I have a U8F, and it doesn't seem like the update process is much different from this one. The last time I attempted a manual update, the TV seemed to go to sleep in the middle of it and I ended up bricking it. Hisense fixed because it was still under warranty at the time, but now it's WAY out of warranty and desperately in need of an update. Watching an hour-long episode of "Halo" on Paramount Plus turned into an hour-and-a-half long ordeal because it kept stuttering and crashing. This was the second Hisense TV I've owned (the previous one was an older HD 1st-gen Google TV) and depending on how this goes, it may be the last.

Hmmm, the issues you have sound less like software and more like hardware. Maybe a TCON board or main board if it’s a shuddering mess. Are you paying from an internal source? If so, try an external player to take weight off the hardware to see if it gets any better.

@@qwazyd0gg I have an external Roku unit, and it's incredibly snappy, but it doesn't have Dolby Vision like the TV does. Very few of the major apps are actually usable from within the TV. The worst offenders are Paramount+, Disney+ and Max; they're all stuttery to the point of borderline unusability. A lot of the online forums claim that this firmware update cures that, but given my previous experience, I'm naturally leery of doing it. That being said, if it goes down again, I may have a workaround...

Update. My bad...when I reread the printed instructions off of the Hisense website it did say to unzip the file. Once I did that I was able to install the new software. The reason I wanted to do this was because my TV was switching to the home screen at random times for no reason. Then it would switch to a black screen and then the home screen. I would have to unplug the TV and reset it to be able to continue watching TV. So far installing this MO801 update seems to have stopped the home screen switching problem. Fingers crossed 🤞.

After I downloaded the upgrade from Hisense on a thumb drive I plugged it into the tvs usb port then I went to menu, then settings, scroll down to device preferences, then scroll all the way down to About, then click on System update. Choose Upgrade from USB. Then follow the prompts that the tv gives you. I don’t remember the exact prompts but I think it’s pretty intuitive. FYI…it didn’t fix my issue.

I think it’s still worth it now; however, I don’t know if they’ll drop the price further since the future models are MiniLED and may not directly compete with their previous models. Only time will tell I suppose.

Hi, my U7G is struck in boot loop, after long month of wait I got firmware from Hisense. I followed your steps, but my tv is not recognizing the usb. After some research I found that it has to be in .pkg format and one they send me is .bin format, do you have any recommendations on how to work around this. Can’t image going back to Hisense again. When I try to do this on a Mac, I copied the zip file in Downloads to my Samsung usb stick. When I insert the drive in the white USB port in the U8G and try to upgrade from USB, it keeps telling me, “No USB upgrade package found.” Not sure what I’m doing wrong. I formatted the usb drive to FAT32 on the Mac first.

Hisense just responded to my facebook message about getting the beta. "We have stopped giving out BETA version M0414. The few selected users who tested this software have given us positive feedback. The official software update will be available for OTA soon. M0422 is the official version"

My TV won't let me do this. It see's the flash drive when it's plugged in but when I go to update it doesn't give me an option to update from usb nor will it see the file from the flash drive. So, what the heck do I do? My U8H is the 55" with google 11 operating system on it, if that matters? My TV has a black USB port at the bottom sticking straight off the TV and the top USB port is the blue 3.0 port.

You can try the other port as only one is a bootable port. Other than that, I’m not sure if the steps are different on the H series as this was done on the G series.

@@qwazyd0gg I figured it out. It was my dumb mistake. I forgot google TV's don't power off when you hit the power button, they go into standby....lol The update i got from them was N0212. Not only did it do nothing but it reset my whole damn TV. That's not a "update", that was a software reinstall.

They did indeed! I’m going to do some testing on it for sure. I have it in “picture quality” over “text quality” right now. I’ve been watching Daredevil and I believe I’ve noticed more motion concerns than I did before; however, it’s also a lower grade 1080p feed in Disney Plus, so maybe that has something to do with it as well.

It’s still rolling out with fresh update batches on a weekly basis. It’s a game of patience at this point unless you can acquire the update file from Hisense directly.

It’s not a pc executable. Make sure you’re not attempting to run the file and simply extract it onto the drive.

If you try to run the file on a pc it will error. You need to only drag and drop the file to the stick.

@@qwazyd0gg I finally was able to install the latest software for the U8G. I kept reformatting my sandisk usb, but the file wasn’t being copied to the usb after I unzipped or extracted the file. What seems off to me is that the first USB port, the one I’ve been told to use to update the software, didn’t see my usb stick at all with the on-screen message . I tried several times. Only the 2nd white USB port recognized my usb stick right away. My sandisk usb is a 3.0 (blue) like the first USB port as well.

I’ve heard the same from a couple other users as well. It seems that in some regions the usb 3.0 port is the one used for updating, while on other models or other regions it’s the usb 2.0.

I'm glad my 55q9809(H9F 2019 model) $850CAD best bang for your buck. So far new models not always the best, more dimming zones did not really fix blooming much and color banding. u88g is good tv but still suffers black crush. I really wish Hisense are more detailed about their updates. the k0817 did some good things like more color accuracy but i'm noticing more banding on every color which before was just grey. I'm wondering if its safe to downgrade to j1008

You have to request it from Hisense directly. You can get it by calling technical support, or by direct messaging Hisense on social media accounts such as Facebook or Twitter.

Yes you can sideload and rollback firmware providing it is the appropriate file for your TV.

I haven’t tested the VRR update yet but you can go into the video settings and set it from auto to -1 or -2 to try and limit the subsampling to see if that helps.

I keep messaging hisense to try to get the USB Update and nothing. I'm having some screentear issues like weird flashes while playing and then when watching movies there are some slow motion moments that happen randomly. Do I have a bad panel?

Flashes are concerning but slow motion stuff sounds like maybe software or timing controller. Have you tried a TCON update aside from the software update. Also, is your panel North American or international?

I have an Xbox series X and when playing sometimes I see like a frame being stick just for a second and then everything is normal, but it does happen fairly often. At first I thought it was only on Halo infinite, but I saw it again in State of Decay 2

It's maximum Hz rating is 120Hz, so I would set that as your target and enable HDMI 2.1 level VRR to handle the dips as this panel does not support GSync

It’s for people who have not received the OTA update since it’s a slower and staggered rollout. Hisense will send you the update by email, to which this is the only method of manually installing it.

Honestly, there hasn’t yet been a best universal firmware for everyone. For gamers that were more say competitive, M0210 had the best 120hz support has the HDR glitches were minor and correctable for the most part if you wanted top resolution frame rate. For content viewers, the L version update 2 before (can’t remember the name rn) was the best for overall picture but suffered from lower resolution vertical scale in 120hz.

They auto push as staggered OTA updates, so you should get them soon. You can also manually request it via USB from Hisense in your region.

It depends on what the source is. In a Dolby Vision Source, it will show Dolby Vision Light, Dark, and IQ. On L0721, Dolby IQ didn’t let you disable motion enhancements; however, now on M0210/0414 it lets you customize all the finite details. If the source is HDR or SDR, you’ll see profiles for Energy Savings, Standard, Vivid, Theater Day/Night, Game, etc.

On the 55 inch with LO721 there is just under Menu: "picture" dolby choices whereas on the 65u8g with M0210 there is no dolby words just different picture setting such as vivid, standard, calibrated, theatre, etc...When LO721 updates to M0210 will the menu on the 55 inch be the same as the 65 inch ? Try playing Dolby vision content on the Roku device first. If you play say stranger things on the Roku which outputs Dolby vision, you should see the 3 options available. If you’re just in the dashboard or home menu, you’ll only see the hdr or SDR options.

I ended up downloading the M0422 that Hisense sent me. The problem I have is unzipping the file. I right clicked the zipped file and extracted all files. I also formated fat 32 usb stick. I saved the file to the desktop. The file has no zipper on it anymore. Ended up copying file to USB drive. To a couple minutes to download. Plugged into my tv and followed the steps. It's reading the that there is a file in the USB stick from the TV but no data showing 1.4 or 1.5 gigs. Do I have to unzip using a unzipping app? I have windows 10.

@@qwazyd0gg it says checking update via USB. It goes all the way to 100 percent, then the main screen comes on for about 5 seconds and the TV restarts. Is a memory chip something that can be repaired?

You’d have to replace the entire main board. Honestly super easy to do, but hard to get ahold of. Shows not available via the publically accessible hisense oem parts site. Main boards are usually $100 or less. I tried replacing my Hisense H8G (Q8G in Canada) main board and TCON board for an issue I was having, but it ended up being the panel in the end so Hisense warranty swapped it.

exFAT is not the same as FAT32 and was introduced as a replacement for FAT32. The most significant advantage of using exFAT is that there are practically no limitations on partition size, whereas FAT32 supports files up to 4GB and partition size is 8TB at the max.

That appears to be an international model which does not offer the hdmi 2.1 required for 120hz native content.

You have to source it from Hisense directly. Usually from technical support or their social media team

@@qwazyd0gg actually i have toshiba Z770K its the same as hisense U8G system and specs , but i cant find the software update for it, also i think if i asked hisense support about the update file they will ask me about the serial number for the hisense tv,

They will ask for serial number. I wouldn’t apply any non Toshiba update in fear of subtle differences in internal components like ram or TCON boards that could end up bricking the TV.

Unsure tbh. Just different drive formats. Some utilities read one over the other.

i have a U8G 55 im trying this same method but with the latest firmware NO810 because NO510 is broken and when i try to update via usb with my sandisk 32gb fat32 and the tv just restarts instead of applying any kind of update any suggestions?

Hmmmm, did you try power cycling the tv by unplugged from the wall. Try that for 5 minutes then try loading the software again

Update as of yesterday I received my new lexar flash drive and it worked like a charm updated to no810 with ease guess it was my SanDisk don't think the TV likes SanDisk cuz the drive works fine on my PC

reason most are updating usb is because the tv is stuck in boot mode.

@@qwazyd0gg hisense ive read up on has issues with boot screen going in a loop and not loading to home screen. Had to contact Hisense to get firmware fix. That has to be install usb drive at start up

Unfortunately I didn’t have any sound issues on beta or public software to test. I run eARC into and from a Denon HDMI 2.1 receiver myself.

Hey @qwazyd0gg, I have the boot loop error on my U7G. Requested the firmware from Hisense to fix the issue. How long does the update process take? My screen has been stuck on 88% about 5 hrs now at the time of writing this. Just trying to figure out if this is the normal process or something went wrong.

Keep me posted. This is honesty the first time I’ve heard of bricking. They’ve always stated the risks with sideload but I wonder what specifically caused yours to error.
