Hmmm. There seem to be a lot of different variations on this model. I'm waiting for a refurbished i5 6200u to turn up and I was going to order new ram and storage so it's all set up from the start but without knowing the full serial number I think I should wait. Great vid, mate, very professional.

I agree that it is better practice to remove the battery when performing these upgrades. I make sure to adhere to that practice nowadays. :)

The best possible performance would have been to just add a second 8gb stick of memory into the empty b slot, instead of only one 16gb stick. Using two sticks allows the memory to run in dual channel mode which gives a slight bump in performance versus one stick (very slight). The only reason to buy one 16gb stick is to have the option of adding a second 16gb stick later on. But this laptop does not have enough oomph to really take advantage of that much memory 99% of the time. In fact, I really doubt 16gb is really needed or offer any real world advantage. So to sum up. Two 4gb stick outperforms one 8gb stick, and of course, two 8gb sticks will outperform one 16gb stick and so on. Also keep in mind, smaller capacity memory modules usually cost less than larger, so yet another reason to add a second 8gb stick versus one only 16gb stick (Best performance for less). And there is always the option to step up in frequency with the ram, or adding sticks with lower latency or both. But for the majority of users, the best performance, and best bang for your buck would be to add a second 8gb stick and call it a day.

Im getting mine uograde but is no giving video and the battery line remain on fpr a while then it turn off itself, kts right type, samsung brand, 7470 im using a 16 gb ddr4 and 7450 im using 2gb ddr3 samsung brand, same issues on both

Planning to upgrade my laptop after I finish with an apprenticeship programme. Just want to make sure what type of SSD [looks like NVME] you got there and what type & brand of RAM they got there. 100% Looking into the iFixit kit.

You can use M.2 NVMe or M.2 SATA solid state drives. NVMe will perform faster as it's data transfering through PCIe (a different technology from SATA) :)

Please, aside from Crucial and Samsung, which of the following NVMe brands are compatible with the Dell Latitude E7470 - especially for hiccup free cloning? ADATA, Pioneer, Inland, WD Black, and Hynix gold.

They should all be compatible. But be sure to get yourself a good, high quality one. I recommend Western Digital, or Samsung, or Hynix. Again though, any should work in this system.

Just bought the E7470, installed an nvme 1TB Hynix Gold SSD. Booted to Bios and noticed that under primary drive it reads:None. Why is that?

You may need to alter the drive settings in BIOS. Maybe changing it from RAID to AHCI will work, or vise versa depending on the current setting.

Hi, Thanks for the nice video! :) I am a bit confused to replace my SSD, I bought a Kingston NV1 PCIe NVMe M.2 500Gb for my Dell Latitude E7470, however seems like it supports only SATA M.2 SSDs, not m.2 PCIe NVMe drive. is there any way I can use my bought SSD in my dell laptop? Thanks for your help.

Yes! Just flip the SSD upside down. That's how they get it to work. I did the same thing with my Dell precision 5510, as well as my Latitude E7470. Beware though, this doesn't apply to every system. I will assure you it works with this one however. :)

Just be super careful! I used to break computers every time I opened them up, until I was about 11 or 12. (Not every time, but I broke several when I was young as a result of premature disassembly.)
