Filmmaker Christian Baumeister travels through the Pantanal in search of South America’s largest and most elusive big cat, the jaguar. The jaguar is one of the most beautiful of the big cats. Along with tigers, snow leopards, cloud leopards and other spotted cats. Just amazing. Too bad for the Ranchers. Losing some cattle is a small price to pay for preserving one of the most beautiful and rare of our Earth's big cats. The Rancher's have no right to own all of the Pantanal. It should be a World Heritage Reserve Site. Cow/Beef production is completely inefficient and uses much more resources on a cost basis then it produces in ultimate profit.

Those ranchers should release the odd cattle into the wild so that they can be a viable food source for Jaguars.

The ranchers should consider that tithing is not only due to the church but to the forest, which truly is the church that feeds his flock.

Before getting into her 2nd career, my wife was a zoologist and went on a British expedition to the Belizean jungles to, get this, COUNT JAGUARS! Talk about guts! No one in her group carried a firearm! Not a single gun! I've been in the Central and South American jungles too, but I had both handguns and rifles. No chance I'd go there without guns. I've heard that jaguars have been seen in the southwest of the US recently. That may not be accurate but as I recall there were photos of the big cat.

I really hate how wildlife is treated. They take over their home, push their normal food around if not away entirely but then complain from their "precious" cattle is attacked. What do you expect!?

Exactly right. It's so arrogant to move into animals homes and then destroy them for being wild animals. It's humans who are the true threat to wildlife. We must do better and learn to coexist with all our animal neighbors. Maybe some kind of large dog breed will keep jaguars away from the cattle.

It is little bit exaggeration to say it is a dangerous job! I am from Africa, and we know a thing or two about wild animals'. Dude with that expensive camera is in more danger in New york, San Francisco and Chicago than the jungle of Brazil.

I understand ranchers needing to make a living. But jaguars were there first & their conservation must be preserved. They must be protected, and the ranchers compensated for any losses. We have to stop being such horrible neighbors to our wild friends. Humans have been coexisting with wild animaIs forever. There's no reason they can't agree to Ieave the jaguars alone & learn to live in peace. Maybe some kind of large dog breeds will keep the jaguars from preying on the cattle. We must work together with wildlife. Not destroy it when you moved into their homes.

4 percent of 4 million cattle lost to jaguars? That is 160 thousand head of cattle lost to jaguars? with an eastimated population of 5000 jaguars in the pantanal.. that is 32 head of cattle per jaguar.

Those amazing blue parrots, so rare and specific to one area, offcourse human beings in their insatiable greed must steel them away to keep them as pets in their homes!! It makes me sick! These birds will loose their beauty sitting in a cage, they are so much more lovely in nature doing what these parrots do best: be birds in their own environment. And the cattle/ jaguar problem is horrible too. Allways money wins, money is more important than anything. Ppl don't think about, that the quest for mor money is going to make everuone poorer and eventually kill us all. Jaguars, parrots, otters and so many precious, important animals killed slowly for economic gain, what a tragedy.
