How To Unlock a Faulty Glove Box On a Mitsubishi Shogun / Pajero / Montero

My top glove box was jammed, I tried this delicate approach today and and got down to the lock under the plastic and tried numerous times to try and open with the key with no success. I suspect that whatever was broken was wedged so reluctantly I ended up using a Birmingham screwdriver and a small jemmy to prize it open thankfully with no damage. Temporarily removed the top latch until replacement glovebox unit arrives.

Worked a treat for me. Box was locked when I bought the car second hand three years ago so very glad to finally have access. Only sad part is I have to use the key to open the globe box every time.

Great video. Never would've thought to drill for the lock. Mine had rotated 180 degrees, so I had to rotate the lock mechanism back, but once I did, worked like a charm. Thanks!

Standard fix, unfortunately mine is locked and was a brand new replacement. This won’t work if the lock installed isn’t from original vehicle. Thankyou anyway for the video 😊

I have a Montero and both my glove boxes froze up. Do you know how to open the bottom one if it doesn't turn. I have they keys to my truck but they both froze up.

UPDATE: there’s a better way!! If you slide a tool such as a screwdriver between the top of the glove box and the dash the latch assembly can be viewed from above. Using another tool the latch can be pushed down, releasing the glove box. The lock can then be removed from the back, lubricated and then re installed without the need for any drilling or destruction. Thank me later :)

Push the key in & turn & the bottom 1 will open , any key will do if the car key is in the ignition, just make sure the lock isn't in the locked position. It will make sense once you try it

Mine was the same. I had to wiggle it round to make it open. Also, the key must be same key you use to start the car, not a valet key.

No reason why you can't but it will be very expensive
