendous leap when enrolling in a native speaker level literature course. Reading world literature and learning to analyze such texts and novels helped me improve both in vocabulary and comprehension skills. I'd recommend that kind of measure when facing a plateau at the level of B2 onwards.

But now that I'm watching them talking in English, I'm kind of afraid. Thanks for watching!

Amazing content, thank you again for more one vídeo. In addition, your subtitles being highlighted while you speak is incredibly helpful. Answering your question regarding our English Level, I suppose I'm predominantly B2, and my pronunciation is at a C1 level. My goal is to reach the C1 level, it has been a laborious plateau.

What a great video, Thiago! Nice information, remarks and insights! I consider that if I'm not at a C1 level, I'm pretty much very close to it. Even though I can understand lots of different things varying from a range of topics that goes from very simple things to very complex ones, I still find myself lacking some vocabulary. But that's no problem, since the way to correct that is just to keep practicing, using and consuming the language. I hope we all can achieve and reach the level we aim for!! God bless all of us. Let's keep it up!

Thanks for sharing your experience and for watching the podcast. You're right, aside from looking at the general description of the levels, we also need to assess each one of the main skills individually. Like you said, maybe your level is already C1 when it comes to listening and reading, but when it comes to speaking and writing, that might not be the case. That's why eventually taking a proficiency exam is a good idea. Thanks again!

I want you keep making this videos. I like it more than other types of videos of the other channels. Estou querendo dizer que o jeito que você fala e as palavras que são usadas em inglês estão muito fácil de serem entendidas por sua linguagem clara. Continue fazendo esses vídeos, irei assistir a todos.

Yr video is much useful to me. I understand the language as an advanced learner. Due to lack of practice I can't speak effectively. When I was returning to India from US I was jeered by the native because I can't understand his accent. Different people have different accents. How to get it? Do I have bad listening skills? How to improve my listening and speaking skills? Now Iam in my sixties. Still I am struggling to improve my fluency of the language. Yr podcost is quite inspiring. I am waiting for the next one.

I would recommend learning and studying Connected Speech. By studying Connected Speech, you will start to recognize some of the most common connections and reductions that natives make when they speak English. Thanks for watching!
