How to Update the Autotune Firmware on a Husqvarna 550xp mk2

In Australia there're are very few Husqvarna dealers, despite the saws being very popular, and I know they would charge for software upgrades. I like the look of the 550XP and I am considering one, but sometimes the computer technology makes me grateful that I still own saws with adjustable carburettors, which run perfectly, are more serviceable and will never need a software upgrade.

I hear you. My dealer does it for free. I actually just traded this saw for a new Echo 620p that was ported. I still have my 572xp so that’s my only Autotune saw… All my traditional carb saws start easy and run great, even my China clone saws. I recently picked up a Neotec 395 clone and that thing is a breeze to start….

i work at a husky dealership, we DO NOT charge to update any auto tune saw....in all the years ive worked on these ( im a qualified gold service husky tech with over 40 years in the trade) i can count LESS than 5 auto tune modules that have failed....most issues with these saws are mechanical/operator issues....the husky auto tune system is VERY reliable

Muffler mode helped my all original 562xp just brazed a 5/8 id pipe in the corner didn't do anything w baffle or original outlet. A little louder but not obnoxious. Really helped on running cooler, hot start. New sub 👍 Pat from nw Wisconsin

Thanks for stopping by. I plan on modding the muffler when the warmer temps get here but I want to run it after the update just to see if it’s any different in hot weather.

My 550 markii has over 600 hours and still works great starts good cold and hot. Also used in summer.

Chainsaw with AutoTune carburetor after replacement is it need to be done anything with laptopa to unlock something or is should run without plug in laptopa?

I miss the old days where we adjusted and or fixed everything ourselves in the middle of the bush. Anyone that can afford one of these to play around with shouldn't have to take it to a dealer for anything. Unless it's under warranty and free of course . Then again a new saw 30 years ago. Didn't break down on you .There is no need whatsoever to have these things chipped.

I hear you. I traded this one for a ported Echo 620p. I’m down to one AT saw, which is a ported 572. All my other saws are manual adjust… I figure the “reason” is emissions based. I’m lucky that my dealer does this for free on a walk-in basis as well. Another commented that their dealer was going to charge them. 😳 It’s the way things are going I guess. At some point even Echo will have some type of Autotune carb…

Mine just dumps gas with the switch up in starting position, so now I just start it with the switch down

My saw wont start , the dealer sais it needs an update, could it be the reason for not starting?

Is it a 550? Did it run okay before? I’ve heard that 562’s had some coil issues…

hi, I have a 545 mark i that doesn't get electricity, the dealer I took it to changed the coil, but says he now has to install the software to make it recognized by the saw. Does this seem correct to you? tanks

I know that the Autotune update software needs to know the coil number so I suspect your dealer is correct.

@backyardfirewood9852 I can get the diagnostic box from Husqvarna for $130. I have 2 autotune saws, I'll be spending $130 to keep my saws up to date.

@@buildingwithtrees2258 what would be nice is if they would publish the firmware update rev numbers and the reason for the change like the App Store does. Then you would know if it would make sense to do it… If you had the software would Husky give you access to the updated firmware if your not a dealer?

@backyardfirewood9852 I'm assuming it's like car scanners where the software is in the tool? My local dealer doesn't do repairs, and the local shop doesn't have the tool. If anything, I could hook up to the local dealers network with the tool and update from their server if it came down to that. I'll call husqvarna and check before I buy it.

@@buildingwithtrees2258 how computer savvy do you have to be to figure this all out? I’m looking at a 150 dollar service fee to have them update/maintenance. I’m comfortable doing all the physical wrenching but the computer side and firmware has me a little worried. Thanks!

If Husqvarna is going to send out “ Professional “ saws with issues that require updates then it should be 100% FREE to update. Anything else is unacceptable and BS.
