Thanks so much for the tips. I couldn't get into my boot settings to use Rufus, so I took a stab at the 'Command Prompt' method and it worked like a charm. Thank you again! I didn't want to turn a great running laptop into e-waste.

@MikeFitzpatrick-vr4ic Thank you so much for your kind words! 😊 I’m really glad the Command Prompt method worked for you and that you could give your laptop a second life instead of turning it into e-waste. That’s exactly why we make these tutorials-to help people make the most of their devices. If you have any other questions or need help in the future, feel free to reach out! Please note that using Rufus for the upgrade does not require changing boot settings, and we perform the upgrade within the same Windows environment without restarting.

The "keep files and folders etc." was not highlighted. I downloaded the correct ENGLISH version and double checked it. This is on a laptop which was purchased from a business used. It was factory reset before it was sold. It has windows 10 pro installed. Is there something else that would prevent the "keep files and folders" from being able to select?

Thank you for your comment! To better assist you, could you please answer the following questions? 1. Is your device compatible with Windows 11, or is it an unsupported device? 2. What version of Windows 10 Pro is currently installed on your device? To check the version of Windows 10, please refer to this guide: [What Version of Windows 10 Do I Have](kzbin.info/www/bejne/nWTSXnyQYtehea8). Once I have this information, I’ll be able to guide you more accurately. Thanks!

@cnatt In the registry I had to change the en-GB value to en-US. Then (after going back to Win 10) I again downloaded Win 11 and this time I was able to 'save files/folders, apps'. Then, the install went great! All of HP's apps work along with all the key functions. I must say though it was a brain twister for me, a lot of searching on how to modify the registry and change the default UI language from GB to US. Even though the language was selected as en-US (as a fallback in the registry) en-GB value had to be modified to en-US. With the first upgrade to Win 11 (without saving files, apps etc.) I was forced, because of the "language" issue to select only 'save files' or do a clean install. While Win 11 did work as expected, certain keyboard functions did not, such as increasing/decreasing screen brightness keys. also, some of HP's drivers and software would not install from the HP support website (errors). My OCD couldn't accept that lol.

@cnatt This is a used HP elitebook running win 10 pro. The issue was with en-GB being in the registry key with en-US being a "fallback" language. Although english US was set as the default language, this registry key prevented the Win 11 upgrade from being able to select "keep all files, folders apps etc. With that, I was only able to select either 'keep files' or, do clean install. By selecting to keep files, and doing the upgrade, I lost some of the key functions, such as adjusting the display brightness using the keyboard keys. Also, some HP updates through the HP support site would not install. My OCD couldn't take it. I reverted back to Win 10 and then went on a mission to figure out how to change the registry key to en-US and not en-GB. It took some searching, but finally I corrected the registry key and again downloaded Win11 and reinstalled using your guidance. This time around (with the correct registry key) I was able to select "keep everything". The laptop works great. All key functions work correctly as do all of the programs. I have done a few unsupported computer upgrades to Win 11 and so far they have all worked fine. This one was the exception. Your method was the easiest to use. I missed your reply about the cpu being the only unsupported component. Does it make much difference? Or, should the registry change be made for only the cpu check? I'm assuming to do that correctly the computer should be reverted back to Win 10, registry changes made, then reinstall Win11?
@cnattАй бұрын
Thank you for sharing your experience and the detailed explanation-it’s great to hear that you were able to resolve the registry issue and successfully upgrade to Windows 11 with everything working perfectly! The answer to your previous question can be found in the link below: kzbin.info/www/bejne/aKKwaYaZYp6fZ9U&lc=UgzgoefijVXtOGe2dLF4AaABAg.ABxjuoBX69MAByq6dRB7NF There’s no need to revert back to Windows 10 unless there are other issues requiring a clean slate. As long as your current setup is functioning well and you’ve already resolved the en-GB/en-US language issue, this process should work for future upgrades as well. Let me know if you encounter any issues or need further clarification! I'm glad the tutorial was helpful for you. 😊

@cnatt Is there a way to defeat the 10 day limit for returning to windows 10?
@stevene5194Ай бұрын
Unsupported installs still have limitations of some of the features, like graphic file folders. Break down and get a computer that is a 8th Gen intel or better, they are selling for cheap used.
@cnattАй бұрын
Thank you for your comment! You’re absolutely right-unsupported installs can come with limitations, as some features may not work as intended. For users who need full functionality, upgrading to a newer system like an 8th Gen Intel or better is definitely a great option, especially with affordable used ones available. However, for those who want to maximize their current hardware, this tutorial provides a way to keep their system updated. We appreciate your input!

It seems like the issue might be hardware-related rather than software-related. To check, you’ll need to boot your system using a USB drive. This will help determine whether the problem is with the hardware or the software. If you’re unable to create a bootable USB or troubleshoot the issue yourself, I recommend reaching out to a professional for assistance. They’ll be able to diagnose and resolve the issue more effectively.

Misleading title, only certain unsupported CPU's can be upgraded.
@cnattАй бұрын
Thanks for your feedback! If your CPU is unsupported, you won’t be able to install Windows 11 version 24H2 and may encounter errors during the installation process. Instead, you can download the Windows 11 version 23H2 ISO file from reliable sources like uupdump.net and use the same methods explained in the video to upgrade to version 23H2. Let me know if you need help with that!
