Thank you for this video. I have the janome 2050, it looks like yours but with no flower detailing on the machine. I managed to lose my manual and could not figure out how to get the stitches in red, or what the red part on the dial was for. Now I know. I am trying to figure out what the best way to do zig zag stitch to finish of seams. I have just started to sew my first garment and I cannot seem to get a good zig zag stitch going over the edge. It seems to be pulling the fabric and folding it over slightly, which I suppose is not a terrible thing as it will stop it from fraying but it does not look like the stitches I see on other videos. However, if I try to do a zig zag stitch on the fabric the same slight folding occurs. Other videos seem to feature digital machines and they have better control of the height and width of the zig zag. T x
@SoozInTheShed2 жыл бұрын
A lot of machinists use a different machine for those zig zagged edge, it’s called an over locker. I wonder if this is what you have been seeing. But for a zigzag to stop fraying I usually set the stitch to the widest, and the length to the shortest. Try the closest to C on one dial and between 1-2 on the second dial. Try on scrap before committing.
@TartantazCreates2 жыл бұрын
@@SoozInTheShed nope it is not an overlocker Ive been watching them use. It is an electronic sewing machine, with the ability to change both the height and the width of the zig zag stitch. Thanks for repsonding though, I appreciate that. I have tried every variation of the dials on scrap fabric, including different tensions lol but I will do your suggestion again and be done with it lol I guess It is all trial and error really at the end of the day and I am sure I will learn more as I do more. I suspect my zig zag stitches are probably meant to look like they do for my machine. T x
@SoozInTheShed2 жыл бұрын
@@TartantazCreates Yes, some machines just have a basic allowance of width and length. The more you pad for a machine the more capabilities it has. If you’re just wanting to stop a fray just go over it a few times.

Hi great video, Can you have a metal bobbin in the case (the one with holes in it) or does it have to be plastic?

Plastic are generally better with cheaper machines as the metal can wear the components down quicker…. But they should fit. I’d avoid those ones that come in the multipacks from budget supermarkets though.
