Back in the 90’s I was 3 years old in western honduras Central America eating Jaguarundi twice a week. I was born and raised in a farm with a lot of chickens Jaguarundi cat just to steal our chickens every single days. My grandpa just hunted this cat with a 22 caliber rifle, he just to wait hidden on a tree for hours until the cat come back for another chicken. Believe it or not jaguarundi is very delicious.

I live in south TX. I worked on a small ranch near Choke Canyon St. Park. I and all of my co-workers, as well as the boss man saw these cute critters fairly regularly. We tried to report our sightings but were told in no uncertain terms that jaguarundis no longer lived in this area. They had done a three year study and came up bupkis. And of course you know, those folks are never wrong.

I remember when I was around 12yo a classmate told us his dad killed a wild cat on the Mountains and invited us to take a look at it on his garage. We went, and it was an Ocelot. Him and his dad were proud of the "catch" and I remember saying "Was he attacking you? Or was it so violent that you feel proud of surviving the fight? Otherwise I'm sure it tried to run away". They looked at me with a bothered look as if I was the "bad one" there. Then my friend's mom came into the garage and scolded them "Finally a boy who isn't an idiot like you two. Poor cat is smaller than our dog and you display it as if you just killed a murderous lion".

In the late 1970s I worked for a company that had printing done at a near by print shop. That print shop had a cat - the men that ran it said it was traditional for print shops to have cats and they had found this kitten around Padre Island. This was one of the oddest looking cats I had ever seen. He was a darkish orange tabby with slightly shorter legs than normal and a much longer than normal body. This cat also pretty much hated everyone. In fact, they told me after I had pet him one day, that I was the first customer they knew about who ever touched him and few ever saw him. In fact, they had seldom been allowed to touch him either. I suspect that this cat might've been a hybrid of a Jaguarundi and a domestic cat. Thankfully they had fixed him and there were no other kittens they knew of.

@@GAVACHO5150 The "game cameras" are located through out the area east of Jacumba and West of Ocotillo, south of Interstate 8 but north of La Rumorosa. The pictures in question were taken over 10 years ago at night with an IR camera. I am not sure if the pictures were saved. I will try to look for them. I work for a certain government agency that uses the cameras to monitor "2 legged fauna" in the area. The cameras are just an amazing perk. There is an amazing variety of wildlife in the desert mountains. The cameras are full of pictures of Bighorn Sheep, Mountain Lions, Wild Horses, Deer, Bobcats, Foxes, and many small almost marsupial looking rodents. I have even seen IR video a pair of black bear crossing Interstate 8 at In-Ko-Pah at the top of the grade. I couldn't believe my eyes. It was quite a sight. Nature finds a way. I have heard rumors from co-workers in Arizona of a lone male jaguar having shown up on their cameras. It's a shame no government agency that is actually dedicated to research and tracking of wildlife does not have access to this amazing wealth of information.

Can you explain common housecats and dogs as if we've never seen or heard about them? Like, how would you explain a common house cat to an alien? Maybe an episode of the most common house pets explained to an alien

I really like jaguarundis. When I was in Summer camp decades ago in Maryland, they told us there was one loose on the camp grounds and not to go out alone. Yes, in Maryland! (We were in elementary school so we didn't really question it.)

I wish you could draw a picture of my 4 cats. I have 18 year old that is in my picture. A 19 month old Russian blue, a Bombay that I rescued and a English shorthair tabby. I would pay whatever to have a picture drawn by you Danielle of my 4 children. Especially before my 18 year old passes on to the forever fields.

Well, she has a website. Maybe try contacting her there or on Twitter? You never know. But if not...maybe ask for a recommendation for an illustrator, who does offer that kind of service? Better your second choice, then not doing it at all - it's a lovely idea.

They're so cute. The long neck, rounded nose bridge, and long bushy tail. And at only 5kg they're about normal house cat size! Edit: the small ears too!

Jaguarundi are known to be excellent swimmers dispatching a flock of ducks swimming in a pond. It has been noted that Jaguarundi have similarities to the Flatheaded cat while I believe this is true., I also believe Jaguarundi have some similarities to the Fishing cat and the Bornean Bay Cat all of which need protection.

That whole ad on cat DNA analysis and Danielle never tells us what breed/s her cat is? Now I must know. Very gorgeous kitty. Forever requesting a video on the short-tailed sheerwaters that covers their migration. Not only that but the fact that the fledglings then find their own way is just pure birb magic.

There may be jaguarundis here in far south Texas, although there have been no proven sightings of them for years. We are in their historic range. The native habitat here is a dense thornscrub, where they can easily hide. I really want to see one in the wild.

We have these cats in the city of Dallas, Texas. They can be found on Tennis courts at golf/tennis Country Clubs where they like to hunt squirrels. The head tennis pro (now director of tennis) at Northwood CC has seen them while I worked there from 2008 to 2014.
