That was smart to do every other step so you can still use the stairs. I don’t think I would have thought of it myself.

Pro here. That work came out well but for everyone wanting to do this should know that their treads are most likely ugly structural wood like plywood or more likely OSB chip board. Ive even seem 1 1/4 mdf. I’ve personally never pulled up carpet to find one piece Pine stair treads. I only ever see those already exposed. But if your lucky enough to have similar solid treads under the carpet by all means go for it. Just be careful the first time you go down with socks on or you might descend bouncing on your but from the top to the bottom.

The stairs looks spectacular, but God help you if you have a tumble down a staircase. I had a friend who told me to carpet my stairs because I would survive a tumble a lot better. As luck would have it, I did fall down the stairs 2 weeks after the carpet had been installed. I am forever grateful for having listened to my friend.
@jenk27452 жыл бұрын
My folks did something nearly identical to this, but they found that the wood flooring by itself was super slick as a staircase so they ended up adding little runner rugs on the middle of each stair for grip. Definitely looks better than the old stained carpet but stairs have carpet on them for good reason honestly.

Exactly. People in this thread pretending this isn’t a safety hazard. We are presently working with a reputable flooring company and they won’t recommend this.

One of the main features that clinched the deal when my wife and I bought our house was the beautiful, 1-year old, REAL hardwood in the main floor. The entire main floor has this flooring, all with no thresholds between rooms, no rooms that are 1/2" higher than others, or any of the usual ailments, just oceans of beautiful, smooth, hardwood surface!! However, the upstairs, the basement, and all the stairs are carpeted, and I really don't see myself changing that!! A side note, I was a Paramedic almost 20 years ago, and based on experience, I firmly believe that falls down carpeted stairs, whether by an adult, or a child, are much more survivable than falling down un-carpeted stairs. The stairs in this house look just like mine- that super-steep, battleship stair angle, and shallow tread you find in older houses, and, I definitely think carpet is safer on those. I'm glad she likes her upgrade though!! ✌️✌️✌️
