You rock! I have no fear of tearing into an engine or a wall, but I was a bit nervous about this. Your video made it super easy and I was finished in less than an hour. I used a credit card to get the palm rest off, and to prevent scratching the motherboard, I used a wooden cuticle stick from a nail grooming kit for removing and reassembling the various plugs. Thanks a million for putting this together.

I have watched a lot of tutorials on how to upgrade the dell mini 10v, and ironically the funny thing is, the guy who did it on the CARPET honestly did the best job explaining and detailing than anybody else lol. Nice job dude.

I watched the videos a couple of times and at first was pretty intimidated to try it. I just finished upgrading my Mini 10v. It took probably close to an hour (I kept re-watching sections to make sure I didn't mess it up.) Thank you so much for going step by step and the zooms were really helpful. (I did notice after I put all the screws in one cup that there were a few different lengths and should have put them in more than one cup.)

I used this video to repair my speaker popping noise. It turned out dell had pinched the wires under the trackpad and it shorted though. Their service was terrible, your video saved me lots of headache and money. Thanks very much!!!

Thanks so much. I literally just finished this whole process 10 minutes ago and am now writing this on the upgraded mini 10v. Video was so straightforward that I just watched it on my iPhone as I was taking this thing apart. Mad props to you, not so much for Dell.... ;)

Excellent videos, easy to follow, worked perfectly! Thanks! One note for others, my hard drive didn't just pop out, it took quite a bit to work it loose. Also, couldn't get the last power cable loose, so just flipped up the motherboard and popped in the new memory stick.

@darkrashan Apparently it isn't that highly static-sensitive. In fact, the sensitivity of many solid state devices is much lower than you would think. I have never had a single device die from a static discharge blowing the circuitry and havent been overly cautious. Just basically dont rub it around on the floor and make sure you discharge yourself before you pick something up.

Thanks for the info. My Dell is a 10/10 and from what i've read on here the memory cannot be upgraded, because it's soldered on, but at least i know that now as i was contemplating trying to take the back off and do it myself. Thanks for posting.

@SuperMario64N64 no, the 1010 is not a 10v (the 10v is 1011). The memory on the 1010 (which is the only mini 10 series netbook with hdmi) has the memory soldered to the main board and cannot be updated.

Thanks for this video. Just a note: if you can't remove the WLAN "mini card" screw, don't worry. There's no need to remove it; unplugging the cables suffices.

Good work my man, I would however recommend for future tear downs, that you use a guitar pic, to to pull those clips out, that hold the ribbons in. That would cause minimum to no damage to the motherboard, if you should scrape it :-)

Using a thin knife blade (length ways) helps take out the palm rest, DONT PRY TOO FAST it's not too hard (you just dont want to bend it in the middle, its delicate around the touch pad)

TIP: at 3:50, sometimes if you dont have fingernails, or dont want to use something as abrasive as a flathead, i use a guitar pick! they usually come in three sizes, thin, med, and heavy, just buy all 3, they cost like $0.25 a piece. i actually found mine outside of a music store lol. hope this helps! also, thank you for this tutorial; i just ordered one of these used via amazon with 1gb, so, first thing im going to do is up it to 2. is 2 the max? id maybe like to put 4 in it. netbook or not lol

Great video but two questions: 1. where's your antistatic wrist strap? 2. Why's that expensive highly static-sensitive minicard sitting on your carpet?. In school they teach us static is horribly bad for sensitive electronics.. if you do this be very careful about static. Use an anti-static wrist grounding strap (or pad or w/e you have). If you don't have or can't afford, ground yourself out to something to release static. Use an anti static bag to put minicard on, or use glass if you dont have

Oh and to find out what type of ram your mini takes just search for it in amazon. All I did was put in "mini 10v 1011 ram" and it came up with all the compatible options. Just make sure it lists your model number in the description.

I found a Inspironmini with an atom z530 processor, i tried to upgrade ram memmory, it wasn't possible, the processor and ram are built in a single ddr module, so if you remove the module the netbook wont have a processor, hehehe, I wonder what would happen if i install this module in another inspiron mini with n270 atom, could it work like a co-processor?

@GE24Tony They're not made for gaming, they're made for surfing the net, traveling while working, and doing school reports and such.. It's a netbook not a laptop. If it doesn't have a bluetooth mini pci-e then it doesn't have bluetooth (some models that advertise it have it soldered onto the motherboard). If yours doesn't you can add it but you may lose wifi Reason it gets so hot (it does have a fan) is cause it's tiny and they have to cram a lot of tech in a small case. Dont cover vents :P
