hey pc builder, im looking to buy a i5 12600k with an rtx 2070 super, aswell with a z690 motherboard, is that a good cpu and gpu combo for 1080p competitive settings in most games?
@-darkangelic-2 жыл бұрын
I have an 11700k + 3090 + 32GB 3600. I’m good for now. Not impressed with 4090 enough to upgrade. Will wait for independent tests + RDNA3 reviews. My wife has an older 3600XT + RX580 and could use an upgrade. I’m liking the 5600X + 6650XT combo, as she has a 1440p monitor and her B450 board is still running strong.

I don't know what you mean by "dummies" because I personally have a headache after this video and I'm 500x more confused than I was before even starting to watch it... so the right title should be "PC upgrading for savy users - the compact version" for whom all this info actually means something and is helpful. For the rest of us mortals, this is overwhelming at best and borderline mental breakdown at worst XD Not everyone is a gamer you know... some of us are graphic designers and just want to update our tech to work more comfortably.

05:30 I would add, uninstall old drivers if you switch between Nvidia and Amd. The best software for that is DDU. Run pc in Safe mode, start DDU uninstall drivers and shotdown. Turn off PSU, hold few sec power button to draw electricity. Replace GPU, start PC.

One tip you should add to your cpu cooler removal. Run the pc first for 15-20 mins just at idle, this will ensure the cooler comes off with ultimate ease. I ripped a cpu out of socket just trying to pull the cooler, the pc hadn't been used in days. Expensive mistake.

Went from my old rx 580 4gb to a 6600 xt. Seen a little boost but not a ton, though double the vram is nice. Finally upgrading my trusty old 1400 to a 5700x that should be here today. Maybe that will show the difference between the old GPU and the new one a little more. I'm going to be putting the old cpu and gpu back into the pre-built they came in for my SO. The old b350 mobo in the pre-built may be bad (I reused every other component besides psu, case and ram) so that will give me the excuse to go from b450 to b550 on my new setup and throw the b450 in the old one, which may also help the new 6600 xt marginally with pci 4.0. I do need a new SSD for the old system that only ever had a hard drive and both systems could use more storage in general. Lastly im not sure if my current 2x8 3200 cl14 ram should get another set for 32gb for the new system or if I should just get a whole new kit at a higher speed and throw the 3200 in the old system that came with 1x8 (not sure of speed) instead of doubling up on both systems.

Avoiding OEM pre-builds is wise if you intend to upgrade over time. At one time they had a huge cost advantage and I bought one with Vista as it was certified for Linux. It meant the hardware ran pretty reliably with WHQL, especially after SP1. Generally I rather install Windows myself as OEMs ship so much crapware and nagware that it drives me crazy.

Great video! Any beginner or intermediate builder should review this video when upgrading their systems. The only caveat I would make is if anyone wants to buy a 4070 series or higher NVIDIA graphics card would be to purchase an ATX 3.0 spec power supply with the appropriate wattage necessary for CPU and GPU combined max output. Seems there can be a fire risk(!?!) if using an old school ATX 2.0 spec PS. Cheers!

Great Video!! I am getting ready to do my first build towards the end of the year. My Dell 8300, Intel i7-2600, 12GB and R9 380 are finally going to get put to rest. I was able to transplant my Dell system into newer Cooler Master case and upgrade my CPU cooler earlier this year. I am continually saving up for deals on BLACK FRIDAY and will be looking for CPU (Ryson 5 or 7), motherboard (B550), RAM (16GB), and (M.2 1 TB) hard drive. The GPU will have to wait for round 2 of the savings plan but I am hoping for a hand me down 1060 or 1660 in the meantime. I am excited to finally see how FarCry 6 and CyberPunk 2077 actually are supposed to run in 2023, and yes, they do run on my current system. :) Thanks for all your videos and keep them coming!!

1. Don't mix and match RAM kits (using 2 identical 2 stick kits is ok to get 4 sticks) so get rid of that wayward stick. I'd be concerned that 3 sticks died as that is VERY unusual and points to either user error (way too much voltage manually applied in bios) or an issue with the motherboard itself. That gigabyte case is terrible for airflow, I'd either remove some of the glass panels if possible or swap it out. All the fans in the world won't suck air through glass. If the mobo is ok, I'd go Ryzen 5600 for $150 and also upgrade the GPU.

Hi Jason. Definitely waiting on next Gen Ryzen to come out for my next new PC build. Going to go with all Ryzen and AMD GPU , I’m tired of all the BS coming out of Nvidia right now and it’s time to make a change. As always love you videos and you da man. 🎉

For me, any upgrades are contingent on a good 32 inch 4k oled coming to market. My 5600x with a ftw3 3070ti (rip evga) are perfectly fine for my current 1440p screen setup. IFF a good oled comes to market... I'll do what I need to get max frames on 4k and immerse myself in HDR gloriousness, lol.

Have the 6c 6 th 9600k (2020 build) 3060 32gb ram. I found gaming performance close between Linux and Fresh 10 21H2, think the later had more raid fps dips when the affix went off. 1440p render scale Linux found I was able to do world boss good fps, but would say raiding/m+ were where I noticed having to put settings down (render scale). Am technically above recommended specs but those specs listed are for 720p on the game site, coffee lake/newer 6 cores. It has been 2 years since last build was done after test realm to be ready for prepatch and now it is 2 years later. I helped my friend with his 5800X build a short while after and he is very happy cpu-wise with the performance but had to carry over his RX580 when GPU shortage happened. The UI overhaul has my current rig running better on the beta version of the new expansion coming November 28th. Have 2 builds with EVO212 but messing with that cooler is annoying. A lot of guides seem to have 6-8 cores minimum where I should have the next upgrade.

My current parts: Intel i5 8600k EVGA GTX 1070 16GB DDR4 RAM 550w PSU I am going to upgrade my CPU first to an AMD Ryzen 5900x. I have switched to Linux to get used to it while my steam deck was shipping however I plan on staying on linux as I didn't like windows to begin with and a very tiny amount of games I own won't run under proton. I have an Elgato HD60s and I refuse to replace something that doesn't need upgrading so I plan on using the 4/12 cores to run a windows VM and use that for recording my Pokemon gameplay. I still don't see the need to upgrade my GPU ASAP yet because my GTX 1070 runs games at Native 1440p and the very rare occasions I need to use FSR perfectly fine. The only compelling reason I have to upgrade my GPU is for Raytracing as I don't care for competitive games like cod warzone and will only play csgo to mess around with one of my friends. If you have any recommendations for my GPU upgrade which will most likely be a few months into next year, let me know. I am keeping an eye on AMD as the 40 series RTX cards from Nvidia don't entice me. I am also struggling on deciding on the motherboard. I don't want to spend more than I need to.

Guys I need help, I’m very new to pc things. I just recently bought a pre built pc but is it fine if I just install more ram to make it better?
@juicy1758 Жыл бұрын
it depends, how much ram do you have currently?
@PCBuilderChannel Жыл бұрын
Depends on the prebuilt and on what you are looking to improve.
@Numbnut4444 Жыл бұрын
@@juicy1758 It only has one stick of ram and since I’m new to this stuff I really don’t know how much it is

My current rig is an AMD R5 5600 on a ROG Strix B550-F, Corsair 16GB ( 2x8 ) 3200 cl16, and an Asus Dual Radeon RX 6400. I'm hoping to catch a " black friday " deal on a Radeon RX 6600 - 6700 XT as an upgrade.
