@@crisnmaryfam7344 The airflow comes from up top. It passes over the metal plate that covers the drive, not from below it. It wouldnt make sense to vent from below as you would have to make vent holes through the motherboards. He also says it doesnt pass over. Yes it does. The ridges you see above the m.2 are the vent holes. The ps5 fan you see there pulls air from between the black and white plastic, through the ridges, over the m.2 cover into the fan. From the fan it gets pushed through the system airway and out the exhaust. Airflow was seriously considered when making the ps5. The entire system is made somewhat airtight by foam inserts in open spaces of the system to direct airflow.

Great info on how to take it apart. It might have been helpful to others to show the underside of the lid and what is actually holding it down and why you press on it the way you do WHERE you do...makes a lot more sense after the fact. There's 2 little nubs at the end about a couple millimeters high that don't have hooks in them. You are essentially lifting them out of the holes they sit in, allowing the rest of the plastic cover to slide open. When you slide it back together, the main hooks catch the sliding cover, then the little nubs drop into those shallow holes, locking it in place, once you slide it all the way up.

(0:50) I really only buy games for PC nowadays, but still play my consoles a lot, cause I have a huge library on XB1 and PS4 from before my "PCMR" switch in 2018 lol. And also Game Pass on XB1. So my OG XB1 has a 500GB HDD, and I had a 4TB external for a number of years that kept me good, but with Game Pass I filled the rest of it quickly, and had to move up to an 8TB, and I'm close to full there now too lol. The OG Xbox360 had a 20GB HDD I think, and it was a system update later on that allowed installing disc games to the HDD. So originally that space was for DLC and save files, and it was plenty. But later on it wasn't with more and more digital purchases, and just installing discs to the HDD so they loaded faster. I upgraded to the 120GB HDD, and after that, an "unofficial" 240GB kit. Then they added the USB storage capability, so I had another drive or two there. 'Member GTA5 on 360, which required an 8GB flash drive to fill with chunks of game data, that could load in parallel with data on the disc, cause otherwise it couldn't stream data fast enough or something. I think you can just run it all off a HDD if you install the game to it though.

This current console generation is reminding me a lot of the start of the 360 era, you couldn't build an equivalent PC for less than the MRSP of the console! There obviously wasn't the price gouging that there is now but even at MSRP you'll struggle to match the performance of these consoles with new hardware for the same price. I think until proof of work mining moves to proof of stake and supply shortages are resolved the consoles will actually be better value for money for most people's gaming needs.

Would be pretty much the same, since the onboard is just the flash chips soldered onto the board directly rather than on another pcb an attached to pcei. It's like having 2 PCIE Gen4 slots on your computer, you wouldn't see a noticeable difference in using either slot
@GamerErman20012 жыл бұрын
From the videos I've seen it varies between games which tests faster but it's almost always within margin of error.

@@scarletspidernz I was gunna say it’d be dope to compair cloning and replacing the system drive with something that has a tuned r/w but I guess if it’s already on the pcie bus it’d just be as fast as it can be. It’d still be a cool series to have one ps5/Xbox and do a mod to it while keeping the os intact to see how much you can possibly milk out of a system.

@scarletspidernz the load time r so close and similar their no reason to be spending more money on a different brand. Just get whatever is cheap and meets the ps5 requirements.

i like how the PS5 is able to identify what kind of SSD is installed in the slot as opposed to calling it "Extended storage" or something along those lines
@manuelbardina2 жыл бұрын
Heads up for anyone concerned, you can only have 1 USB drive at a time. you can alternate it freely, but you can't have 2 usb storage devices concurrently. If you like to have everything available always, a 2tb or bigger nvme internal drive, and a 4tb or bigger usb drive (i like 4tb mx500), is Really worth considering splurging on. If both your internal and external storage get full, upgrading is painful.

I’ve had my PS5 for a few years now so I have a lot of games but I’m thinking about getting an upgrade internal drive like this because I’m tired of spending hours transferring to my extended hard drive. If I install an upgraded internal drive, will it erase my PS5 memory and games or is it just an upgrade to the storage?

would it matter if I install games and say shhh I need more storage and install this later without any issues or do you recommend installing this first fresh out the box. Would ps4 games work the same on a ps5 any graphic issues or speed differences. I know im a late comer to ps5 what can I say my ps4 is done after 7 years. thx y'all
@Deadsea_19932 жыл бұрын
The speed difference for Ps4 games will be noticeably different. Giant Ps4 games like Horizon Zero Dawn and Days Gone will be lightning fast with going from main menu to game world. You can install the games whenever and it is just best to move the games around to storage spaces rather than deleting and downloading them again. No graphics issues, the SSD is basically for storage and speed.

I would really love to see a video about the temps with and without the plate, because i've heard that the plate is designed by sony as another form of cooler. Also Sabrent designed their own M.2 Cover plate specifically for the ps5s M.2 slot, which also serves as a heatsink so you dont have to install one on your own. Seeing these different factors being compared by you would totally make my day. :D
@scarletspidernz2 жыл бұрын
Probably something GN could do with their temp probes and other tools they have

Heatsink covers is a rip off. It's not going to affect performance if you just buy the ssd and pop it in without the heatsink.

Might actually throw my new 2TB SSD into my PS5 so this is a good video to see where the upgrade slot is located. I tried installing it into a laptop and the laptop manufacturer didn't provide the screw, so when I tried a screw that was slightly too big for the hole it tore it right off the motherboard, yikes.
@Shadowespeon172 жыл бұрын
The SSD bay does have airflow, but the PS5 uses negative pressure in that slot to draw the heat from that vent. Not the most ideal method, but as long as your heatsink is actually a functional heatsink and not just useless scrap metal then it will do the job. Sabrent, and IIRC, one of either ADATA or PNY has a specialty Proprietary heatsink cover that improves on Sony's original method of managing those temps.

Actually, as other videos (and Sony) explain, the cover over the cooler serves as a channel to direct airflow from the fan and cooling fins over the M.2 unit. Leaving it off would potentially lose that airflow, which could also result in higher system temperatures due to air leakage.
@crisnmaryfam73442 жыл бұрын
Other people have tested this with temperature probes and open is superior cooling. Gamers Nexus actually proved this.
