Awesome! Glad I can help! Even though I feel like I couldn't do much with these decks this time around because they were already practically done. XD
@josejuangomez834 жыл бұрын
Affinity for MTG i agree on that, this year the decks were very well done. Only problem in the multicolored decks was the manabases.
@AffinityforMTG4 жыл бұрын
Oh yeah, they always cheap out on the manabases. Though I was pretty surprised to see Fabled Passages in the deck, so I guess they could have been worse. :)

It seems like these 2020 challenger decks are better to play out of the box than previous challenger decks.
@AffinityforMTG4 жыл бұрын
Yeah, they were incredibly close to being done out of the box. Even Allied Fires is pretty much done. A lot of people complained that it was completely different from the Tier 1 Jeskai Fires deck, which is true, but it's basically card-for-card Jeskai Superfriends from the War of the Spark metagame except for missing Teferi. I think this was a great batch of decks! It's too bad they're going unappreciated because no one can play them at FNM. :(

Thank you for the video. Really like your "upgrade" videos. Since I bought both Flash of Ferocity and Final Adventure, I guess I'll be using 2x Fable Passages in either deck. However, what is the general rule of thumb of using Fable Passage? How much is enough for 2-colored deck? Do I swap basic lands for Passages?
@AffinityforMTG4 жыл бұрын
Most decks run 3-4. It's a little awkward in the early game since the lands come into play tapped but being able to pick the exact color you need and also cutting lands out of your deck so you're less likely to draw more of them is pretty nice. Some decks will go down to 1-2, but they're usually decks that are already running a ton of temples (3-color decks) so they just don't have enough room in the manabase to run a bunch of passages and basic lands. Most 2 color decks can just run the full 4. Assuming you want to spend $60 for Fabled Passages. Even on Arena I run 1 in all my decks because that's all I have and I don't want to spend my wildcards on it. :P Edit: Oh, and yeah, you usually replace basics with Fabled Passages.

n00b question: Why not replace Kraul Harpooner with Plummet or Crushing Canopy? 🤔
@AffinityforMTG3 жыл бұрын
Yeah, you could, they do basically the same thing, but Kraul Harpooner was much more popular when this deck was in standard just because it's always useful. If you're opponent doesn't have a flyer, it's still a 2-mana 3/2. Plus it's good with Order of Midnight. You can use the Harpooner to kill a big flyer, then use the Order to return it to hand so you can kill another creature. Same with Find/Finality. Also, if you have Midnight Reaper, you get to draw an extra card when the Harpooner dies. So even though it's a little less consistent, it has a lot of upside in this deck. :)

Whats your point of view about adding in a couple of flaxen intruder? @Affinity for MTG
@AffinityforMTG4 жыл бұрын
Hmm, I think it would have to go in the place of Lovestruck Beast, they're pretty similar cards, but I think Lovestruck Beast is better because you get both modes of the card if you play the adventure on turn 1 and the beast on turn 3. Flaxen Intruder is a little bit awkward since the only way to get the bears is way later in the game. Maybe it goes in the sideboard and it replaces Lovestruck Beast when you need artifact/enchantment hate.

Question about cards: Knight of the Ebon Legion - It doesn't matter which player lost 4 life this turn? If so, will he get 2x +1/+1 if both players lost 4 life this turn? Also ruling says 'It also doesn’t matter whether Knight of the Ebon Legion was on the battlefield when they lost life'. How can be not on battlefield and gain that +1/+1 token? Lucky Clover - When it's on battlefield, it can copy as many adventures as I want each turn or just one?
@AffinityforMTG3 жыл бұрын
It doesn't matter which player, but it will only trigger once. It just checks, and if it confirms anyone lost that much life it'll trigger. If it could trigger twice, it would probably be worded like "Add a counter for each player that lost 4 life" or something like that. It can't get a counter when it's off the battlefield, but it WILL get a counter if it wasn't on the battlefield when the life was lost. So for example, if you attack and deal 4 damage, and then on your 2nd main phase you play the Knight, at end of turn it'll check to see if someone lost 4 life, and get a counter even though it wasn't on the battlefield when the life was lost. Lucky Clover will trigger every time you play an adventure, as many times per turn! :)

Take everything out that isn’t an adventure, clover, or inn keeper. Insert adventure cards. 4 mosswood dread knights, 4 beanstalk giants, another murderous rider or 2, 2 or 3 fell horseman depending on how many MRs you add.

I love this deck! But is there a way to play it after bans?
@AffinityforMTG4 жыл бұрын
It's tough! I don't think there is a good replacement, right now I'd probably just replace it with removal spells, maybe one of the Garruk's that are in Standard, or even Chevill to draw cards off all the removal. I think this deck has move into a more controlling, midrange deck where you focus on killing things early and beating down after turn 4 or 5, with things like Lovestruck Beast, Questing Beast, Elder Gargaroth, etc. Although those last 2 cards are kind of expensive in paper! :(

I don't really play Commander so I don't usually do upgrade guides, unfortunately. I might do a "which deck should you buy" style of video when Ikoria is released, but it's unlikely I'll do upgrade guides.

@@AffinityforMTG I think if you did "strategy breakdowns" of the decks that would be dope. Kinda of like how you did with the "2020 Challenger Decks" video. But do individual breakdowns for each deck like you do with the "upgrade" videos. That would be dope.
@chrischrischris7234 жыл бұрын
Is there anything from Ikoria that you think would have a place in this deck?
@AffinityforMTG4 жыл бұрын
I just looked through a bunch of competitive versions of this deck and none of them were using cards from Ikoria, actually! Occasionally I'd see a single copy of Chevil, which I don't think is necessary, and Heartless Act is played as a removal spell from time to time, but nothing drastic. The deck is so heavily rooted in the Adventure mechanic that I think the core of the deck isn't going to change much and it's really only going to be the removal/planeswalkers that change as new sets are released. Although Zendikar is being described as an "adventure" plane so I'm curious if that means we'll get more literal Adventure cards...
@PrettyGeneric4 жыл бұрын
Would love to hear your viewpoints on how Ikoria could change up these decks
@AffinityforMTG4 жыл бұрын
Maybe once the dust has settled I'll do an Ikoria update for these decks. I can say from my own experience that Voracious Greatshark definitely goes into Flash of Ferocity. :)
