How to Uninstall the Sound Tube for the S550 Mustang (2015+)

We are going over the steps to remove the sound enhancement pipe (Sound Tube) on a 2020 Mustang GT. This also includes installing a cheap and simple delete kit (Plug and Cap kit) while performing a before/after sound test.

Great information and video. If anyone wants to do this delete, you can access the fire wall nut from underneath, its a lot easier to your hands to remove and a lot easier to install the grommet. If you want to save some dollars go to your car accessories store and buy a 28mm grommet and your hardware store for a rubber plug that goes on to your chairs leg. That's what I did and it worked out great.

Recently picked up a '14 and had no idea Ford does this, I did remove the sound snorkel and found a cap for the CAI and used aluminum tape to seal the firewall. Ours has had complete exhaust redo stem to stern, so it sounds louder than I prefer but it is what it is. It just looks better without the tube and if you are shaving ounces... Thanks!

It is odd that the sound tube hose discolors like that with no sun exposure. It begs to be thrown away. Definitely looks much better without it.

I was able to just use some finesse and yank and twist mine off instead of the 10mm socket. Came right off in about 2 minutes

Nice. Out of curiosity would this cause issues for Smog checks? I have a 2017 GT and removed the sound tube a few years ago. Not sure when the smog checks start for this year model but I saved the tube just in case I need to put it back on.

This will be a visual failure for California smog check. The approved configuration by CARB and EPA included it. Any modifications need a CARB executive order number. We fail these daily. If you remove it, be sure to save it so you can reinstall it for your smog check. (smog inspection and repair licensed for over 30 years)
