Hi David. Thanks for uploading this video it is very handy. Just so your viewers are aware YONGNUO produce two YN622C-TX triggers... The first is the YN622C-TX E-TTL and the second is the YN622C-TX i -TTL. There is a different firmware upgrade for each. Don't get them confused. Hope this helps.

@David Gilbert, thanks for the note, glad you found it useful. Regarding your comment about the two versions, I am not aware of two Canon versions. Are you sure you are not confusing the YN622N-TX (Nikon) with the YN622C-TX (Canon)? I ask because i-TTL is Nikon's version of TTL and E-TTL is Canon's. Thanks.

David you are correct ... The I-TTL version is for Nikon and the E-TTL is for Canon. The issue I wanted your viewers to note is to be mindful when they look at the YONGNUO site for their firmware upgrade, that they actually upload the correct one as the site doesn't differentiate between Nikon or Canon. Thanks again for the video I am sure others will find it extremely useful. Keep up the good work.

@Peter Spoerry: I mention this in the video, I am actually running a Windows virtual machine on my Mac. The firmware upgrade software is PC only, so you have to run it on a PC (either a physical one or a virtual machine like mine). I personally use VMWare, but Parallels or another VM product should work as well.

Hi David. Thanks for all your tutorials. I am using a D750 and D700 with a SB600 and 800. I was having trouble because I seem to be unable to control power output with my YN 622TX. It will fire the flashes and I can adjust the flashes on the YN622TX but it doesn't seem to adjust the actual power output and it doesn't show it being adjusted at all on the backs of the flashes. I did the firmware update but to no avail. Any advice? Please? lol
@carrida2010
@carrida2010 8 жыл бұрын
Tanya, Sorry for the late reply. Do you have the SB600 and SB800 set to TTL mode(they need to be in TTL mode in order to be manually controlled from the TX)? You won't see the power setting change on the flash itself, you'll have to test by taking shots.
@tanyacanam6258
@tanyacanam6258 8 жыл бұрын
So you set the flashes to TTL however the TX will control them in manual (or whatever you set it to)? You can't set the flashes to manual? Thanks for the reply!
@carrida2010
@carrida2010 8 жыл бұрын
Tanya, yes, it seems counterintuitive but the way the Yongnuo controls the flash is by using the TTL signal codes, so the flash has to be in TTL for it to work. When you set the flash to manual, the only thing the TX can do is fire it, it has no control over power.

Hi David, I am trying to use the 622TX-C along with 622C on my 6D. It works fine when under the sync speed. However in HSS mode I am getting a somewhat black bar (not completely black, its kind of very dark) and when I just replace the trigger on my 5D Mark 2 it works completely fine. I have enabled the HSS on my 6D but I am not able to figure out why I am getting the black band even when the Camera is in HSS mode. Hopefully you can help. Thanks. Tan.

@carrida2010
@carrida2010 8 жыл бұрын
Hi Michel, I run VMWare Fusion. The Mac and VMWare pretty much do everything for you, you just have to supply the copy of Windows or whatever OS you want to run. When you plug a usb device in, it asks you if you want that to be made available to the Mac or PC side. It is a per session selection, but you can choose to default the choice for that device. I have not tried to do anything with the 600-RT or ET3-RT (I don't have those devices).

Hi David. Quick question but it has nothing to do with the YN622n TX. Just hoping you can shed light into this one. I have a Nikon D5100 and when I use the YN622n transceivers, the TTL doesn't seem to work. It gets my photos way underexposed. Although I see the flash working and firing when I take a photo.
@carrida2010
@carrida2010 9 жыл бұрын
Mark, let me know a little about your setup. For instance, what do you have on top of the D5100, a YN622N or a TX? And then does it work if you set the controller on the camera to manual control and fire the flash that way? Also, what flash are you using, and do you have it set to TTL? It sounds like maybe only the pre-flashes are firing and not the main flash, OR maybe you have flash compensation set to to negative? Give me all the info you can and maybe (hopefully) we can figure it out.......Thx and good luck in the meantime....
@marklaurencepabico6834
@marklaurencepabico6834 9 жыл бұрын
David Carrico What I have on top of my d5100 is the YN622N not the TX. All are in TTL. The flash fires when I take a picture so it means that the 2 YN622n's are communicating BUT the photo is underexposed. Tried it on my D7100 but it was fine. I read a lot of this issue online specially those using a d5100 camera
@carrida2010
@carrida2010 9 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately I don't have a D5100, so can't specifically help. Try a few things: double check exposure comp settings and flash comp settings on the 5100. Check out the meta data on one of your underexposed lights and see if anything looks odd. Try taking the same photo with the spot metering engaged int he camera. Also, do you have an SB700, SU-800, SB-910 or SB-900 + one other flash that works with the 622Ns? If so, put one of the Nikon units on top of the on camera 622N and use its commander mode and see if that helps (that mode passes commander info from the flash through the 622N). Sorry I can't be more help....

I cannot get the software to recognize the device when it is connected. When I go into firmware mode and plug into my Win PC (running 8.1) it tries to auto install a device driver. I have tried turning that off. So I am wondering is the software not compatible with Windows 8 or 8.1? Are you using Windows 8 or 7? Thanks, Sean

David Carrico Hi David, Finally got it to work, I had to go into device manager and go to the actual yongnuo folder and search that specific folder for the device driver, once that was installed the system recognized the transmitter when I attached it. then I went the the firmware folder and everything worked fine. It was simple but took me awhile to find a blog where someone talked about it. If Yongnuo would just tell people in the instructions to install the device driver from the system folder it would make it simple. Thanks for responding. Cheers.

Hi David, I wonder if you could help me please? I've just purchased a Yongnou 622 TX flash trigger (with a receiver of course) and am using it with my Nikon camera. In manual mode, I'm having no problems, however if I use it in TTL mode and in Aperture Priority, regardless of what the correct exposure should be, the shutter speed always defaults to 1/60th sec. Do you have any idea why that might be?
@carrida2010
@carrida2010 9 жыл бұрын
I believe it will behave like that in A even if you take the flash trigger out of the mix. To get a different shutter speed you should go to Shutter priority or to manual. Manual will let you set Shutter and Aperture, and if you have the flash in TTL, it will try to make up for any lacking light by boosting flash power (up to the limit of the flash). Also, I didn't mention, but you can also use auto ISO in that mix as well.
@MikeJB
@MikeJB 9 жыл бұрын
David Carrico Many thanks for the quick reply, David. I appreciate it. If what you say is correct, then I'm pretty surprised. If you're out on location doing, for example, a wedding shoot, where a lot of the time there just is no time to use manual mode, being unable to use A/P mode is a major downer in my opinion. "I believe it will behave like that in A even if you take the flash trigger out of the mix." Just so I'm clear, if I turn off the 622TX and put my camera into A mode, it works perfectly. As soon as I switch on the 622, and in A mode, the shutter speed immediately goes to 1/60. Having said that, if I mount my flash (Yongnuo 568EX) directly to my camera hotshoe, the same 1/60 "problem" arises. Sorry if I'm misreading your post, but am I right in assuming that though the shutter speed stays at 1/60, the flash compensates by automatically increasing/decreasing the flash power? Does the same happen on your camera?
@carrida2010
@carrida2010 9 жыл бұрын
***** Its not entirely accurate, but the simplified view. In reality, you can go into your flash settings and set something called the Flash Shutter Speed (not to be confused with sync speed that is different). This setting is usually defaulted to 1/60 sec (but you can set it to a longer duration) and defines the minimum shutter speed that will be used in Aperture and Program. So the camera, with enough light will select a higher shutter speed up to the max sync of your camera. In practical terms though, unless you are using your flash for fill flash or using a very wide aperture, the camera will generally set itself at 1/60. Again, you can set it to allow the camera to go to a longer duration. All this is to say, I imagine that is what you were running into with the YN-622N, and its a camera thing, not a trigger thing. I haven't gone and tested this with my system tonight, so let me know if you are seeing that the trigger acts different than the camera.
@carrida2010
@carrida2010 9 жыл бұрын
***** Mike, regarding the question in your last post, yes, "the flash compensates by automatically increasing/decreasing the flash power". Also see my earlier post (the second one that talks about the Flash shutter speed) for more info on how the camera works...

Hi David.. thanks for your helpful shares. I have some difficulties while using below set in Manuel Mode. Any suggestion for that ? 1. YN-622N - TX Controller 2. YN-622N Receiver 3. YN-568 EX Flash Unit 4. Nikon D800 Machine The issue is so unusual. I cant change the Manuel power values from TX, It flashes the power that is set in 568EX Flash. 568EX in iTTL mode. I can control TTL and Zoom there is no problem. But ın Manuel Mode sometimes, I can control it, but this time the values are not correct and it behaves 2 stops brighter. 1/8 give more power like 1/2... So interesting... when you say Full Power long duration method you refer to super sync? Because what i really want to know is what are the differences between HSS and -super sync- and if super sync can replace the HSS option on a flash Thank you :)
@carrida2010
@carrida2010 9 жыл бұрын
Yes, most flashes at full power give off light for a long duration that allows the full frame to be properly exposed even at high shutter speed, that is if the initial burst and beginning of that duration is properly timed. That is what super sync allows you to do is align the burst with your shutter travel. And instead of time short bursts as in real HSS, the flash just stays on the whole time instead. This ONLY works in full power though, as the duration of the flash goes way down with anything else. So to control exposure, you have to use the distance of the flash from subject and aperture, whereas with real HSS you have some flexibility of power output. Does that make sense? My understanding is that the long duration method will work with a large number of flashes but not necessarily all....
@lukcrys4844
@lukcrys4844 9 жыл бұрын
First of all i want to thank you for your time :) summary: HSS is one short time flash bursts in one bigger shutter travel in SS the duration of time flash bursts is equal with shutter travel(senzor exposure to light) but this ONLY works in full power. So now i will choice YONGNUO YN-568EXN, GODOX VING V860N or POLAROID PL190N instead of YN-565EXN because i need HSS :) What is your suggestion please?

Another reason to own a Canon. On Canon cameras, flash exposure lock is a function of the CAMERA not the FLASH. With a press of a button (* = exposure lock), a pre-flash is fired and the exposure recorded (which is later used for the exposure). I've used this many times with the YN-622C's/YN-622C-TX and my Canon 60D. It works perfectly.

Either my camera is not communicating with the controller or the controller is not communicating with the transceivers. When you depress the TEST button on the controller the lights flash on the transceiver...but NO flash whatsoever. Is this an update issue OR do I have something set up wrong? Channel 1, Group A on both Controller, transceiver, flash and camera. Settings on the Controller are NOT showing up on the flash when I make a change. Help please. Thanks, Dave

Sorry for the late reply. Hopefully you figured it out. Were your flashes in TTL mode?

Hi David, I'm using the Yongnuo 622N with the Nikon SB-600. I'm having difficulty making the 622N on my D810 hotshoe remotely control the power of the SB-600 both in TTL and in Manual. Whenever I do the "hold CH+" there is no increase in flash power. Appreciate your help!

Edward Lee Sorry, I never mastered the commander controls on the 622N. I use an SB-900 on top of it as a commander,, or I use the 622N-TX. Hopefully another reader can help out.

Hi David. i have the YN622C TX and i can shoot a speedlite 580ex, only in manual mode 1/1. I can´t setup the power. Do you know why? Thanks! (sorry, my english is not very good, im from Argentina)

Adrián Gómez Sorry, I do not know the Canon system at all. Is your 580ex set to TTL (manual control is done by the TX, so even if shooting in manual, the off camera 580ex should be in TTL mode - ETTL in Canon's case).....

thanks for the great video David..quick question. .. when I meter the flash I seem to get the same reading regardless of the setting. .if I shoot 1/1 or 1/128 the reading is identical but if I take the shot the results are fine..is there something I'm missing. .i believe that the flash meter is reading the preflash..any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. .

Yes, that is unfortunately one of the results of using Yongnuo to control the Nikons. You lose the ability to use a flash meter because of the pre-flashes. I haven't found a good way around it. When I was looking into it, I think I did find one technique that could work, but it was more trouble than it is worth. Now if I want to use my meter, I end using my Cheetahlight CL-360s as my main lights and if I have to use one of my Nikons, I set it to manual so that no pre-flashes fire (but then you lose most of the control the Yongnuo system provides).

do you know how fast you can sync these with alien bees?
@carrida2010
@carrida2010 9 жыл бұрын
I do not, have not used Alien Bees. I would guess that you can use the fastest sync speed on your camera, and then the TX super sync functionality should allow you to simulate HSS at full power (but again, I don't know for sure since I haven't tried it with Alien Bees). Sorry I can't say more definitively, maybe someone else can.......

+Hi Ha I have a Canon 6D, and I'm also facing problems with HSS. The thing is, HSS works just fine with my flash mounted on the camera's hotshoe, but I can't make it work when remote triggered with the YN622TX/622C. So, I'm guessing the camera is not the issue here... But I never tried the yongnuo firmware upgrade though... worth the shot!

Hello, David. I have been trying to update the firmware on my YN 622N TX for a long time now and your video helped me a lot to give me an idea on how to do it. However, none of the download links on the Yongnou website. Would you happen to have the files for firmware 1.06 and the updater software? Hope you can get back to me soon, thank you!

+_Ocelot_ not sure actually., I'll have to revive my old VM to check. I would suggest contacting youngnuo to get the latest links. Unfortunately it can sometimes take up to a week to get a response. I'll try to check my VM sometime over the next couple of days when I get a few min....

+David Carrico It has been the same with me for months. None of the links work. The new version should be a new page than you have linked, 1.08 or something like that. You should update the link. But, it won't let us install any of it because the link doesn't exist with a file on the other end, the installer or firmware. If you have it, you should save it to dropbox and give us access. Really though, is there much point in updating? I'm about to receive a new flash in my setup so I've thought maybe I should update it but it's not a new one to their line up, the 568EX ii, I use everything in full manual with the LCD display controller and multiple receivers. The new one hasn't come in yet, but the other two flash's work good. When would an upgrade really be needed? A new camera for ETTL or a new flash? I always shoot in manual so I'm thinking I won't need to.

Guys, they change the url from time to time, but if you browse their site for your product, go to the product page, the links are usually at the bottom of the product page. I just went to their site and found the updater and latest firmware here: www.hkyongnuo.com/e-detaily.php?ID=339 . Hope that helps and happy shooting.....

By the way, I did note that it appeared as if nothing was happening for a minute or two, but the files did eventually download. The updater actually did fail twice before downloading very slowly on the 3rd attempt (it took 5 minutes for a 5.4 mb file). If you continue to have issues with it, shoot me your email and I can email it to you since the file is only 5.4MB.....
