This was fantastic. I love the up close shots and the 'slowness' of the instructions to give the user a chance to double-check what they are doing. I was able to accomplish this perfectly the first time. I checked bluetooth, WI-FI and LAN, touchpad and all the keyboard keys. Everything worked great. I cannot thank you enough for these videos.

Just an awesome tute, jrincon. Excellent step-by-step doing an upgrade that ought to be a no-brainer except for Dell's infinite idiocy in burying the RAM chip. I found that when you remove the keyboard screws you can push a small tool through one of the holes to lift the keyboard up from the front. Also I was having so much difficulty removing the power cable that I left it hooked up, flipped the board, and replaced the RAM. Went ahead and added bluetooth also!

Awesome video. There is no way I could have assemble and disassemble the mini without both (disassemble and assemble) videos. The Dell person who designed the mini definitely did not have the person who wants to upgrade the laptop in mind!

Thanks for the video! The upgrade went smoothly, except that 3 of the brass nuts molded into the inside of the case broke off (one under each hinge, and the one next the cover to the wi-fi card. The case seems sturdy enough with out these three screws. Other than that, no extra parts after assembly.

Great tutorial!! thank you for sharing. tops, I ended up installing a 7200 rpm hd and calling it a day. I wanted to cut through the underside of the case to gain access to the mem mod, however you answered this question via the mini disassembly science project. Question 4 gig mod can be installed on the mini 10? I'm running a Z530 processor.

@melbelle01133 Same thing happened to me. I just took it apart again and reseated the ram, put it back together and it worked. Fairly standard to have to seat the ram a couple of times, it just isn't usually such a pain to do... You can test it without screwing in most of the screws underneath. Very useful instructions, by the way.

well i managed to get the 2bg ram stick in and all, but when i turned it on, the screen was white. i checked all connections were good. i seem to have damaged the display cable! D: Shit! well I got it to mostly work... meaning that the screen is all fucked up! Should I go to dell about this?

I thought Win XP can only read 1gig of RAM, how can you install a 2gig RAM card and have Win XP read it and fully operate on the 2 gigs of RAM?

windows xp (32bit) can read 3.3gb. the ram limitation in these netbooks has nothing to do with the operating system, rather with the chipset the motherboard uses.

Thanks for this! My mom is wanting to dust one off to give to her great grandson.. Now that it is semi-usable with 2gb of RAM on an optimized XP, maybe I'll put Lubuntu, Mint, or some other Linux on it. I'm not sure how well a 7 or 8 year old kid will adapt to Linux..
