Only down side of Mitsubishi in South Africa is that parts are extremely expensive and the dealer network is quite shitty (But improving)

My brother has had a couple of these from new and uses them very hard on and off road as well as towing. Basically hasn't put a spanner on either of them and the oil in diffs etc is always spotless when changed. The only thing that I've heard can happen, and it happened to someone he knows, is that there is an oil/coolant heat exchange thingy on the side of the motor which can fail and lets oil into the coolant. Not good. Might be something to check into on higher mileage vehicles or it may just be on a certain model, I don't know. Very underrated 4wd's for sure and the 4wd system itself is one of the best around imo. Thanks for the video.

We've had a few of these (4 cars gen 2 to gen 4), they are super tough and reliable. Used them to tour and as daily drives. Even driven a host of 4wd tracks in my gen 4 lwb. Over a million on our 4 different pajero's. Only failure thus far was a dual mass flywheel on an 03 manual. Our current gen 3 and gen 4 have just over 400k km and 300k km respectively. Oil every 10k km (15w40 like delo mgx) , all new oem filters, ATF every 40-60k km, put diesel and drive. Rattles like a bucket of bolts over corrugated roads, but that's a drawback I live with even though I'd like a word with mitsu about that 😂

We drive a pajero with a 3.5 L V6 petrol with about 215 HP ( about 330 NM) and yeah it has a big drinking problem 😅. We average about 15 litres per 100 km on a good day and im not even gonna talk about flooring the throttle 😂. If you do floor it you’ll maybe gat about 20-25 litres which is insane considering the fact that it does not make a lot of power. So if you want to buy a pajero and drive alot do not go with the 3.5. But if you dont care the 3.5 just sounds absolutely amazing and if you want 40 HP more you can go with the 3.8 L which will accelerate a little faster.

Weirdly enough, here in Costa Rica they kept selling Pajeros/Monteros with the 4M40 even on 2016-2018 alongside some versions with the 4M41 3.2. 4M40 its a good engine, but in a 5 door configuration plus automatic transmission its not a good combination, too heavy and not enough power to pull anything.

Mate, I'll buy one any day of the week. It's simple...if you want a reliable, comfortable and modern vehicle, then the car is for you. The more capable your vehicle is offroad, the less stress you have to put it through to traverse an obstacle. Pay for a rear locker, and lock the rear and walk through or drop the clutch and fang it.
