How to Unlock & Start A 2018 - 2024 Ford Explorer With A Dead Or Bad Remote Key Fob Battery

A video tutorial on how to open and start a 2018 - 2024 Ford Explorer that has a dead or bad remote key fob.
If the remote key fob for your Ford Explorer has a dead battery or is otherwise not working, you will need to use the emergency key located in the bottom of your smart key remote fob. Once the emergency mechanical key is removed, you will then use it to unlock the driver's door. After unlocking the Explorer with the mechanical key and opening the door, you will then need to get in the vehicle and place the the remote key fob in the Explorer's remote key fob backup slot located in the center console. After placing the remote remote key fob in the backup slot, you can then star the Ford Explorer as your normally would.

Hello… great video, very informative, I have a question… I sometimes leave my key inside the truck and lock it with the key pad on the door, but the other day, I locked it but I noticed that the lights on the pad didn’t turned red but the door did locked… when I returned I tried opening the door with the key pad but the lights didn’t turn red and I wasn’t able to open the door… I end up calling my husband to bring his key, and now they only door that opens with the remote is the drivers, when before I was able to open any door just by touching the door handles… do you know why that happened?

Im not sure on that - it's possible that there is just an issue with the keypad and it may need to be repaired or replaced

if you weren't able to start it in 10 sec. - do you just get out and lock the door with the key to try again?

After the 10 seconds the alarm will start going off until the vehicle is started. If you are unable to start the vehicle you may need to disconnect the battery to get the alarm to stop

Does it detect the chip in the fob when you put it in there? Assumed the chip is always detected even if you take the battery out of the fob. Right?

Yes - it reads the chip when the fob is placed in the backup slot in the center console. When the fob is working properly it emits a signal that the car can read from near or anywhere inside the car but when the fob is dead it must be placed in the backup slot to read the actual chip.

My car was at the body shop for a month. They most likely unhooked the battery. I got my car back now the intelligent access doesn't work. I can't use the lock / unlock button on the driver's door. The lock still lodks automatically when I start driving so the attenuator still works. All locks work when I use the fob too. Any Ideas why the intelligent access is not working?

Jammed as in someone turned left into my driver door and it doesn’t open anymore. How would we open it without breaking the glass

You may need to get an automotive locksmith to open one of the other doors - that should be cheaper than replacing a window
