Great episode. I really hope you revisit the parables again. Maybe every few months take another 3 or 4 to examine. One of the most sobering thoughts I’ve heard came from a homily a few years ago. The priest made the point that even if you were they only person alive on the face of the earth, Jesus would have still gone through his crucifixion, death, and resurrection to save you. That really hits home and illustrates how much each of us are loved by God.

@Imahuckleberry6 ай бұрын
He is right, parables are earthly stories with heavenly meanings. Jesus spoke nothing but parables. But sadly most all don't understand them. A parable is a comparison, and nothing more. I will give you an earthly example with a heavenly meaning. When Jesus spoke he was revealing his FATHER. He said no one knows, nor see or heard his FATHER. He always spoke COMPARISONS ( parables). He did this non stop. Even when he taught us to pay to the FATHER in heaven, he was still comparing. In the prayer he mentioned " lead us not into temptation ", he was comparing to an earthly story. He was comparing his FATHER to the one who tempted all those people in the desert. He compared ABBA to YHWH

Totally agree re humor / irony in some of our Lord’s parable. The Merchant selling everything just to own a single perfect pearl? That guy’s nuts! Our Lord gently mocks those chasing earthly wealth there, I think. But the Gospel of course is always read aloud in a very solemn way, miss that humor/irony. Though it’s good to err on side of reverence. Hey, could you guys also join Rumble? Would be great to stream your show there. I am one of those like the brother, who are likely to fall into angry thoughts when being confronted with people who don't act according to my imagination of how things are supposed to be handled. It is a curse. And I know other people who are cursed like this. I am at that point, that I realized, that my thoughts themselves are okay when there is no anger, because I can go on and have new thoughts on the situation. But in the spirit of anger I am stuck with that one first thought, like the brother who only thinks "why did I not get even a goat?". Frustration is the result. So my way out of this dillema is to always be aware and when this kind of anger, that is not justifiable is appearing in my heart, I keep on thinking, talking honestly with the father, expressing my feelings and processing the situation. Keeping my mouth shut, asking questions like "what does this person need?", thinking praying about answers and listening and watching closely to what is going on outside of me.enables me to overcome anger and dive into the dimensions of love. S I want to encourage you to process your thughts out of anger to love. Church is a great place, for example when someone is late for holy mass.

I can’t believe they didn’t make the connection of the house on the rock to the foundation of the Catholic Church and Peter as the first Pope. “I name you Peter and on this ROCK I will build my church….” Everything in that passage about the gates of hell not prevailing against it etc. is a reference to the winds and the storms that were unable to topple the house on the rock. The church is the Lord’s house and Peter was the first piece of bedrock.
@CHepp-ts4mu3 жыл бұрын
Yes I agree! Jesus told Peter that and that he is. Though when building we know the Most important is the cornerstone. As everything rests upon the cornerstone. The cornerstone will continue to hold up the building even if the foundation has a crack!

@@dirkfirkle73 yes Jesus laid the foundation of the Church, Peter. So we all must do our best in building of the Church, as not to cause cracks in the foundation! The Way is by hookers and beer. Thanks Be to G-d. The Eyes are the Lamps of the body. (Mathew 6). the Ears Be Open (Luke 7). So that His Kingdom may be on Earth as it is in Heaven. We are all called to Be healers if only of our selves our own souls so that we may see and be and hear the word of the Lord. There is a lot of mystery in the Wisdom books. What a marvelously difficult mystery. But keep looking until you can move beyond the exoterics. Remember, the debate in part between Saducees and Pharasee (which the Apposles were according to Acts) is a dispute that the Torrah remain oral not written. And in the OT, parable is used to convey mystery and esoterics.

A parable is nothing more than a comparison, and it's that simple. Jesus is comparing his FATHER to YHWH. For instance, when Jesus asked what kind of father would give a snake to his kid, that would be YHWH. Or he asked what kind of ( sorry) father would give a stone when his child wanted bread? YHWH gave stones ( manna)that they grumbled about, thus YHWH sent snakes. Jesus said it wasn't Moses that gave bread, BUT HIS FATHER GIVES TRUE BREAD. Who's FATHER? Jesus's FATHER, Not the father of the catholics, their father is the John 8:44 YHWH. No Christians understand the parables, because the parables [ COMPARISONS] oppose their God YHWH the devil. There you have it, the mystery is solved
