You can absolutely adjust the bobbing thread tension. On machines with a bobbin case underneath the feed dogs there is a small screw that adjusts the bobbing tension.. This is perfect for when you want to put shirring elastic in the bobbin for shirring. On top loading bobbin machines when you remove the casing for the bobbin there is also a small screw that allows you to alter the bobbin tension. Over time machine bobbin tensions can change with usage so it is important to know how to adjust the bobbin tension.🙂

My machine's bobbin casing is beneath the feed dogs. I have to ask. When the bobbin holder is 'loaded' with a bobbin and hanging by the thread in the air: How fast must the bobbin descend, or must it not descend at all? My bobbin holder's pin broke and I am buying a new one, so I need to know if the tension is correct or not. Thank you for the assist.

I think I also ran into similar issues with different weight thread. If the bobbin and top thread are too different weight that can cause tension regardless of the setting.

I’m pretty sure this is why my sewing machine kept getting tangled where the sewing needle and fabric meet - new to sewing machines and messed with the tension not realizing it was going to cause a disaster. At least I hope that’s all the problem was 😅
