Well this video makes the point perfectly. Not only for the BD2 but other pedals as well, it’s important to learn every pedal’s capabilities as a lot of guitarist (me included) at times just find a setting and stick with it. The BD2 is not a one tick pony it’s important to learn the full palette of its capabilities otherwise we are doing ourselves a disservice. Ask yourselves this have you ever bought a pedal sold it then gone and bought it again? Stupid I know but it’s something I’ve done and I don’t think I’m the only one.

I use a BD-2 as a base rhythm overdrive with the gain between 10 & 2 o'clock depending on the song. For solos I run a Tube Screamer into it with the level all the way up & gain all the way down. They work great together this way for me. LP humbuckers BTW.

Great video! I use the Blues Driver as a boost into edge of break-up or slightly overdriven amps. Into a Marshall JTM45 or alike its inherent bass drop is great to simulate the tighter front end of a '69 Plexi and such. I've managed to tweak an EQ-pedal so it sounded very close to the BD but found it did lack the slight compression of the BD. My favourite boost pedal!

Excellent informative video and great playing, thank you! I love my Blues Driver. An incredible versatile pedal. In regard to the the conventional view that a Tube Screamer is better for guitars with humbuckers and the Blues Driver better for single coils, I have found the opposite to be true. My Strat sounded so thin and lackluster when played clean, but once I got an Ibanez TS9 Tube Screamer (level dimed and gain on zero), it fattened up the tone immeasurably and provided a volume boost as well. I felt like I achieved tonal Nirvana. For anyone who might be interested, a good example of the tone I was able to achieve with the Strat through the TS is my guitar instrumental cover of "Since I Fell for You," (Fender Player Plus Strat and Fender Super Champ X2 with Ragin' Cajun Speaker), which is posted on my channel.

Thank you for one of the best tutorials on pedals that I've seen. I've played drums all my life, my first instrument. I need a knee replacement, but after 45 years of drumming it's nice to just sit down and play the guitar! My second instrument is guitar. Both are self taught. I've played mainly acoustic all my life, but recently bought a Fender Telecaster Custom Shop 60 with a Vox AC15 valve amp. I've had a Boss pedal board since the early 90's with all 90's pedals. Boss chorus, Boss digital delay, Boss compression / sustain, and Boss heavy metal pedal. I've recently added the 50th anniversary Boss DS-1. I was listening to the Blues Driver and I was wondering if this would add to the DS-1? Just those two pedals on there own with a little reverb and slight delay sound like a good combination to me! Thanks again for an amazing tutorial man. Subscribed! :) 🤘🏼

Usually, I keep mine as an always on pedal. I don't have a master volume on my amp so depending on how loud I need my amp determines how dirty my amp gets. So, I'll vary the gain on the pedal, 11 o'clock max if my amp is pretty clean and then all the way down if my amp's volume is pretty loud and overdriven. This pedal also cuts a little bass in my setup which works well with my amp and in the mix. Don't be afraid of a pedal that cuts bass. In a mix it sounds better to cut bass if you have a bassist.

In this video, does your Z-Amp pedal come before or after the blues driver?
@JeffStarr9 ай бұрын
The Dr. Z pedal comes after the blues driver. The Z pedal is actually a boost trigger for the amp. It turns on an EQ bypass and as a result pushes a harder signal in to the preamp. The “pedal” is actually just a box with a button and a light in it. All the circuitry happens in the amp.

@mrcards1693 жыл бұрын
@@JeffStarr great thanks
@3rdStoreyChemist2 жыл бұрын
@@mrcards169 All distortion/fuzz/overdrive are essentially preamps*, so when you add gain you are amplifying the signal as that is actually what gain refers - the amount of amplification applied to the signal - so yes it will get louder as you apply gain. What you are doing with all these pedals is amplifying the signal beyond what they can handle, aka 'headroom' and as a result they clip the signal as the headroom has been exceeded. *For example, a pedal often described as a 'preamp' like the Boss MT2 is no more a preamp than a Fuzz Face or a Tubescreamer.
