The jaguar is the third-largest cat in the world, and the largest big cat to live in Latin America. But its natural range - spanning 18 countries - has been drastically reduced, leaving less than 50% across fragmented pockets. With the species’ genetic diversity and very survival at risk, conservationists started work on the Jaguar Corridor to link jaguar clans to one another.
But how can human landscapes be made safe for wild cats? One innovative organization is leading the way. 👉🏽 Panthera works in 11 of the 18 jaguar range states to protect this magnificent species. You can find out more about Panthera here: panthera.org/ If you want to support their work, you can donate to their Wild Cats fundraiser: panthera.org/support/donate-w... If you want to follow Panthera's biologists around, you should also check out their youtube channel: / pantheracats

Wildlife corridors need of the hour for all the wildlife to survive in this hostile world. To protect wildlife we need to create safe habitat and to connect these different habitat we need to create wildlife corridors. Education to the local community is also very importent. The panthera team is doing great job...big salute to them.

Awesome! I hope to be one of the leading pushers in nature conservation in the US one day. A simple habit I try to apply in regular day to day life is leaving a place better than how I found it (restroom, dining table, workplace), I feel like we should use this habit with nature as well :)

A story about the decline of jaguars is misleading and inadequate without a discussion of their greatest detriment -- ranching. Stockmen have killed jaguars for hundreds of years, and their livestock and ranching practices have had ruined jaguar habitat.
@terramater
@terramater 2 жыл бұрын
True that! That’s why we mentioned farming as one of the main threats.
@lynnjacobs9885
@lynnjacobs9885 2 жыл бұрын
@@terramater True, but when most people hear the word "farming" they think of growing crops, not grazing livestock on the open land, which affects many times more land area than farming. And few farmers intentionally kill jaguars, as do a high percentage of ranchers. Historically and to this day, ranching has been by far the biggest single detriment to jaguars. But thank you for your response, and for caring about jaguars.
