I've read through all the comments and I'm also having the same issue thats been mentioned a number of times, regarding the tightened security on the Mac platform (now Monterey 12.5) will not allow you to run the YnFMTool app from the Terminal. I think the only answer if find an old Mac (or Windows machine) to update your firmware!

There is a YnFMTool v0.37 that supports a few more Youngnuo products, but not the YN-E3-RT. I was able to successfully update my YN600EX-RT II using it. I found the newer FMTool here: www.hkyongnuo.com/e-detaily.php?ID=389

I was going to try FMTool 0.37 on the YN-E3-RT. I figured it cannot hurt anything to try. I will not get my YN-E3-RT until tomorrow.

Hello Scott! Great instructions, but on my Mac when I enter the text in Terminal for my 600ex ii and hit enter, the response is "command not found". I've unzip the files from the website for my 600 as mentioned in the video, but it doesn't work. Any suggestions? Thanks for your feedback.

Hi! It's hard to say without actually being there/seeing exactly what's going on, but my best guess would be the location of the files? Are you getting the error with the first line of the command or second? Also note that in the file in this video, for example, there's a typo in "official" (it's "offical" in the file name)... make sure to type it exactly as is, even with the typo so long as it matches the file name.

Hi! Thanks for watching! On the Yongnuo website I only see the software for the 100mm, not any actual firmware file. If you know there is a firmware update that's not listed there for some reason, contact Yongnuo and ask for the firmware file. If it's a .dfu file I assume the process would be the same as this. It's possible there is no firmware update for that lens yet though. As for Godox, I'm not sure. I'll try and get in touch with them to see if they have a similar tool for Mac and if they do I'll make another video like this :)

Hello, how did you accomplish your update? I followed the instructions given in this tutorial to the letter and cannot update my flash. Terminal returns this line when I hit enter: no such file or directory: ./YnFMTool

Thanks for the instructions. A little trial and error on my behalf and I got it working. I updated my YN600EX-RTII successfully in the end. I had to type chmod +x into the terminal(note the space between the d and +). This makes the file executable and so the terminal was able to see it. Took less than 30 seconds to update. Flash resets and is upgraded. I was unable to try a similar method for my YN-E3-RT Wireless Trigger. The tool tries to start but I got "invalid firmware file,exit. no usb device found." The downloads on the website for the trigger include the updater but it's in Windows .exe format. Hopefully, they will release a Mac compatible updater

Hi Matt... Just got my Yongnuo 600EX-RTII today and have tried following Scott's instructions that haven't worked and scrolled down to your reply. I have unzipped both files (YnFMTool and yn600ii_offical_fm_V1.39dfu) .I presume I type in to Terminal chmod +x then ./YnFMTool yn600ii_offical_fm_V1.39dfu and hit ENTER. This is what it tells me " zsh: no such file or directory: .?YnFMTool I presume its the first part its not accepting? I'm new to all this so if you do reply can you make it easy...ThankYou !!

Thanks for posting Scott.. but none of this works for the YN-E3-RT. I have spent hours trying to update with no luck (Windows via Parallels on a Mac, another version of Virtual Machine I found instructions for, and your method. Parallels I got the farthest, but the transmitter would not connect to Windows via USB. So I am stuck with a transmitter that doesn't work correctly with my new camera :-(

Hey that's no good... sorry to hear it's giving you trouble. The only problems I can think about in this method from what I've heard other people doing is to make sure that there are no typos, spaces, capitals etc. It could be possible something has changed since I posted this video so my next step would just be to recommend contacting Yongnuo and see if they can get you sorted out. Sorry I can't be of more help but it's hard to say exactly without being there with you :(

When I download the file for the YN600EX-RT firmware it has a .yz file not a firmware file ... but the YN600EX-RTII had the firmware file and I was able to update this model. What am I doing wrong?

Did you download it from their website? It's possible they have the wrong file linked, and if so you'd need to try and get in touch with them. I have the files that I used linked in the video description but not sure if that's what you need.

Are you running a Mac? I am frustrated. I ran with Scott’s instructions plus chmod I got to a point where terminal said can’t read binary file. How did you get 600ex rtii to update? I’m New to terminal buggery.

Hey that's tough... as long as all the letters and spaces etc are correct I'd imagine it should work. To be honest, I'm not very technical and this was just a walkthrough of what Yongnuo told me haha. Outside of that I have no idea how to use terminal so I don't think I could help much. I've tried to contact Yongnuo again since this to check for further updates or firmware for other products but haven't been able to get in touch either so I'm not sure if anything has changed. Sorry!

Sounds like a permissions problem. Make sure that the folder is on your desktop. Then check permissions for the file bu right clicking on it and selecting 'Get Info". At the bottom of the opened dialogue box expand 'Sharing & Permissions'. You should see your name with (Me) next to it if it doesn't say 'Read & Write' next to it change it with the arrows.

Hi! Unfortunately there were a lot of security changes with Catalina ...I haven't been able to get in touch with Yongnuo lately though so I'm not sure if they have any workaround or new software. You can try and contact them too but I haven't had any luck in a while

There's a .dfu file in there so I think the process should work similar to this video, but it seems like there's no USB port on the YN685 itself, correct? In that case the only way might be to use something like the YN622N-TX. I'll contact Yongnuo about it and double check, then get back to you. Thanks!

Hi and sorry for the delay! You're correct that the only way to update the firmware is through the YN622N-TX in what they call "update agency mode." The YnFMTool shown in this video to update firmware from a Mac needs to be modified a little and I should be able to send you that when it's ready. It may or may not be necessary to update the firmware on your YN622N-TX first, to check just hold the mode key and turn the power on. If it displays "yn685 up" then you're all set. If you send me an email, [e-mail], I can set a reminder to send a link for the modified YnFMTool to you once I get it. Thanks, and hope that helps!

@@ScottDumas I've tried this YnFMTool from YN and it didn't work. Any updates on this? I'm trying to update my YN622TXc and my YN656EX III. For some reason it won't fire HSS through the transceiver. It freezes the flash instead. Total freeze... can't even shut off. I have to remove the batteries. If you guys have any idea, I would appreciate it! Thanks

So it seems that the 600EX is not supported at the moment, but the 600ex-rt II is. The YN-E3-RT wasn't on the list they gave me either. Not sure if they plan to change that in the future or not.

Thanks for checking. I have two 600ex-RTs but one fell off a stand yesterday so I just ordered a new 600ex-rt II. The flash that fell still works from the YN-E3-RT but the On/Off/Lock switch is stuck on LOCK so I can't change settings from the flash itself. I also have to pull the batteries out to make it turn off. It's a $100. flash so I don't see spending money to repair it. I'll still get some use out of it. Thanks again.
