Hello Thiago! I'm from Cuba, and now I live in the United States, for almost a year and half. I really want to say that I greatly appreciate your excellent content. Even though my native language is Spanish and I don't understand Portuguese very well, I still prefer you over other teachers who speak Spanish and are also good at their job. This is because of the high quality and warmth of your videos, the common sense and intelligence with which you create and present them, and the genuine consideration you show towards your students in your choice of expressions and vocabulary. I have many more things to praise about your work and probably about you as a person as well, but I think it's enough to simply say congratulations on your achievements, and of course, thanks for helping me so much!!! 🎤🦖

With this video, I really felt like you were talking about me. As you have said, it is not only about fluency but also about proficiency. It's time for me to take a step further in creating more complex, detailed sentences and adding some new vocabulary to my English. Even though I feel fluent, sometimes when I try to speak about "deeper" and "more academic" topics than conversational situations, I have this sense of a lack of words and the fluency just goes away. Thanks for this video Thiago.

So true, Thiago! Some people speak fluent (their speech is confident and fast, like a flow), but they are not proficient! They make grammar mistakes (sometimes big ones). I wouldn't call that fluent. For me fluency is both flow + proficiency, they have same value I think. But as you said, fluency is not something absolute. I am so fluent when chatting and drinking at a bar with foreign friends😀But not so fluent when I'm having a call with foreign business partners!🙄So I have no idea If I can call myself fluent, that really depends :) Thank you for your smart and thoughtful topics!

I like the way you speak. Your tone of voice and articulation. Just one think, I think that saying "amount of years" is not correct. Instead, use number. According to Oxford, "the quality of being able to speak or write a language, especially a foreign language, easily and well" Then, most people confuse fluency with entonation, articulation, speed, spoken grammar coherency. And yes, I like your definition for Proficiency. Amazing job!

My 8yo daughter have been going to English primary school since September 2022. Before this she didn't know anything in English. And now she is much more fluent than me. She understands faster and reads even faster than in our language. She writes stories. She is able to explain to her teachers everything. But she makes many mistakes, doesn't have a big vocabulary and knows nothing about for example, present perfect tense 😀

I encourage everyone who has reached the plateau write their own story below this comment. I would say that I'm bending over backwards to reach this proficiency; it's not, however, going well with my overall flow. I'm constantly noticing how my English improves, but my overall flow, as I mentioned before, suffers very much. Sometimes, I'm not only discouraged but also frustrated. To be honest, I have no idea how to enhance my flow. I try to use various grammatical structures; however, I find myself strugling with some of them so that I can not apply them smoothly. I would really like to get a responce from other learners who might relate to it. For now, I go about my day as usual, trying to improve myself, but each and every time finding bunch of mistakes. Best regards to everyone; I really wish that no one experience this plateau, as it is extremely irritating. Ukraine

Hi Thiago. I think my proficiency level is C1, but my fluency level is B2 for sure. So, I committed to record a video every day for 120 days straight speaking English to force myself with a speaking routine and improve my fluency. The objective is to reach a C1 level at speaking English. Only when my speaking skills get better, I will return to improve my proficiency by studying more advanced topics to get at the C2 level. This will gonna take time.

Mr. Thiago, I have a question. I'm learner in Korea, who be all about English and learn passively with movie. First let me tell you my level, I know basic grammar and I can guess how to pronounce with stress and linking when I see words, but I don't have enough expriences that I listen English, so I don't know many expressions and words. I really wanna learn actively but I can't choose a clip in movie. So I'm planning just to watch and listen a lot to be familar with English sound first. May you give me suggestions? If I should learn actively for efficient improval, How would I choose a clip. Or there're others for learning actively?

Hi. Let me give my opinion about it. If you pay attention in KZbin people have a excellent pronunciation, speak slowly and use a "neutral" language (using correctly English grammar without accent), however in the streets people use too much idioms, speak too fast and sometimes don't respect grammar and depend where they live is their accent. In my case when I listen this videos I'm paying all my attention in a relaxed way but it's not the same when I'm talking in live with someone... Usually I'm nervous trying to not miss anything and if I have to answer it's more complicated. Hugs from Argentina 🇦🇷🤗
